Slice of Life: DAY 19
Sister Jackson's Slice:
Writing is my friend. With a pen in my hand and something to write on, we connect. My mind has ideas, but when I spend time putting the words together in strings of meaning, I understand more of what I want, more of what I know, and I like myself further than I ever thought possible. Writing shows me how kind and thoughtful I am. Writing gives me purpose when I am so full of ideas that I can hardly contain myself. Writing never lies; it just tells me what I know or even reveals what I wasn't sure about. Writing makes me happy.

I woke up at 6 this morning to work out. I'm curled up in a ball under my blankets. 6 is too early for me. When u do highschool swim team I have to get up at 4! I think I will work out with my dad around 8ish. Plus my sister is home from college and her friend is over and I don't want to wake them up because, they are sleeping by the work out room.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like true commitment to me!

ReplyDeleteMy dearest,
It’s been to long since we’ve been able to spend some real quality time together. Every time we start to reconnect, I get whisked away by the noise and duties that I am expected to do. I know that the distance that now separates us is all my fault. But things are going to be different now. I am taking a leave of absence from my duties to spend more time with you. It will be great to truly be together again. While I am with you, I will think of walking on beaches bathed in the light of a pink and orange sunset, of running away from zombies, flying over mountains and seas and beautiful valleys, and sometimes I’ll think of nothing at all and just be oblivious as I bask in your presence. I’m coming my darling sleep. I am coming.
Yours with all the love in the world,
Red
Haha, Red I absolutely loved reading this! So creative and just so you. I feel the same way about my own darling, sleep. We've just been so separated lately. :)
DeleteThat is so cute. Yeah, I love sleep.
DeleteI'm still trying to figure out what sleep is. Does it even exist?
Delete😂😂😂 Yes! Red! At first I thought you had a mysterious someone until your last line. Your wording is on point and I absolutely loved it!
DeleteOh my gosh this is the best! Love the scenes you painted.
DeleteThis is perfect! I love sleep too :) Thanks for sharing!
DeleteToday my youth group is having a Temple trip. What a wonderful blessing that our Savior has given us, here, on earth. By going to the Temple you receive special blessings. I also recently read a talk, from General Conference, about the four tools that we can use in our everyday lives. "Scripture study, prayer, family home evening, and attending the Temple."
ReplyDeleteDude, I love the temple. I love the feeling of peace and quiet with you want in.
DeleteThe Temple is so amazing! No doubt the best way to spend your day.

Patience overwhelms me. I pace in front of the oven, the room steadily growing hot. When would it be done? Then I smelled it- yeasty and fresh- the smell of baking bread fills the house. I open the oven as my waited timer goes off. Golden brown loaves smile up at me. I lightly press the tops. Firm, yet bouncy. Perfect. I pull the small loaves out, one at a time. Even with a hot pad, I feel the heat. I roll each loaf -right out of the oven warm- into paper towels so the can neatly go into a brown paper sack to deliver and sell. With four in my hand, I hope the aroma of perfect bread will tempt customers.
ReplyDeleteYou've got my mouth watering Julie! I love homemade bread!!!
DeleteI love how you are so descriptive in this Julie! I absolutely love fresh homemade bread. The smell the taste it all just so yummy!
DeleteThere is no seminary next week. Normally, Liahona's break dates don't correctly align with those of the schools here, but this time, spring break falls on the same dates in both circles. Also, the seminary teachers are going to be out of town, so seminary is cancelled for the week after spring break as well. Hello, sleep! Perhaps the perpetual dark circles under my eyes have finally met their match.
ReplyDelete-Ainsley McFarland, Period 4, DE
Two weeks of sleep? That sounds like the most amzing thing ever! Don't get me wrong, I love seminary but I also love sleep.
DeleteIf someone asked you right now who you are what would you tell them? would you even know what to say? would you tell them about a made up person cause you don't like yourself? would you tell them exactly who you are(the good and bad) or would you only tell the things that you like.
ReplyDeleteTake a long good look at your life, is it something you would be proud to tell someone? are you living a double life? If you don't know who you are, figure it out. If you don't like who you are change it. You have so much power. Be who you want to be so next time someone asks you who you are you can stand up tall and tell them exactly who you are without bending the truth or not knowing who you are.
If you have no clue where to start, remember you are a child of god, and either male or female and figure out what you like to do. Life is to short to pretend you are someone you are not. You'll be missing out on a beautiful life god gave you!

I love the feeling of millions of creative ideas swarming my mind. It makes me feel like I’m being productive even when I’m not doing anything! I can sit on a couch for half an hour just thinking. I can spend ages staring at a sheet of paper and thinking about the beautiful things I can draw/ write on it. The thing is... “It’s easier said then done.” It’s so hard to get the idea from my head to my hand without the end result being totally butchered from my original idea. In my mind I have already finished my book, in my mind I am a flawless artist, but that isn’t so in real life. I wish that I could create things easier. I wish my hand was steadier, and that I never got writers block, but that isn’t so. For now I will practice these things and share my ideas and talents to glorify my Father in Heaven and bless others as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing! You did a good job of explaining it. Nice slice!

DeleteThis is amazing! It is really hard to take all the wonderful ideas in your mind and put them into paper. I love your optimism, keep up the good work! :)
Last night I babysat some kids from my ward. The youngest girl kept asking me why the babysitter hadn’t come yet. I guess before I came she was told the babysitter was coming but once I got there she told her that a friend (me) was there to play with her, I thought that was funny. We played soccer and picked lots and lots of wildflowers that was growing in their backyard. I learned how to unstick a very stuck zipper and watched Disney movies with them until their parents were home. Overall it was a pretty awesome night.

ReplyDeleteA fresh bowl of steaming oatmeal, doused in milk. Freshly cut apples, for a little bit of crunch, topped with the sprinkle of cinnamon. Clink! Spoon and bowl colliding in effort to scoop up the warm, chewy substance. Mmmm! Spoon gliding into mouth, filling it with warmth and goodness. A slight scratch is heard with the outgoing of the spoon, as it briefly knocks against the teeth. The sound of chewing, only heard by the consumer, nevertheless, continues on. With the swallowing of such a delightful substance, comes a letting go of a deep breath, as the consumer takes in the flavor and texture. The process is repeated until, a scrape of the bowl is made in effort to collect every last bit. At last, comes a final 'clink', a final 'Mmmm', a final 'scratch', a final 'breath', only to be left with an empty bowl. . . Slight bit of sadness brought from having an empty bowl. A slow hand, picking the bowl up, leading it to the sink. With a rinse of water and soap, the bowl and spoon are placed in the dishwater. A flash back of happy thoughts, of such a warm, delicious, flavorful, treat, fills the mind and what a delightful experience it was. And thus ends our story for today!
Fantastic! A wonderful description used on something so simple as eating oatmeal. You did an excellent job putting the combination of your thoughts and feelings into words, and did it in such a way as for me to feel like I myself am partaking of a bowl of oatmeal right now. This is a Superb Slice Isabelle!

ReplyDeleteI waded in the warm sun that leaked through the tall windows. I lounged in the salty substance sticking to my skin.
We splashed each other and the salt and chlorine water stung our eyes. We dove into and swirled the water around.
They talked while I was the shark surrounding them- pinching them.
Swimming in the pool and in my foam pit. Two different yet so similar swimming experiences.
This is pretty cool to read! I kind of agree with you that they are similar but I think they are also very different! They're both blue in your case though!

ReplyDeleteThe unfortunate thing about eating too much candy or junk food is that it tastes good when you're eating it, but then later you feel sick. As I was sitting trying to figure out what to write for my slice I realized that I was finally starting to recover from the stomach ache I've had since sitting down. I guess this is what I deserve though, for going to two events today and not eating very well.
Ugh, I know right! Why hasn't the world figured out a better way to make food that tastes like the junk food you like but still has the nutritional value of good food, I that makes any sense.

ReplyDeleteTraveling! Okay y'all, let me tell ya something. I love traveling! My whole life my family has been all about traveling. Though our travels most often only take us to California and Idaho I love it! I love playing at our travel destinations. I love the trip down in our car and all the movie marathons we have. I love the shopping that usually follows traveling. But most of all I love getting to spend so much quality time with my family! Honestly, I am just so grateful for all the opportunities my family has to take adventures like these.
That's so cool! Traveling is one of my favorite things too. I mostly travel by myself though!
DeleteTraveling is lots of fun! I don't do it very often but when I do it's a blast. I'm totally with you on the shopping thing, I love searching for souvenirs! And spending time with family and creating memories... that's the best. :)

ReplyDeleteI artistically swept the eyeliner across his eye, turning it up into a beautiful winged point… Kind of.
He tried to turn his head. No! I grabbed his face and scolded him, “No peaking! I’m not done.”
I made his left eye a twin to the right, perhaps a fraternal twin, but a twin none the less. After I stained his lips a faint red, I allowed him to look in the mirror. He burst out laughing. “At least you look better than Barak and Greason.” I supplied. He nodded, looking over at the wonderful jobs Caleigh and my friend Abby had done in decorating the boys. They both sported huge, messy red lipstick all around their mouths, and their ‘winged’ eyeliner sprouted out into not one, but three different points. And then we went crazy. Hawken’s beautiful face that I had carefully painted soon became the host of a pair of dark black eyebrows and a fake beard. He, in turn, turned my eyebrows into a unibrow, and gave me a nice little mustache. My eyes looked like a small white opening within a sea of black. And boy, did it take forever to wash off. We all got soap in our eyes.
My cousins came over to my house and we had so much fun. We played on the trampoline, we had random tickle attacks, I thought my cousin Charlete how to do a back bend... Well kinda. We also made German pancakes and bread together with help from my dad. Then they had to leave, it was awful we had as much fun as possible. AKA putting Collins on our eyes them walking around smiling weirdly. Then came the hugging and the bye bye's.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like so much fun. Hanging out with family is the best.

ReplyDeleteCan we just take a moment to talk about how fast time is going? It's going so fast it's a little freaky. I mean, It's almost the end of March. That is crazy. It feels like last week it was Christmas. It really makes me think, I really shouldn't take things for granted. Time is moving so fast and it won't slow down so I need to appreciate my friends and family and how much I have.

DeleteDo you ever have questions you always ask in awkward situations? You know, those conversations that go through the basic hello, how are you and then trail off into awkward silences. My question is what would you do with a million dollars? One time I got the funniest answer. I was at EFY and the kid looked at me and was sort of offended. "A million dollars really isn't that much money. My parents have five million." I was like ummmm okkkaaaayyy.... I was just trying to make conversation.
ReplyDeleteHahaha what the heck? I wonder if he has ever had a small loan of a million dollars. I would burst out laughing and question his sincerity.
DeleteHa that happens a lot. I was at my cousins wedding a little while ago and saw this girl sitting by her self. so I walked up to her and did the basic greeting and then silence. Awkward!
DeleteXD That's pretty funny! Not very often when someone says that!

ReplyDeleteSaturday morning, the day when most anticipate sleeping in, but I was up at 6, ready to serve. I checked the weather on my phone, realizing with excitement that it was, indeed, 18 degrees outside. The coldest day of the month and we were going to be outside for three hours. Some might have groaned and complained, but I was eager to do this project. We hadn’t done a service project as a ward for a while, and even though there only ended up being half a dozen youth, we still had fun. My best friend came too, and we laughed so hard. We were gathering thousands of tumbleweeds from an elderly man’s yard and burning them in a pile. Let me tell you, even though we could have been miserable, my friend and I had one of the best times.
Wow that's so cool Rebekah! I know how you feel when you wake up and you just feel prepared for the day. I was like that too when I went to Nauvoo I woke up really early ready to head to the temple.
DeleteSo today I did a scouting merit badge college, and it was fun because I was with some of my best friends. I've been doing a lot of souting recently. My favorite class I took was music. I haven't played a instrument in two years, and I thought it was great. It was a very inspirational class. I also created a centapede out of binder clips. :P
ReplyDeleteSaturday, March 19, 2016:
ReplyDeleteToday we are Albuquerque and we just passed by the scene of what seems to be an ugly accident. First, there was a lamp post fallen and shattered. Then the first car that is so slightly beat up. Next, we passed the second vehicle which was destroyed much worse than the first. Finally, we pass the third victim’s automobile that has been flipped over onto its side. The site was quite disconcerting the fact that it was on a road whose speed limit was only 35 mph. However it was still an alarming thing to pass by that made us more grateful for the safety the Lord has provided us with.
ReplyDeleteMissionaries, I am so proud of what they do. I mean think about it while we're at home doing whatever or at school or even sleeping for that matter. The missionaries are either up early studying scriptures or out knocking on doors all day long. They work so hard to convert others to the church and I am so thankful for them. I know all around the world some missionaries end up being mocked and having things thrown at them and it can be a scary thing. Luckily none of my brothers went through that but it does happen and I feel really bad for them. But despite all of that I know Heavenly Father's always there for the missionaries watching over them and keeping them safe. I have heard so many amazing stories of people serving in such crazy areas and still end up having miracles happen in their lives. So when I think about the missionaries serving where I live me and my family try to do all we can for them because we know how hard they work. We try to feed them as much as possible but also my sister and I give them nice little notes to help them get through the hard times along with some treats. My parents do go out with them to teach too. So if you guys get the chance to meet your sister or elder missionary be sure to thank them for all they do. They really deserve it, that's how they convert others to the church through teaching them about the gospel. Plus be sure to tell a friend about meeting with the missionaries I'm sure they'd love teaching anyone who's interested!

Can I just say Amen? Is that permitted? Because you said it all and you said it so well! I guess I just want to say amen and thank you. Even though you are not where my sister was serving a appreciate people who take the time to show love to the missionaries.
Saturday, Mar 19, 2016 was my soccer game against someone from another school. My team, Millard, played a team from Emery. We played at Emery’s soccer field at 9:00 and players were supposed to be there at 8:30 so I ended up waking up at 5:00 A.M! Because of a penalty kick Emery beat us 2-1. All though we lost, for our first game I think we played really well. In my opinion they won simply because they got more sleep (: JK

ReplyDeleteAt 8 o'clock on a Friday night, my mother told me that I was assigned to speak at a baptism the following day. With all I could muster, I was able to create an appropriate talk, and presented it at the baptism. I asked those getting baptized three simple questions. First, what is the importance of baptism; second, why are you getting baptized; and third, once you are baptized, is that the end of your investigating process, or the time to build your testimony? The first two are self-explanatory, but the last one is that which pertains uniquely to Guam. The majority of those baptized come to church the first couple of months, and then become inactive for who knows how long. They think being baptized is the end, and think the joy they had experienced from baptism was enough for them to finish their life. I told them that baptism wasn't the end, but the beginning; the beginning to a life renewed by the presence of the Holy Ghost.
I finished my little talk, turned the time over to the one presiding, and then was able to witness the baptism of those I had directed. The joy I felt for them could be compared to my own baptism, and that feeling was glorious.

The journey of trek is over, but life goes on. To go on trek we left our beds, showers, electricity, devices, and family. Coming back home we brought things with us. We brought back bruises, sunburns, stories, experience, appreciation, understanding, and new friendships. The only thing left there was how we use to be because we changed. We came home changed and ready for what is in store.

ReplyDeleteLast night, once we reached Utah, my brother and I camped in Goblin Valley. It was so flippin' cold that I didn't sleep until my brother got up for breakfast. We then entered the State Park and hiked up to 'The Goblins Lair.' I was a very interesting place to go. The rocks are all shaped sooo weirdly and are very red. I probably wouldn't ask to go again, but it was really fun while it lasted.
Time to go to girls camp! We got there a little late, but we still helped to unpack and to get settled. I frantically unpacked as I rejoined with my friends and started to chat. It was time for breakfast, and I was super hungry! We had toast and some cereal. But that filled my hunger for a 1 or 2 hours. I explored the place, found the bathrooms, the showers, and everything else. Soon, we started practicing out skit for the night, and we did a really good job! We saw other cool war cries and skits, but I think ours was the best! We finally got into the tent, and were talking for half the night, like all girls do, and we finally fell asleep. What a awesome first day!

DeletePueblo Colorado is a weird place to live. The weather changes drastically in a mater of minutes, going from 75 degree weather with clear skies in the early afternoon to snowing in the evening. Sometimes there will be a couple of inches of snow in the morning, and it will be completely melted in no time. It also gets SUPER windy here. Not your typical go-fly-a-kite wind, it's the "Holy crud there's dust devils all over the place and that huge trampoline just blew away!" kinda wind. We've even had horse barns blow over! It's hard for a lot of trees to grow, too. Most trees are bent or leaning, due to the wind constantly pushing them. Wanna play a game of Frisbee? OK, go ahead. There's a Frisbee golf area in City Park. Oh, it got stuck 20 feet up in a tree, and you were aiming low? Well, what did I say. The winds are insane. The tumble weeds get crazy, too. They take over entire play sets and end up in a pile by your fence, as tall as your fence is, and several feet wide! Good luck seeing when the dust billows up. There's clouds of it everywhere! Riding your bike isn't an option, either. You'll be pushed all over the place! It gets so hot in the summer, you'd think we have dry winters and springs. Not the case. There have been sever Flash Floods in the past decade. Planning on moving here? No real need to stop and look around here, just a freezing desert of heat! Confused? Don't even try figuring it out. We're still confused, too!
ReplyDeletethats almost the exact same as Pocatello Idaho exept the winds and temperatures dont change quite as fast but still fast!

Deletei love animals! Horses are amazing and snakes are cool. the only type of animals I don't like are the creepy crawly bugs and spiders. BLAH!!! I have 3 cats the oldest Thomas who is 13 and has lived with me since I was 3 so we are the best friends in the world. the next oldest is Fobio we don't know how old he is he's at least 8 cause he kinda moved into our garage when we moved here and we have been here for 8 and 1/2 years. the last one and the youngest cat is Vinney (Fobio's son) ya lets just say Fobio met the neighbor's cat the same day my mom was taking him to the vet to get spayed/neutered. yaaaaaa...... So those are all my animals and I couldn't ask for friendlier cats they are so friendly, Fobio used to hate it when we picked him up but now he loves any attention.
ReplyDeleteThe other day I decided to go on a run, which is very unlike me because I hate running. I've been trying to run everyday so that I can loose weight / gain leg strength for climbing. It's much easier to climb when you're five pounds lighter. It's hard to find time to run everyday but I'm working on it. I think it's important to do things that are hard and unenjoyable sometimes because life won't always be easy. Plus the hard things are what is going to help us improve in the long run.

Hey guys (and girls) welcome back to another story! Yay! So this story is about me when I was 9 and here are some things you should know .I live by a lake so with you knowing that lets continue with the story. So I was walking by the lake when I notice something in the water so I run into the water and pick it up because that’s what I did when I was younger. So I look in my hand and it was a LEACH! I try to pull it off and it didn’t come off! I got it off though so that’s good.
