Welcome and thank you for being part of Warrior English for National Poetry Month.
Instructions:
Post one poem of your original work each week. Anything we have worked on in class for the week is eligible, but remember that it must be polished. Check for spelling, punctuation, as well as refining from the draft work done in class, and be sure that your work is in poetry form with lines and stanzas--not paragraphs.
After you post your poem, reply on at least THREE different poems.
Identify any literary devices that are used within the poems that you reply to along with appreciative and connective commentary.
Each week, please search out poems from people you haven't already replied to and at the very least vary your replies from only your current close friends.
Any DES who are doing this at a later date, do the poetry posts as if you were on the LIVE track and make comments as assigned.

That was a really good one. I like it! You are really good with poems.

That was really good. It makes a lot of sense, unlike my Twelfth Night blackout poem. It flows together and has a rhythm. Great job.
DeleteThat was really good for a black out poem. I like the rhythm and how you got it to kind of rhyme.
DeleteYou just summed up Twelfth Night with your poem. I love your poem.
DeleteI enjoyed Twelfth Night less than all of the others. But this poem was truly beautiful! Great job, Ainsley!

DeleteTrudging ore’ a sandy space,
ReplyDeleteUnderneath a sheet of stars,
Nothing bought could ‘er replace,
Natural magic hid’ in Scars.
A rock of solitary stone,
Plain and simple from without,
Then is cut and partly blown,
And shows the glitt’ring gems within.
Tattered leather shields the pages,
Crinkled, weathered, torn within,
Seen as nothing after ages,
But do not stop before begin.
True beauty lies INSIDE our eyes,
Beneath the stone,
Above the clouds,
If only you will look for it.
This is so true! We do not see the true beauty on the outside. Great writing!
DeleteSo creative! I also loved the "ab ab" rhyming scheme!
DeleteAirplane – By Trevor Christensen
ReplyDeleteEarly wake
Body quake
Getting ready
Feet are steady
Grab your bags
Prepare for lags
Shoes in boxes, jackets as well
Scanning items, far as I can tell
Walking up, I see the plane
Excitement! Fear! I cannot tame
Getting on, I see my seat
Waiting… Waiting… I hear a beat
Sound of jet engines starting to roar
Shaking is the airplane floor
Instantly, I’m pushed back
Pressure, speed, it does not lack
Butterflies in my tummy
The feeling I get is kind of crummy
Up! Up! There we go!
Land and city for below
Views, the mind cannot describe
Good feelings, the perfect vibe
I feel the same way! You described it all so well! Great job bro.*Thumbs up* :)

ReplyDeleteThe railway winds around the turns,
My heart for this experience yearns,
The large, engine makes a wondrous sound,
While the wheels and axle go round and round.
I wish to sit on the soft, red seat,
To watch the trees fly by, and dangle my feet,
I wish to see a white-haired man in blue,
Who gathers our tickets and talks to us too!
Oh how I wish for these wonderful sights,
I say to myself on this beautiful night.
I loved how you used imagery, I could picture everything in your poem!

having take it losing the light,i can now see i didn't make his light a priority. so why should i try to get his light back ? he has assured me he will always be there but i always end up not being so loyal to him, a heart can only take so much before it starts to decline but his heart is pure it never declines no one . How did everything happen so fast, why do i always end up falling to the side i hate ,why do i always listen to the father of liars even when i know he is deceiving me trying to make me miserable. its time i lay down my guard to fully accept the one who has always been there and has forgiven me over and over again if i can count the times hes said i am forgiven its more than the drops in the ocean. its doesn't matter how broken your heart is he will make it a pure diamond(Jesus).
ReplyDeleteYour message is wonderful. Make sure you do proper punctuation and capitalization. Always capitalize 'I' when it stands alone to mean yourself. And for poetry, you must write it out in lines and stanzas--not paragraphs.
DeleteHere is my 18 word poem
ReplyDeleteThousands of miles away,
Youre face is still a blur for me,

The wild waves slammed into the rocks, as the girl stared from the docks,
ReplyDeletethe sound is fierce and almost penetrating, as her eyes and ears are fixed on concentrating.
Her eyes open wide, to the sound of footsteps behind.
She turned and saw her younger brother standing there, shivering from the cold and wet air.
He stood there with tears dripping down his little face, she took him in her arms where he was placed.
She held him for the longest time, and told him that he was fine.
His fingers were icicles and his toes were numb, she knew at any moment his time would come.
The ocean waves did cease along with her brother who was now at peace.
This tells me so many stories. Beautiful.
DeleteRed Rudd
DeleteWow! This is awesome. You painted a picture of the setting but also of the emotion going on in the story. My favorite part is when the "...waves cease along with her brother who was now at peace." That is such a beautiful moment. It's as if the ocean understands what just happened and they are paying their respects to the dead. Nice work!!

But, it erases all the frowns that you have given that month.
Maybe sorrow has snatched you, with its rope
But, having an eternal perspective gives you greater hope.
That is amazing. I agree with you--eternal perspective does make any situation better. Thank you for sharing.

DeleteFound words from page 75 of Journey to the Fringe:
ReplyDeleteA giant sphere,
Hanging from a theoretical string
Somewhere in the universe.
A glittering bead,
Sitting on a dainty chain
Resting on my neck.
Soil, water, fire, wind—
All make up that huge, big ball
Crafted by heavenly Hands.
Rubies, diamonds, sapphires, emeralds—
Each on a face of that small, little bead
Crafted by a miners’ hands.
A gift from Mother Earth
To her children of the surface,
Her reflection in the jewels.

ReplyDeleteInspired by words from Journey to the Fringe, pg. 48
He studied carefully,
Endlessly,
The icy face before him.
He wondered who this person was,
His brow a furrowed fringe.
A shadow fell
Across his eyes,
He leaned closer to the mirror,
His face no longer calm, composed.
He wiped the glass,
The face grew clearer.
Then suddenly he understood
His being, his countenance-
On the surface of his reflection,
In the corner of his glance.
He bowed his head,
Then raised his face,
He smiled a tiny grin.
He'd found himself right in his eyes,
He straitened his stance,
He lifted his chin.
Wow. I love this one. Especially that he sees himself truly and "He straitened his stance" and "Lifted his chin." So good!!!

ReplyDeleteIf one could see the face of Fate
He would have known him all along.
A birth, a life,
One's death, one's strife,
Are marked upon his countenance.
If one could see the hand of Fate
His eyes would widely be opened.
A moment in time,
To serve or to crime,
His hand would be there always.
If one could hear the step of Fate
He would be dawned at his arrival.
Regrets would ensue,
Before a pale hue,
Would claim and take his existence.
But if one could know the Love of Fate
all trifles would be endured.
With patience in mind,
and words truly kind,
The world would be much brighter.

I connect with this more than anything else I have ever read! It is like you managed to pierce my soul. I think you were wise in your choice of repetition for this topic. It gives the sense of procrastination mixed with urgency. "No longer can I snooze" really applies to us in all aspects of our life. We can not let ourselves be asleep to what is going on around us. We must arise and shine forth. We can't ignore the alarms that warn us in out lives. We have to be diligent. So.....yeah..... I liked it....
lol this is funny i cant wake up at my alarm, it goes off forever until my brother or sister comes and turns it off and i never wake up. my mom doesnt wake me up until she has to say Sadie, its time for english.

ReplyDeleteI look outside and I see the beautiful night sky and in that beautiful sky is the star.
And I draw them in my notebook using my own blue and pink awesome pen.
And on this awesome pen is a huge blue and white star shaped star.
And where did I get this pen I got it from the store that is where I got my pen.
Man that ham was like spam it was good even know I’ve never tasted that good ham.
Man those delicious tasting skittles were sour and to brighten it up I found a flower.
And that flower is going to look really good with that with that tender tasting ham.
Man that ham smelt like a rose witch is a kind of beautiful awesome red flower.
