  1. My Protector Poem

My sleepy dragon lays on his side
    A mossy green leather hide
My sleepy dragon thunders from inside
Where gems and rubies are kept to hide

My sleek sandy serpent winds and twists
She'll snip and bite or engulf quite whole
My sleek serpent, un-still, she waits
Guarding a lair of ancient treasure

    My darting cheetah strikes quickly
With a flash of lightning on padded paws
My darting cheetah, tears stain her face
As she leaps gracefully on, place to place

My gentle unicorn grazes amongst her fields Laughing through shrubbery and over growth My gentle unicorn carries me through
Her tender kept forests; gold, green, and blue

My Dragon is the surrounding mountain range
My Serpent is the sandy desert dunes
My Cheetah is the sharp thunderclap storms My Unicorn is the blooming garden groves

    Now this is my protector:
Nature herself, who is grown and cared for by:
My Protector, my Father, my loving
    God, himself

    7. Caleigh this reminds me of my poem last year where I also compared the earth to a dragon! But I loved how you took it farther! As I was reading I was trying to guess what the animals represented, it was quite intriguing! And then at the end you totally tied in the importance of nature and the spiritual aspect of it! SO great!

    Computers, Computers
they are like a faithful bro
Until they get a headache, and oh no,
    they're your mortal foe.
Reload the page, refresh your browser,
strive to awaken the sleepy drowser
    Try as you might,
    It'll take a fight.
    Then you see,
    the bars of three
up in the corner of the screen
    and your friend's back
    nice and clean.

    Picture fear,
    Picture me,
    Picture me looking at fear,
Such a thing cannot be pictured!

for I have given it a stare long enough for my well-being.

  4. The Long Empty Road

Ode to the long empty road
    Streching far
    and craftily sewn
looming trees strech on either side
    threatening to pierce
    the open sky
    stuffed with rolling clouds
    and birds in flight
    creating a scene
    that crowds the sight.

    And still the road
    continues to stretch
    up a hill
    and back again
    always moving
    yet never leaving
    no end
    no beginning.

    Don't you ever give up
    Don't you ever give in
    It's okay to fall
    Just get back up again
Though the road will get rough
    You're surrounded by friends
    If you're feeling like quitting
    Just reach for their hands

I love this poem! It really stood out to me! I think this goes really well with the scripture James 2:26, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." We forget the massive ability that we have to change our lives. Hank smith said, "Future you does not exist. You are future you" We forget that our future is now. I think you captured that principle so well in your poem! Your word choice and imagery were perfect for your message. Well done!

Enjoys altering my words to his delight,
I mean to say see ya,
    He replaces it with salmon,
I try to write how's life,
And he sneaks in a word like headache!

One last time before I break,

    Happiness is the feeling…
    The feeling that you get,
When so caught up in laughter,
    You forget the reason after

    Happiness is the feeling…
    The feeling that you get,
When the sunrays kiss your skin,
And the fresh air makes you grin

    Happiness is the feeling…

When embraced in a hug so tight,
    It’s quite the delight

one book turns into a library,
I have been hypnotized by them,
This is only a box with paper and some ink, but it means so much more.

The descriptive writing in this poem really impressed me. A very clear image came to my mind's eye.

    Joy/Reality Poem

    THE FLOWER
    Every morning I unfold
And show my color and share my beauty
    Always blooming strong and bold.

The sun is my light, my source, my strength.
    I am in good ground
That helps me to grow in length.

But then come the days of torrential rain and gloom.
It beats me and bends me and my life seems to droop.
I am near lying on the ground as if lying in a tomb.

But great is my joy when the clouds break and the Light shines!
I straighten and stretch to fully feel it's warmth.
It's glorious and wonderful and oh! so Divine!!

    Unspoken Comfort

She sits there on the rock in complete meditation and thought.
She sighs into the wind and feels that she gave all as she fought.
Like a painted picture she was so still, yet the emotion was alive.
As I stared I wondered, what was in her head that made her continue to strive.
Almost as if her very sigh from the wind was carried therein
I heard the voice from the child within.

    I can’t become what I am not.
You use to be whatever you thought.

My life is continuous with no action.
Don’t let your imagination be only a fraction.

I feel weight from all the work and its always the same.
Life was always more fun when you made it a game.

I miss my mother and all her comfort.
You are now the mommy to help all the hurt.

How can I just put on a smile.
All you have to do is fake for a while.

I am an adult- I don’t have time.
If you don’t cherish each moment, it would be a crime.

I can not have my head in a cloud.
That is not what has become your shroud.

    Then what do I do?
Pray to God- he will help you through.
That was what mom use to do for you.

A relaxed expression came over her face as her head raised.
Despite all she had been through she didn’t seem fazed.
I watched above proud of the woman she had become.
As her mother, that is what I would have done.

Blackout poem from Jane Eyre (Pg 370)

I woke empty and was desolate,
    Abandoned,
    Dark,
    Lonely,
    Hopeless.
    Athirst for drink,
    Famished- never to be fed.

    Dream now,

    Go,

Press my brilliant conviction of reality to me.
    I do not lie pining
    In this ever peculiar,
    Withered
    Life.

I build a house of doubt.
    Devote yourself to me,
    your lonely companion,
    To cease melancholy.

I wish to be buoyed up,
    Hold
    Me
    Tight.

    1. This poem is really heartfelt and deep. I love how you exemplify the principle of knowing why and not just what. It is one thing to know the Savior died for you but it is a completely different thing to know who He is and why He did what he did. I love the heart you put into this one, keep it up!

    If just for a moment
I could lift up your chin,
    Dry your tears,
    And stop the world.
    Just for a moment.

    To show you the temple,
    Built upon the flames
    That once held it down.
To show you a child waking,
    From months of being trapped
In the slumber of a coma.
To show you a wife embracing
    Her returning war hero husband
    After nights of bad news,
    Tears, and worry.

To show you the beauty after trial.
To show you life after death.
To show you light overcoming darkness.

    So don't you think-
    Even for a moment,
    That it all ends here,
    When His hands
    Were nailed to the cross,
    And He rose again.

    Monster in the dark

It was a dark and stormy night
The thunder and lightning gave me a fright
    Then I heard a noise
    Its eyes glimmered like turquoise
I walked with all my might
Oh did my nails I did bite
    I had lack of sight
However, I was ready for a fight
It scratched the door with its claws
    I ran through the halls
I opened the door with all my might
I could not believe what was in sight
    It was just a cat!
Then I lay down on my bed flat

    Spring is to come.
The spring will lay a blanket of beauty across the earth
    Mother Earth will be warm,
    Until the next season come.
    The sound of children's laughter,
As it carries across the sky.
    The earth chuckles in return,
    Glad for print and summer.
