Slice of Life: DAY 23
Sister Jackson's Slice:
Last night, I went to my very first caucus, and last night, I was elected to be a county delegate. The whole process was awe inspiring, and I must say that I feel proud to have such a strong sense of volunteerism as well as patriotism. Now, I just need to learn what to do with all this amazingness!

Last night I found out that When the bomb went off in brussels one of the missionaries was right next to it and all the injuries that he got we a torn ligament and a few burns. He should have been dead! I think this proves that angels are watching over us! I don't know what other proof you need! I'm so grateful for a father who is always watching out for us.
ReplyDelete-Jaedyn Lloyd (DE) 4th Period
Wow, that is amazing! What an awesome miracle! I believe, if they're doing the right thing, missionaries will always be physically and spiritually blessed.
DeleteThat's a miracle! I bet that he is so grateful that his life was spared! That is such a scary experience to have! I hope all those injured missionaries heal fast and well. :)
DeleteJust like the incident of the Cokeville miracle. Those little kids were kindred spirits and are blessed by the angels surrounding the bomb. I agree with Gabe that if we are righteous then we will be spiritually and overall physically blessed.
DeleteIsn't amazing all the evidence and experiences we have to prove the power of God? I love stories like this. And even the little things day to day are amazing, if you look hard enough you will find a million miracles each day in your own life. :)
Deletemy mom was talking about that she said that he's still in the hospital for sme reason.
DeleteI agree! The Lord protected him so that he can continue to spread the gospel.

EFY. I love it so much the first year I went it was kind of nerve racking, my friends would talk about how much fun it was and how they were able to make a lot of new friends. So I decided to go for myself, I tried making friends and it didn't seem hard to get along with the girls and guys in my group. They were all really nice, there were just a few people I didn't know that well though. But the most I enjoyed about the whole thing was the amazing spirit that was there with us, either when we would be combined with everyone listening to devotionals by the teachers or when we were doing personal scripture study. It was all so much fun, I've never felt the spirit that much in my entire life. The saddest part of it was leaving, I made so many friends and the spirit was so strong it was heart breaking. (But I am going to go again for sure when I'm a senior) EFY was so worth it!
ReplyDeleteAliya, that's so awesome that you had such a great experience! My older sisters who are now in collage both went to EFY multiple times and absolutely loved it! I'm also really excited about EFY because this year is going to be my first time going! I hope I'll have as good of experience as you did!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a lot of fun and felt the spirit many times. My two older sisters also went to EFY and loved it.
DeleteWell Gabe I hope so too! That is so cool both your sisters Brennan and Gabe went to EFY. Its so awesome!

DeleteDREAM ROLE
ReplyDeleteThese last few months I have been longing to be in the musical: Beauty and the Beast. Can you guess which character I want to play? I would LOVE to be Belle! That is my dream role! I’ve been listening to the soundtrack on YouTube, memorizing Belle’s parts,(lines and music parts,) and I watched the full musical to see what she does. I hope that I will have the opportunity to try out for that part sometime soon, (hint hint Bro. Long.) :P
Emma E. (TX) (4th Period)
DeleteOh, Elise, I feel you! There are so many roles that I think would be incredibly fun to play. Belle is definitely on that list. I hope that you get the chance to participate in Beauty and Beast. Liahona would do a great job! (I think Hawken or Gabe would have to be Gaston, and Bowen & Trev as Lumiere and Cogsworth would be hysterically funny. Then Red could be Mrs. Potts, and - oh man, this sounds like it would be a blast!)

ReplyDeleteWhere are my ideas? Everything is a blank. There is nothing coming to my mind. No thoughts flowing through my head. This is ridiculous!!! Why can't I think of anything? I just need to get this done. Oh think, think, think!! Wait, that's it! Idea!
"When You Have No Idea What to Write About, Write About Not Knowing What to Write About"
I know how you feel. I don't ever know what to write about. I have to pull some random idea from deep within my mind. It's a struggle!
DeleteHaha I know that feeling! I had it earlier today! You worded that wonderfully Red. :)
DeleteI do this all the time! I wrote a poem on it once, it was very entertaining. :)

ReplyDeleteHow I have longed for summer to come. Winter was coming to an end. There was a day of sunshine and warmth. I realized how much I have missed that. The days have been warming up, lasting for longer periods of time. I wake up on Monday morning and bam! The sky is overcast. There is no sunshine. No sky. Just dark, foreboding clouds, waiting to pour down their water on me. How I miss the sunshine and warmth. Don’t get me wrong. I love the rain and snow. But there are times when I wish they would just go away. I do hope very much that the weather will clear up soon.
I totally gotcha Nat! I love snow too but I've had more than enough this winter. I need warmth! When it snowed yesterday I was like, "WHHHYYYY?!?!?" I can't wait until things finally warm up for a good 5 months!
DeleteSame with me! I can't wait. I didn't remember how much I loved the warmth until it came back. Then all the memories came back. And then when the weather tricks you that just sucks.
DeleteI quickly hooked my two little dogs leashes onto their collars. They immediately started wiggling with excitement. They thought they were going for a walk. Little did they know it was going to be a hair cut. I led them out to the car where they eagerly jumped in. As my mom drove, I held on tight to each dog. After what seemed like an eternity that really lasted about 10 minutes, we were there. My work here is done.
ReplyDeleteI always feel so guilty taking my little toy poodle to the groomer. He looks at me with such trust. When he realizes we are at the groomers, he desperately tries to use his charms to get me to take him home. I would rather have a good-smelling dog that's mad at me than a dog that can't see through his fur that enjoys my attention. Poor pup.

ReplyDeleteThe leather seat was vastly comfortable. I could stay awake pretty well in seminary - it was afterwards that I struggled. And this comfy chair was surely an enemy tactic. I glanced through the windows, but the world slowly went black. Suddenly, music rumbled and vibrated in my ears, through the seat, resounding inside me. My heavy eyelids flew open. Allan smiled, and set his phone down. It had connected to the bluetooth setting for the car audio. His energizing music filled up the quiet, sleepy space, driving away the lingering vestiges of dozy fuzziness. My shoulders and head started dancing, followed by my arms, enjoying the song. My older brother's hands tapped the beat against the steering wheel, and as we reached our street, he gently accelerated and decelerated to the music. Dance parties in the car are so much funner than naps. I love when we can take this car and its sound system.

Thank you so much, Makenna! I'm glad that you appreciate my writing, and that I can make you smile. I love you, too!
Aw, Kyanne, thanks! That means a lot to me. I spend way too long thinking of just the right words sometimes, but I love picking the perfect descriptor. And I'm working on the book right now. I'm actually working on several. Hopefully one of them will be worth publishing at some point.

ReplyDeleteI stood in my bedroom, trying to remember where I had put the box full of all my junk. I slowly turned in circles, racking my brain. I suddenly walked over to my closet, looked inside, and picked up a small brown box. Nope, that wasn't it. I almost laughed aloud as I realized that the box I was looking for was right on my bed, in plain sight. I sifted through it's contents. Aha! I found it! the perfect screwdriver for my project.(coming soon to slices)
Caleb A, DE, P4
DeleteOh, that feeling you get when you're looking for something that is in plain sight drives me to annoyance. Sometimes- wait. . . All times I do my math, I always lose my pencil. At first I pick up the book, then I check my immediate surrounding. Then I grudgingly get up to scour the entire place trying to retrieve it, when all of a sudden, I open my book to find it was there all along.

ReplyDeleteTODAY I FINALLY GOT MY STITCHES OUTTA MY KNEE FROM HAVING SURGERY TWO WEEKS AGO! I am soooo glad to be rid of them. When the nurse cut them and pulled them out it felt really weird. Hopefully I will make a full recovery very quickly so that I can get back to life. However, now I have to go to physical therapy for 4 weeks... So that'll be fun. Maybe.
That's awesome, Holliauna! I'm so happy for you! I hope the rest of your recovery goes by extra quickly.

The Young Women decided that tonight's activity would be a daddy-daughter date type thing. Not all the YW's dads can come, and some of them share a dad, so we selected "replacement dads", which was a funny part of the planning. I texted one of the leaders on Monday to ask about the situation with refreshments, and she hadn't heard of anyone bringing anything sweet, so I am making lemon cupcakes with strawberry icing. Hopefully they'll be a success. I'm super excited for the activity!

It's a Wizard of Oz theme, and my Young women president has worked super hard on it. There is going to be an emerald city, a skit, a rainbow made out of jello, and bubbles! Looking forward to it, but first I have to go to dance, which doesn't give me time to practice the opening song that I have to play on the piano. >.<

ReplyDeleteUncle Eli lent us his 15 passenger, green shag carpeted, black, 20 foot Sprinter van. It's so roomy in here. We just stopped for Subway and I got a diesel truck to blow his horn.
We are headed to Zion National Park until Friday and I'm super excited; especially for that warm weather. Hopefully the shorts I packed will be in use.
It's about a 4 hour drive there so I brought some things to keep me productive. Such as my journal, personal progress, and a drivers Ed. Book to read. I also want to run my lines for the upcoming plays.
Also, it's way fun to stand up in this mini diesel and wobble around.

Heres the thing... I have a few rules. People follow those rules, and then everyone is happy.
1. Do not touch my hair without permission.
2. Do not steal my phone.
3. Never say the words groovy, radical, gnarly, or anything with a surfer dude/hippy accent
4. Do not lick me.....Why would anyone ever have a problem not doing this one?!
5. Most importantly, the combination of nails and chalkboards is NOT okay!!!! Don’t be cruel! This is one of my irrational problems that I can only describe as a small phobia. Honestly, just writing about it is making my fists clench.
Now, here is my point is telling you this. For some reason, the people I am closest to have this tendency to break these rules. For instance, My best friends (you know who you are) has committed each of these sins and suffered the consequences. If you know me at all, you know that I am very reasonable and happy person....I remain that way as long as we follow these simple rules. Easy...right? Well, apparently not. My sister decided to break rules number 2 and 4 at the same time! She took my phone and she LICKED it! She saw my face and immediately ran away screaming with fright. Naturally, I chase her down and sit on her until I feel satisfied with her apology. She is 21 and I am 18......why did any of this happen?
I just laughed so ridiculously hard. You made my night! I love you to pieces. I promise to try and remember these rules! (It's for my own good after all ;). )
DeleteWell... I'm guilty of committing all 5. Especially #2! I stole it, like, every day!
DeleteThat was so funny! I am guilty of all if that except #4 (i can't stand that!)
DeleteShe sighed. The chill wrapping it's arms around her. She trembled slightly but her heart was letting off heat that ebbed the chill. She wrapped the soft cloth tighter around her. Her toes aware of the cold wood below her; she pulled her legs underneath her. She tried to take it all in, all of it seemed within arms reach. She tilted her head so far back it touched the wood paneling and she gazed up at the universe. She greeted old friends and tried to count them all. Her soul at peace.
ReplyDeleteThe chill surrounding her yet not touching her. The light gray near the mountain tops darkening as it moved upwards. The stars glittered for her in that moment and she closed her eyes and breathed in the universe. She stayed that way on the cold wood, wrapped in soft cloth, watching the sky. The sounds of the night comforting in their odd way. Thunder clapping in the distance, the pitter patter of tiny feet far below her, in the darkness of the trees. The longer she looked and harder she tried to hear the more she was given. The sky growing larger; the swirls of light and darkness, that artists had tried to capture since the dawn of time, now visible. She whispered the thoughts of her heart to a world she couldn't see, yet felt close to her heart. The tears warm against the chill, as comfort enveloped her. She felt a whisp of a few words against her ear. "Go to sleep little one." The tune of a lullaby played over and over in her head. She lay there gazing for a while longer until the chill returned and she sat up. Hat slipping from her head. She stumbled to uneasy legs, toes numb from the cold. She turned in a circle once more, trying to memorize the sight and hold it close to her heart. "Go to sleep little one." She tripped over her feet and into the warmth of a dimly lit room. She closed her eyes and the stars glittered once more, just for her and everything slipped from her grasp except the lovely image and the warmth in her heart.
I'm sorry this is long. I seem to go over a lot. (Again I'm very sorry!)

ReplyDeleteI find that we often dig ourselves a little ditch, the pity ditch. We like to sit in the self pity ditch. We sit in the ditch wishing we were rich. We sit in a hole. We see the glass half empty instead of half full. We like to wallow in the self pity hole. There is a ladder in the whole, we could easily climb, but we prefer to sit in the dirt and slime. For Pete’s sake! Climb! Climb out, and over time, you’ll see the world, and you will find, that above that ditch of moping pity there lies a great and glorious city. This city is of self respect, a city without shame, where none neglect. The glass half full, now that’s correct! Live in the city, leave your hole of self pity. Look at others then yourself, but don’t compare, all that leads to is despair. If you live there for a while, you will grow to like your smile. Instead of of living in a hole so vile, you will go the extra mile. You’ll see life as a mansion instead of a garbage pile. Don’t sit in the ditch. It stinks.
Wow KyAnne that was powerful! I totally agree with everything you said! We need to learn to live in the present, be grateful for what we are given and build upon that. This would make a great monologue! I can totally hear you reciting this in my head! I love you KyAnne!
DeleteHaha! Thank you!

ReplyDeleteIn WW2, a man by the name of Doolittle went on a mission to raid Japan with bombers in response to Pearl Harbor. All the odds were against them, and even more so, their mission would only have the affect as a pinprick does on the human anatomy. Pearl Harbor was a sledgehammer, and his plan to fight back was so insignificant that little to no impression was to be made on their fleet, production, or weapons of war. But, he did so because though it would only be a pinprick, it would be one thrust "straight through their hearts." What we do may be considered insignificant, or a simple act where no visual effect is made, but something will always come out of acting with faith. A simple word of kindness or an invitation to a church activity may not seem to be that important, and yet it truly is. If Doolittle had not done so, America's fervor would not have been hightened, and Japan's courage would not have been lowered. Sometimes the smallest of acts lead to the biggest results, which is why many dramatic endings start with small beginnings.

DeleteSummer is coming up so quick!! It was super nice out today!! Even though it was still in the 50’s, haha. It felt really nice though! I opened my window and cleaned as the fresh breeze flowed through. I had a summer memories flashback. We were listening to Celine Dion and swimming in our pool, laughs and giggles being exchanged. Oh how happy we were. The summer night games, bon fires, stargazing, late nights watching movies, jumping on the trampoline, picnics, swinging on the swings, road trips, ect. It’s a bittersweet moment for me. I smile because of the memories and I remember how happy I was. But then I miss it. I would go back to my childhood in a heartbeat if I could. Things just aren’t how they were. When I was so innocent and only knew happiness, pretty much. Those were the best days of my life. Back when my brother was still alive. (For those of you that don’t know, my brother died in an ATV accident about 4 ½ years ago.) So I really miss those memories and wish I could make more. Summer was so nice back then. But I’m going to try and make this one the best I can. I can’t wait! It’s coming quick!

ReplyDeleteTonight, for mutual, was our, "New Beginnings" activity. Our theme was, "You can change the World." I was told I needed to conduct the meeting at short notice because my Laurel class president had to work. I was a bit nervous because I wasn't really sure what I was doing but it went pretty well. Our leaders gave us examples of how others in their lives have changed the world just by their simple acts of kindness. I learned, that you don't have to do something spectacular or big to change the world. You don't have to become famous to change the world. You just have to be yourself to change the world. You have an influence on others around you, you are changing people's lives by your actions and example. You are changing the world, wether you realize it or not. Keep staying awesome! You make a huge difference in this world! The world needs you, the Lord needs you, we need you! You matter, never forget that! :)

ReplyDeleteReds slice inspired me to write about writers block. Writers block is a very strange, annoying, and extremely funny Disease. Writers block has agitated, frustrated, and confused many people over the centuries and even now we see evidence of such things here on this blog. Another funny thing about writers block is that once you get writing about how you can't think of anything to write about ideas usually start popping into your brain.
My friend sent me a link and told me to go and take a quiz she made for me and to send her the score. When I was finished with it it said my score. Unfortunatly it asked if I wanted to make a quiz for my friends and I didn't want to miss that chance. I made the quiz and I sent it to her but it did take a while, I couldn't figure out how to send it so I copy and pasted it.www.quizyourfriends.com/take-quiz.php?id=&lnk& good luck!
ReplyDeleteDo you ever thing about the Alphabet? Do you ever think about how you can spell letters? I think about that stuff sometimes, it is actually really interesting! Like you would spell "f" as "eef," or "M" as "em." It makes me wonder. Maybe that is one reason our language can be so hard for other people!
ReplyDeleteI really like what you said. I sometimes think about about that and how I can just form sentences and I don't even have to think about it. It's really cool to think about.
DeleteOne of my friends calls me "shorty" because Im only 5'3" and she 5'6" so I had to make up a nickname for her and we came up with bean, for absolutely no reason we just thought it was cute, and me and my best freinds came up with some cool nicknames too, now we call each other "Mulder" and "Scully". Having friends that you can come up with cool nicknames with is so fun!
ReplyDeleteWell... 5'3" is kind off short. xD. 5'6" is just out of the short zone. At least to me. My dad is 5'3", my uncle is 5'2", and my grandma is probably 4'9. ReplyDeleteWe sat in silence. Kyla, my cousin who is 2 years younger than I, laid on her white twin bed. I lay perpendicular to her body, my legs extended up the wall. Bethany, my 13 year old sister, sat slouched in the chair by the foot of the bed. We all read, and although we weren't usually silent together, this was a nice little tradition we had built up. Every few minutes, someone would come in, or I would say something that popped into my head; we would laugh and giggle until the novelty of that event died down. We continued to sit in silence.
Very good description
DeleteWriters block... Well today my cousin came over, and we played a lot of civilization 5. We are practically done. I discovered a DE lives less then a hour away. I used to go to the same stake, but a new stake, Far West, was founded. I also meet another DE through a different website.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice having several siblings. But it's hard when the closest one to you age wise is five years apart. It's a big gap. So it's hard to see them. But I try to keep in touch.

My family and I love to play boardgames. Strategy games are our favorite but we're pretty much down for any kind of game. One of our favorites is Monopoly. I don't know why we enjoy it so much, but it's been everyone's favorite game to play as long as I can remember. The games get super intense and long, consisting of each of us doing everything in our power to destroy every other player in the game. We never actually argue over who wins but instead choose to have fun with it. It gets really crazy and sometimes we form aliances or even bribe each other for help. I remember my sister offering to do my chores if I loaned her enough money to pay her rent. It's always a fun time and I can't wait to play another monopoly game soon.
