Poetry Month: Week 3

Welcome and thank you for being part of Warrior English for National Poetry Month.

We are in Week Three, so make sure you stop by Week One for instructions and to make your first poetry post if you haven't already.

Remember the instructions! If you've forgotten, go back to Week One and read them again.

Sister Jackson's Poem:

The world spins at the same rate
For everyone out of the gate.
The same hours and minutes,
For each day--something we can trust.

Why can't the warmth continue
Why can't the smiles light anew

How the days do linger as they fly.

  1. We all are stronger when we work together, we are blessed with mothers and fathers. We make our own choices here and there, and sometimes life isn't always fair, but we strive to do our best for the Lord, and he blesses us with a great reward. Christ atoned for all of our sins every last bit, he never said it would be easy he only said it would be worth it.

  3. My Italian Sonnet Poem: (Hopefully I didn't butcher it!)

    The rain falls here,
    the rain falls there,
    the rain falls everywhere!
    That rain isn't a tear,
    that it shall fall here,
    for a wonderful moment,
during a storm full of torment,
    The rain shall fall near.

    The rain has now stopped,
    how sad for me,
    The rain must start again.
    The rain must be mopped!
    too slippery for thee!
It shall rain every now and then.

    None protected us
    And still we remained undiscovered.
    Invasion comes.
    Bombs, then Fear.
No one is coming to make us stronger.
    We are in chains,
    Chained with a thousand feelings.
    Power is terrible.
    We suffer so terribly,

    How do I see thee?
In the sun shine each day
In the grass in the trees that I play
    How do I see thee?

    How do I love thee?
    In quiet pondering peace
Or when our laughter did not cease How do I love thee?

How can we be together forever?
How may I treat you in the best way? How can I love the even more?

In the Celestial glory never to sever
By kindly being by my side each and every day
By following Him our love will soar!

  8. Can you guess who I am talking about?

How do I love you? Let me tell the ways,
I love you more than Summer breezes that purge the air of heat.
I love you more than the songs of birds that make my ears feel sweet,
Your company means more to me than a million Broadway plays.
Without you near I feel the fear of future times and days,
The presence that you bring with you is far from a mere treat.
Your love for me shines brightly so that darkness can’t compete,
I try to stay worthy so that your spirit with me stays.

When I am down your comfort lifts me up,
And when I serve your praise is my reward,
When you are gone I’m lost and feeling shattered,
My memories with you are filling in my cup,
Your tender hugs are priceless, more than I could afford,
In my worst hours you care for me, a heart that’s torn and tattered.

I love thee when I'm sad.
I love thee when I'm glad.
So many emotions, I could only paraphrase.
You're always here for me throughout all our days.
I hope you know I love thee, mom and dad.
Even in the moments when I appear very mad.
You bring satisfaction overpowering my malaise.
I love thee to the moon.
I love thee to the sun.
The brightness of it all fills me with affection.
    Please don't leave too soon
Or I may have to run
Back home to feel your protection.

  11. Miss you – By Trevor Christensen

If only I could hear your voice
If I even had the choice

I’d wish upon a shooting star
Though it wouldn’t get me far

    Bidding you to come back
A piece of heart I lack

    I miss you so much
    It’s all for such

    Memories we had…
    The good and the bad

    I wish we had more…
    Times I adore

    You left us early
    For surely

    I still have pain
    But I’ll see you again

oh how I miss your presence here,
How I love you still, et me tell you.

I really appreciate that you give a real perspective on love. When you love someone, you love all of them, that love will always remain, and it will at times be accompanied with sorrow. This poem gives the feeling of all of these things. I especially enjoy how you decided to end this. I found your choice of words and the depiction it gave to be very meaningful. We are at times mimes when it comes to our ability to express our love. I just never saw it that way before! Thank you for sharing!

How am I a senior? Let me recount my days.

This is getting harder- yeah the struggle is real
I use to not understand- and you may judge
In this state I feel unable to budge
Its like I am being pulled around- dragging my heal

Unable to stand- I am forced to kneel
After each day is over moan and sludge
I won’t do anything with out the sufficient nudge
All emotions are muddled- I don’t know how I feel

    Though this is dumb
There will soon be a shift

I miss you in the bright blue Honda rides.
I miss the Spanish Polka you play when I cry.
I miss the completely you and me days.

I miss you in the things we always play.
I long to see your plays with your bright smile.
I need to listen to CDs with you for a while.
I miss you coming in and asking about my day.

I think of you at the temple since you're gone.
I think of you when I play and sing my songs.
I feel God's love since He knows I miss you.

I wish that I could go on and on and on,

I am not sure if I did this right but here it is. I wrote this poem for my little brother because we are always teasing each other and having fun together.

How do I bother thee, let me count the ways,
I bother thee in jumping on your bed,
I bother thee in embarrassing thee to red,
I bother thee when the sun puts down its rays,

I bother thee by confusing thee to daze,
I bother thee by saying things that "need" to be said,
I bother thee by borrowing a pencil and breaking the lead,
I bother thee by beating thee in a maze,

I will keep trying to be nice,
I wish you light instead of dark,
I am sorry for causing you pain,

If my friendship will not suffice,
Then I will repay with a trip to the ballpark,

From the beginning of time and still now,
No thing could I love more than I love thou.
    When with you all my worries I do shun;
Take my hand in yours and away we'll run,
The flowers and birds from their sleep we'll rouse.
I love thee with my whole heart, mind and soul,
    With the entirety of my mind span;

    Italian Sonnet

    They scream and yell “Accept!”
    Others lie and prowl,
    While they snarl and growl,
What do I do while I feel so inept,

When all the truth is hid and kept,
    While they stare and scowl,
Their words smell fake and foul,
Then under the table we are swept,

We will no longer be held silent,
    The dam will be broken,
    Let the river rage,

We’ll find power in the trident,
    All truth will be spoken,
While being written on a new page.

I look and see and stand all awed
Then walk in wonder how nothing flawed
Not animals within or ground beneath
Whether a cared for garden or weathered heath
My God my God He is my God!
So I hold strong to the iron rod
He carries me like a fervent sheath

He loves each and every one of us dearly
He shows us his divine mercy
    To all with none excluded
Like a shepherd He seeks us sincerely
In a world so full of adversity
I try my best to stand undiluted

  33. Flames flicker as they do their dance,
the Box-step, some break-down, the waltz, and such.
Always constant in their moving stance,
there to welcome your loving touch.

They're not harmful, they just want water,
To help cool down their fiery step.
If you don't, their rage becomes hotter,
that you would dare have water be kept.

So they raise in magnitude to draw your attention,
and project their bright glare as they continue their course.
And once the buckets bring remuneration,
then they hiss a sweet savory, free from remorse.

  34. The rain starts pouring down the window pane
Each drop, soothing to the ears
A fast car splashes its neighboring objects in it's lane
Puddles and puddles filled with nature's tears
Cloudy skies with it's thundering clap
It's sounds retreats me to my bed
It's winds howling awaking from it's nap
But comfort, I found, with words that my friends said

    1. Beautiful expression! Just make sure you use the correct form of 'its' next time. You're showing possession, so the contraction form of 'it is' is not what you need.

  35. BO poetry F451

    Young and Beautiful,
    like dandelions,
    she would lie watching,
    dawn in the morning.

    waiting carefully in light,
    a miracle laid now,
    give long thought,
    of the look that fell,
    upon breaking.

    He isn't very stinky.
    He loves sleeping all day
and at night he likes to play!

  37. I tighten my grip on the rock
Fingers covered in sweat and chalk
    Climbing high toward the sky
I trust my life to a rope hanging at my side
I look out to admire the view
Taking it in before the climb is through
The higher I climb the more peaceful I feel
When I'm up on the rock my worries aren't real
