Slice of Life: DAY 20
Sister Jackson's Slice:
The other day, I was asked when I earned my Young Women's medallion, so they could make a special plaque with everyone's names on it to hang next to where the Eagle Scout plaque hangs. It was December 2014 in case you were wondering.
I don't need further recognition though. Accomplishing something so significant after such a long time helped me recognize within myself how much I have grown and changed. I better recognize how much God loves me and how he has a plan for me because he recognizes my needs. He saw and continues to see my effort.
I couldn't ask for more recognition than that.

Happy slicing!

NO WAY... Is this happening? Really truly? I’M FIRST!!! Yaaassss. :p
ReplyDeleteSo, today is the day of the Provo City Center Temple dedication. We’re going to the 3:00 one at our stake center chapel. I’ve only been to one temple dedication and I barely remember it so I hope that I do that hanky thing right, I don’t even have one actually... That’s not good. Hopefully my mom can find the ones we used last time!
I went to the 12:00 session! Elder Oaks did so well during the Dedication prayer. He hit so many points.
DeleteI love to see the Temple.
I went at 9:00! Elder Oaks is so sweet and spiritual. We got some great speakers. Oh, and enjoy being first. It's fun. :)
DeleteHaha... I actually DID end up going to the 12:00... a little mis-communication between my dad and my siblings. XD
DeleteThat sounds so awesome! I've never been to a temple dedication but I'd love to go to one!
DeleteThat sounds so awesome! I've never been to a temple dedication but I'd love to go to one!
DeleteYesterday was my ride in my bike! It was so much fun. It was a guy that works for my dad, my friend maasen (she is a girl) and her boyfriend. Hey are all 18. Since it was my frist real ride on my bike I was kind of slow. I got up to 5th gear (my bike has 6.) we went until the trail ended. We went to a mine looking thing. It had this purple dirt/Rock stuff, if anyone could tell me when that is that would be wonderful! I got so dehydrated so next time I go riding I'm taking my camelback for sure.
ReplyDeleteHey! Did I hear something about purple?
DeleteSounds awesome! New bikes are always exciting!

ReplyDeleteAs you all know, the Provo City Center Temple was dedicated today. The miraculous story of the Tabernacle burning down, the painting of Christ, and the transformation of it turning into the 150th House of The Lord on this Earth.
These are some of the notes that I had while listening to the 12:00 session:
Always have the Temple in your sights. Keep your Covrnants and the Comandments. Do nothing that will refrain you from those blessings. There are never too many miles to travel and never too many obstacles to overcome to receive the blessings of regularly visiting the Temple.
I agree! The twelve o'clock session was the best! I started falling asleep a little bit at the end but my mom woke me up so its all good!
DeleteAt the dedication today it really made me think. We are so blessed here in Utah to have so many temples! We have 17 temples altogether! The state that comes next I'm pretty sure is California with 5 temples. Where I live here in Sandy Utah, I can see three temples! The Jordan River Temple, Salt Lake City Temple, and the Draper Temple. Utahns are so blessed!
DeleteLove this! I loved the dedication, and your notes are basically the key points of what I hear. :)
DeleteWe had a speaker today from the stake young mens presidency, who was amazing. He talked a lot about how no matter what we do in our life the lord will always love you. He has his hand reached out and all you have to do is hold on for dear life.
ReplyDeleteThis was so inspirational to me cause for the past year or so I thought the lord always looked down on me and shook his head in disappointment, but in this past week I finally realized I need to ask for his forgivness and he will forgive me, BUT he still loved me even though I hadn't asked for his forgiveness or even if I didn't reach my hand out to him. Heavenly Father loves everyone of us unconditionly. DON'T forget it!

DeleteIt's so true. Heavenly Father loves each of us so much. No matter what we do, he will always love us. I love being reminded of this truth because we often forget. Satan will try and tell you, that you've gone to far, there's no coming back but that's not true. There is always hope and you can always reach to the Savior for help and guidance. :)
Swing
ReplyDeleteIn my hands are worn ropes used to catch many careless kids. I close my eyes and jump. Air is forced out of my lungs. I lean back. Clear bright blue sky and walnut tree branches. I lean further. Upside down rock wall, chickens crawling over it. I smile. I feel weightless and free. I pump my legs further and the tips of my white sneakers brush a long nearby branch. Soon I feel like I'm flying, that I've escaped the ground, far away from gravity, from the people and life below the clouds. And suddenly I land. I need water for my parched throat and rough hands. Being on the ground feels weird and wrong. And I long to return to the faded painted swing tied to the huge walnut tree in my backyard.
Well done on your post!
DeleteThis is so beautifully put! I love swinging. It feels like magic.
DeleteYour use of imagery to explain a simple moment of being on a swing was beautiful and enticing.
DeleteToday was my niece's birthday party, she is turning two. Sadly I couldnt go to her party because I feel super sick, probably because I pulled an all nighter last night.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad, because I was really looking forward to going.
So right now, Im lying in bed watching Supernatural and feeling super tired.

Awe dang. I hate being sick! Missing out on parties is no fun either. I hope you get feeling better soon!

ReplyDeleteToday my Dad has the opportunity to speak at a fireside that was canceled a couple months ago. He is nervous because he is speaking with one other guy who is a very talented spokesmen. I think my Dad is a great speaker though, he has a good and powerful testimony to share.
What a great opportunity to let his light shine! Do you know how it went?

ReplyDeleteDo you know why so many people don’t believe in God? Because it’s easier to deny Him. It is easy to doubt Him, to blame Him, and to fall away from Him. Faith is hard, and incase you hadn’t noticed, people nowadays like everything easy. Well let me tell you something: Life isn’t meant to be easy. Yeah, that’s a hard concept, I know. But it’s true. Now accept it. If life was meant to be easy, we’d all be in the garden of Eden, but it’s not, and we’re not. Infact, life is so hard, that it’s impossible. It is impossible to live a good, full, awesome life. It is. At least, without God. It is impossible without God. Yes, it is easy to doubt Him, and faith is hard, but life is harder. But frankly, I’d take hard faith and lightened burdens with God rather than easy doubt, blissful denial, and a spanking hard life without Him any day. Always remember that.
“If Life Gets Too Hard To Stand, Kneel.”
-Gordon B. Hinckley
today I went to the Provo City Center Temple dedication at 12:00. It was my nine year old brother's first time going to a dedication and he had a hard time siting for two hours it. I remember my first time, I had the same problem, and still I hate sitting for that long. At least this time I was able to feet the spirit.

ReplyDeleteIt surprises me that there are only 10 comments today so far. I mean c'mon people is today just a lazy day. Speaking of Sunday, recently general church authorities and local church authorities have been stressing the importance of Sabbathday observance. I think this is because in our world today Sunday is viewed as a "do what ever you want" day. Our church believes that Sunday is a day our Heavenly Father has given us to get closer to him. In the New Testament, the book Mark 2 verse 27 states, "And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:". The Sabath day was not made for Heavenly Father but rather made for us to help us. We must look forward to the Sabbath Day rather than look down upon it and hope it doesn't come. Make the sabbath a delight and do Gods work! Ever looked into family history?
Haha, loved this! I totally agree! We should take advantage of this day to spend time studying the gospel and strengthening our family relationships.

ReplyDeleteI laugh, I groan, I smirk, I cry, I tease, but most importantly, I remember. My family and I watched our old family videos this evening. It was great to remember what we were like, what we did, why we did it, what we were entertained by, when exactly things happened, and missing the good old days when we didn't have half the cares we have now. I love my family. I am so grateful that in the pre-mortal life I chose to follow my Heavenly Father's plan to come to this earth and to be with my family through the good and the bad. My family is the best decision I ever made.
I love watching family videos! They're so cute especially when you see yourself as a baby.
DeleteOne day my sister was eating instant potatos and I came in with a hand full of fishy crackers. Anjolee saw them and asked for one I said yes and gave her one of the crackers. Anjolee put it in her potatos and ate it she said it was really good so I tried one she was right. Next thing I know it she sticks the fishy cracker in her potatos then on her four head. We sent pictures of it to my mom and my friend Rebekah then laughed about it for a little bit then turned on a show.

ReplyDeleteSunday, there was a beehive that gave a talk in sacrament meeting. She gave such a wonderful talk, the way she spoke and the words she said were so wise and intelligent. I wished I could get up there and say such inspiring words. She did well in explaining and teaching about her topic but what struck me the most was her testimony. It was so simple and sweet. She said that she didn't believe the church to be true, she knew it with out a doubt. I think it's so amazing how such a young person can have a testimony that strong. I love going to church each week and learning something new and inspiring about the gospel. I love Sunday's! :)
I love Beehives; they are so sweet, sincere, and willing to learn! Thanks for sharing!
DeleteIt's so interesting to see the different talents of others. You can tell when someone has developed their talent. For that sweet Beehive, she had the gift of speaking, and she bore witness of Christ. For me, I don't have that gift, but I do love music and dancing, so I choose develop those and use them in a way that I can help others and bear my testimony.
DeleteI was laughing so hard my whole body shook. The prayer went on. I took in a small breath of air. I had to stay quiet. I had to stay quiet. I felt Claudia's hand on my shoulder, trying to jolt me into being spiritual. Katie's hand came form the other side. Their actions did the opposite. I was fighting back more laughter. This prayer seemed to go on for years and finally someone said AMEN. I knew my face was red with laughter. I Tried to hold it together as I at up. I caught eyes with Nate and he shook his head, laughing. I stop fighting and let out a giggle followed by a burst of laughter and eventually Katie and Claudia joined us. Maya glanced between us all, confused. Lance rolled his eyes and Riley looked at us like we were crazy. We honestly were.
ReplyDeleteWe had so many people on our class to day! The teachers quorum is already huge, but when you add the priest qourum, bishop, teacher's adviser, first counselor, varsity leader, and a young me leader. It was full to say the least; luckely we had the biggest class room. We used to have a really tiny classroom.
DeleteHhaha! That sounds like my best friend and I! Most of the time we have no idea why we're laughing... XD

ReplyDeleteThe thought process of the Sunday morning of Spring Break
Is anybody even going to be here? How many youth are going to come today? All my friends are gone out of town. Oh look! One priest! I’m glad it’s Ben, I love that kid. Okay, time for the youth choir to go up, let’s go guys! I wish that Sam and Mitchell were here, all the young men are tone deaf. That wasn’t too bad, at least we conveyed the Spirit, so that was good. None of my friends text me during break, I guess it’s because they’re so busy. I miss my friends. Maren is supposed to bear her testimony? She’s gone bishop. I hope everyone is having fun without me; at least I love the people that are here. It could be worse.

DeleteHaha, I feel this way every time a Break comes up! Everyone else gets to go places and get out of the same environment they live with every day, and I remain in my same, fixated position, continually living what would appear to be a bland life. But life is an adventure, where you get to go has little affect on the outcome of your life, only are the people you are with do you have the greatest satisfaction. If where I am is where my loved ones are, then I would stay with them rather than have a journey without them.

ReplyDeleteWe are on our way home today and are listening to one of the John Bytheway discs that my mom keeps stored in her car. I admire his way of speaking as he always has the adventurous stories but can always lead them back to connecting with the gospel. He can be funny and keep grasp of the audience’ attention while still being respectful towards the Lord. My family and I always enjoy listening to him especially on long car rides like these. When we aren’t listening to the radio we like to talk with each other and play the little road trip games. As annoying and tiring as car rides may be, I feel like it brings us closer together since we are stuck in such a small place for a time that can sometimes feel like forever.
Isabelle P. (DE) 4th Period
DeleteAh, I love John Bytheway! Your description of him is very accurate. I also have a mom that has talks and devotionals stored in our car. ;) During family road trips, we like to do similar things to your family. We listen to conference talks or audio books. We jam out to weird music that my dad likes, we talk about various things, which usually ends with us laughing. We play games or watch fun movies together. Even though you are trapped in the confinements of your car, it's nice to spend time with your family and get to know each other a little bit better. :)
Today we had an extra-long choir practice after church to prepare for our Easter songs next week. One of my favorite songs we are singing is “This is the Christ” (you should look up the Mormon Tabernacle singing it) It is about the story in the Book of Mormon when Christ appears to the Nephites after he was resurrected. It is a really beautiful song but at the end it has a really high note that a lot of the sopranos in my ward can’t hit. I’ve never had trouble hitting the note but I could never hold it out as long as our director wanted us to but this week when we sang it I hit it and held it out every time! I was so happy!
ReplyDelete4th Period DE
I adore "This is the Christ!" It's such a beautiful song with wonderful meaning. I love the feeling of when you are sitting on the top note of a powerful chord, and it's high, and you are just nailing it with breathing. It's one of my favorite feelings (see my Day 5 SOLSC post). :)
DeleteToday's lesson in Young Women gave me loads of determination. We were shown all about courage and strength, and how it is our choice to be happy in life and, relying on God, it is within our power to conquer all mountains placed in our way. First we watched the video on LDS.org about Esther, then we listened to the talk that President Uchtdorf gave in the last General Women's Broadcast. Hearing that talk again made me very excited for the upcoming broadcast!
ReplyDelete-Ainsley McFarland, period 4, DE
I love Esther. She is an amazing women and one of the few female scripture heroes. I want to be more like her.
DeleteDo you ever have a really good excuse for something but it's sorta ended up as a joke and so if you told it they'd simply laugh? Well that's what happened to me on Sunday. I was sick and had literally slept that entire day.
ReplyDeleteyes yes I have...

ReplyDeleteDuring Sacrament Meeting, a man, this being his last week in our ward, spoke to us, and one topic he talked about was God's answers to our prayers. He said that when he was younger, he wanted to see the angel Moroni, seeing as how such a thing is possible if you have faith. So for six months, he fasted every Sunday, read his scriptures an hour every day, and prayed morning, afternoon, and night asking God to show him the angel Moroni. After six months, he received his answer, no. He inquired of the Lord why he wouldn't show Moroni to him, and he said the Lord said, "Because I don't need to show you an angel for you to know I love you." Sometimes we receive answers we weren't expecting, or weren't hoping to be. We want something to go one way, but due to God and his infinite wisdom, it goes the other. We will receive our "no's" in life, some more abundant than others. But all that means is when we do receive a "yes", then our joy will be that much more immeasurable.
There is so much about life that I wasn't expecting, but I know it helps me grow. I'm thankful for your slice today. Thank you.
DeleteThanks, and you're welcome Sister Jackson.
DeleteTemples are so amazing! I went to a temple dedication this Sunday and it was so awesome. The apostles and temple president and matron and such all got to put in some of the mortar that held the corner stone in place. If I didn’t think that was cool, then they called a young boy and girl from the crowd watching, to represent the rising generation, and had them each put some mortar in the cornerstone. It was a really amazing event and it was the 115 temple to be dedicated.

You know those nights were you have two of your oldest friends who came back from out of town over for a sleep over? If yes, then I am sure you know that there was no sleep that night. We tried to whisper has we told stories and experiences. We tried to hold back laughter as we recalled old memories. We tried to tell each other that we should probably get some sleep. All of this was in vain and we didn’t go to sleep till 6:00am. That is what I like to call true friendship at work.
Who was this? I know that I wasn't there!

ReplyDeleteToday I spent a couple of hours with my dads parents. We drove up from Provo and made some dinner, talked about life, and then watched the 'Singles Ward 2.' When we fist got there they were watching my baby cousin Hendrix. He was so happy, smiley and giggly! He was so fun to play with till his mom and dad came to get him. We had a good time catching up and having fun.
Yes! another day at girls camp! It was Sunday, and we were going to start church at 10:00. So we had a earl devotional, and the rest was just talking. We then got our seats, had a mini conference, and went to out classes. We learned about the Resurrection. We then did a service project where we were cutting out templates of jean, for shoes! We were cutting the fabric for a shoe foundation. They give the shoes to little children with Jiggers. (DO NOT LOOK IT UP!!) It is where parasites get in there feet, and the only way to get it off is with something sharp. OW! We finished that, ate and then went to bed!

ReplyDeleteI really dislike soup. It's so weird and I don't like it one bit. It's basically just flavored watery stuff with chunks in it. I don't like it and it makes me sick. Utterly Gross.
Every Tuesday I get to go with a couple of my friends to do service projects. The first week, we made holiday, thank you, and birthday cards for Hospice patients. Another week, which is my favorite time, we made a few blankets that we could give to someone of our choice. My friend Will picked a fabric that kept shedding fuzz, so he couldn't do that one that day. Instead he and his mom worked on a blanket and My friend Anna and I each had one to work on. We tied knots around the edges and stretched the fabric so it wouldn't bunch up. It was the same repeating pattern in my head the whole time. Knot, knot, stretch. Knot, knot, stretch. By the time I finished, my hands were cramped, but there was a cute lap blanket laid out in front of me. It took me a while to decide who I was giving it to, but now I know I want to give it to my cousin who just had a baby girl named Kiara (pronounced like the lioness in Lion King 2). I imagine the next time I go to Utah, I'll see baby Kiara wrapped up in the little green blanket with decorated Easter eggs on it. :)
ReplyDeleteI really want to earn my eagle scout award the problem is that I am very far behind and doing it would take so much work.. ugh but I guess thats what it is all about.
ReplyDeleteI'm already running out of things to write I guess I will just write about my day today I got back from a sleepover with my bff and then I mowed half of my lawn ( it took about 1 hour to mow the half) Then I went on a 2 mile bike ride.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that this is Sadie Larsen
DeleteI mowed the lawn once... worse choice ever. The lawn mower is like twice as big as me!!!!
DeleteA few days ago I got to play guitar for the first time in ages. It was great! I forgot a lot of the songs I used to play, as it's been a few years, but it was still a lot of fun. Once school is out and I have more time I will be dedicating more time to playing guitar. It's something I love to do, I just don't always have time for it.

Howdy every one so today’s story is really funny so let’s jump right into it. Ok so last year’s scout camp and now that I think about it was the year before also so anyways. I always end up salving mysteries like last year I salved a mystery on someone got there sixty dollar knife stolen and I got the knife back and I know that there is going to be a mystery this year so it’s going to be interesting.
ReplyDeleteI’m running out of ideas for my slice of life posts… Nothing is going on in my life right now so there isn’t much to write about. I had pancakes for breakfast… TA DA! Slice of my life equals pancakes. I think that worked really well.
