ReplyDeleteSomething that had always gotten me was why we needed to learn in this life. Like, what was the point in going to school if when we got to heaven, we would learn the truth of everything and the details while we were there. Then a thought came to me that answered it. "List any famous millionaire outside of Hollywood that has a 1st grade education."
We are given the opportunity to learn so that we can obtain knowledge and know how to work while on this earth. Without school, we would be more susceptible to deceits and lies that would bring us into committing horrible sins. Education also helps us to teach others like what Br. DeGraff has been saying. We don't want to be the ones on the sidelines but the ones playing on the offensive. There are already too few of people who are preparing themselves to play the game. We need to understand the importance of gaining a good education so that we can divide asunder all the cunning traps of the evil one.
I totally agree Caleb! Love the analogy. :)

ReplyDeleteSo I was reading my scriptures in Alma 5 this morning, and I came across this verse.
It reads, "And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of hear, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so know?" I really liked that verse because it explains perfectly the difference between having a testimony and being truly converted. For example, you may gain a testimony of the church when you're baptized, but you will never gain a full conversion unless you retain and remember what you felt when you were baptized. All worthy 8 year old's can get baptized, but not everyone of them will stay in the church.
In order to retain the testimony we gained so long ago, we must make our testimony stronger by doing what the lord has commanded until we truly gain a conversion.
Bowen, thy name is TRUTH! :)

ReplyDeleteOne thing that I love to do in my recreation time; is to sing around the house. One of my favorite things to do! About a year ago, I asked my mom if I could take voice lessons she told me that I was too young to take voice lessons because last time she had checked… I was. But then we checked with my mom’s old teacher, (Trica Swanson,) and apparently, I was the perfect age to start! I’ve been taking lessons for close to a year now, I love my teacher! I also love that I can go to lessons and just do singing for almost an hour! Singing…. I want to be a vocal teacher when I grow up. I think that would be a fun job! Except, it wouldn’t be much of a job since I would be doing what I love. Singing is AWESOME!
There's my Slice, hope you enjoyed it! :)

Delete-This slice reminds me of the joy of childhood dreams. I had many dreams as a child. Many of those dreams were illogical, and many were perfectly sound. As a teenager, I sometimes feel to shy and prideful to show people what my childhood dreams were even though I still enjoy those dreams. But the people, like yourself, who can make those childhood dreams a reality are my role models. I wish to have your courage and one day I hope I will.

For me it's the best. Well, that's probably because of the school I go to. Go Liahona Warriors! The reason why I have been expecting spring break is because I need a break from work. I feel like I have to much I need to do. I have school work, like five merit three merit badges four scouts, I have scout camp-out planning to do. I just feel loaded. The break will give me some time to get organized. Not that I won't have anything I have to do. My mom will most likely make me do yard work, and I have to write an English paper. Oh well. ADD is my bestest friend that is not a human. ADD is defined as Attention Deficit Disorder. Basically, I literally cannot stay in one seat for longer than 20 minutes without getting distracted 30 times. It happened a LOT at church. So much so that the bishop told me and my family (all of us are ADD) that we had to stay seated and that we couldn't sit in the front rows because we were a distraction. He said it was like watching a game of whack a mole where nobody hit the moles.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to control this ADD for years. I would like to report on my progress. Nope. Nope. Nope.
I have failed miserably.
Lets go order a pizza :) and then later we can walk to Canada (maple syrup for our pancakes eh?)
Lol Jordan that's really funny. You remind me of one of my guy friends, he has ADD and anytime we have to pay attention to something he is always doing something to distract me. I always end up laughing and end up getting us both in trouble. I sit there laughing my head off trying very hard to control my laughter while he sits there and talks about how much he wants to fix the girls hair that is in front of us, because one of her curls is out of place. Usually it ends with him grabbing her hair and than her screaming and saying "what are you doing?"

ReplyDeleteThe sound of the metronome are never ending as I sit at the piano playing the second keyboard for the footloose musical. I sit there practicing the same songs over and over again trying to speed up my tempo.
An hour later I am still playing, freaking out that I only have a month left and still have 100 pages to play. I still have to get my tempo to 160 clicks per measure. I want to scream in frustration but I sit calmly counting and tapping my foot to the beat of the metronome. ReplyDeleteA few days ago I went to this piano thing called a master class. It’s where a concert pianist or someone like that comes and gives you a lesson for about 30-40 minutes. I played a song for him and then he showed me what I could work on and complimented me on what I was doing right. It was really good to see a different view on the piece I had been working on and listen to his insight on how to fix certain issues. One thing he told me to do was try and feel the music more. Sometimes I have a problem of following the music almost too well. I have the technique, timing and dynamics down perfectly but that sometimes blocks me from putting my own feel into the music. As musicians, we’re supposed to feel and connect to the music so we can better convey it’s meaning to the audience. The last few days I have gotten better at trying to put my thoughts and feelings into the music more and I can already see it making a change for the better in how I play.
I have those master classes to Nicole. They seem to help me when I practice with the person teaching me, but than I forget what I was told by the next day.

Yesterday, we heard this song on the radio. It stuck in my head, like songs usually do. I really think it's super cool that Michael Jackson, the author of "Bad" and "Thriller," wrote something like that. It's interesting that no matter who you are, girl, boy, adult, kid, LDS, or no religion at all, you can recognize your purpose in life is to make the world a better place. The only way to do that is to change yourself. So change! With the small neighborhood I call home and the bark of passing dogs with the smile of neighbors as I go, what more could you want I wonder in a world fast pace and yet so slow.
There is more to life than big extraordinary things like birthdays and vacation days, there are moments I see the world on my bike that show me life is worth living beyond the big things.

What Fablehaven is it????
I love that series, and have been reading it over and over again once I realized the first book wasn't boring like I thought.
It was book four, then I finished it and now I'm on book two.
DeleteOnce upon a time, a couple of years after the kind mother and father of four children found out that the new addition to their family was a redhead, the sweet little girl grew. And as she grew, so did her personality and character. She was still a redhead, and she was sweet but only when she wasn't at home. Older people would constantly flock around the little redheaded girl.
ReplyDelete"Oh, what a sweet little child."
"She's absolutely perfect."
"She's just so cute!"
"Look at that gorgeous hair."
"I wish I had hair like that."
"Is your hair a wig so that we can switch hair?"
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
To comments such as the last one, the little redheaded, and only at home, sweet girl would just put on her best smile and say.....
"No."
Author's note: I really did have old people ask me if my hair was a wig and if they could have it. Everyone wants to be a ginger. ;)
Erin B P3 DE
DeleteI love gingers. Once, we had two different gingers in my seminary class, and they ended up being in two different teams that we were allowed to choose the name for. I don't remember our name, but the other one was called "The Ginga Ninjas." It was epic.
I stare at the finished result as I sit up, my spine sore from the extended period of curvature. They began as John and Pocahontas, and then turned into Avariela and Terrence, then Elena and Kae'yan. But ... that doesn't seem right any longer. I lean forward and select a red pencil. Outlining the embracing couple in a faint line aura of poppy red, I smile, satisfied. No longer Disney's, no longer mine, these are strong characters. I'm alone in my room; unafraid of the blank, perpetually surprised stare of my over-large teddy-bear, I whisper, "I will write your story ... Rose." The name fits the girl. Running my eyes over her lover, I see the strong shoulders of a hard worker, the rough shadow of beard that I added, the slightly shaggy hair. "The Rose and the Gardener." I murmur. "I'm sure you have an intriguing one."
ReplyDeleteThe faint threads begin to spin in my mind, a short story slowly being woven. A vague smile forms on my mouth. Good. I've been wanting the material for a short story for a long time.
I enjoy drawing, and all my notebooks are full of decorations and doodles that I added in between writing down stuff. Some is bizarre, some is absurd, some is happy, or whimsical or longing or fierce or loving or colorful. It's fun to rifle through the random sheaves of papers stuffed into unexpected places in my rooms and find old doodles. I doubt I'll ever be a professional artist, but I'm happy with the doodling skills I've developed over the years. It's helpful when I want to write notes ( thank-you notes and such) when I go baby-sitting and can no longer cart children around energetically in piggy-back rides and when I want to record my ideas of a character. I spend a deal of time on certain doodles - up to hours, some days. I

The next minute I look out my window, I see a crazy BLIZZARD of snow!! Ginormous bunches of snow flakes tumble down from the sky and are blown around by the whipping wind outside. I am just amazed at how cool nature is. My hometown has what I call "Light-switch Weather." By light-switch, I mean that the weather turns totally different in a matter of a few seconds, like a light-switch, i guess. I mean, it could be totally hot and sunny, then the next day, there's snow on the ground! Okay, maybe not THAT dramatic, but still, it's pretty close! :)

This summer, I would like to go to Camp Woodruff -a really awesome boyscout camp in Georgia. I went last year and had blast! We went white water rafting, swimming in the lake, zip lining, repelling, hiking, archery, etc...But I don't think I can go because my family is moving to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I asked my mom if I could fly on an airplane back to Florida and she said "probably not" because it would cost a lot of money. Hopefully, the scouts in Cuba will do something fun. It won't be the same, but I will try to stay positive.
ReplyDeleteI rode my bike to soccer practice and there was not that many people were not there so while we waited we shot on goal. After a wile and no one came we just started and we got to play game since there was not enough people there. After soccer practice I stayed after with my coach with his other team.
ReplyDeleteI love doing the slice of life, even though I am catching up right now and no one is reading my slices which is fine. It so cool to write down what has happened in the days, or even to remember some awesome memories. I also love writing on other peoples posts and saying nice things that also uplifts people. All of this typing for fun and being graded for it, it's just awesome.

ReplyDeleteThis week is my spring break I'll be writing about what we will be doing. We're going down to L. A. to visit our uncle. Our cousins from Utah are also coming.
Today, we woke up early and toured L. A. by car. Our uncle did an excellent job as a tour guide. We drove around the city, seeing many sites like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the City Hall, and attractions on Hollywood Boulevard. We also toured outside of the residential area and went to a place in Hollywood Hills by the classic Hollywood sign. Intermittently, we would get out of the car a walk around to see other sights. By the end of the day, I was so tired that I didn't want to go to bed because that would require moving my body!

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things to do in my spare time is read. Books are just one of my favorite things on the planet. The way the characters and the storyline comes to life. With every word you read you get more entangled in the story and less attached to reality. I find it amazing that something as simple as words on a page can completely transport you to a different world.
