Slice of Life: DAY 26

Sister Jackson's Slice:

Spring is here. I see it in my yard now that the snow has all melted and green things are poking their sleepy heads from out of the earth. I need to go take care of them, invite them into the world, for before long spring will have sprung and summer will be here instead.

  1. I literally have nothing to say, so let me just say i'm first, and today I am going to build a seed starter out of wood! I already cut the wood using a compound miter saw yesterday and today I'm going to get it all put together! I will probably also go to the woman's conference tonight. A boring day, but we all need boring days sometimes!

    1. Yeah, boring days are common, yet it is up to us whether we let it be boring or not. It's awesome how you are taking the initiative and building a seed starter though. To me, that sounds pretty adventurous.

Oh it's finally here!! Winter has had it's final breath over the earth. Now it's sunny and warm and springy!! I forgot how much I love the feel of grass under my bare feet, and walking outside and breathing in the fresh new air. It's glorious!! But just when you think it's hear, you wake up and find snow in your yard. UGH!!!!! Utah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Oh my goodness Red, I completely agree! Why can't spring just be 70° and sunny all the time? I've been wearing shorts and short sleeves to "help" warm weather come. It doesn't seem to be working so I'll go with plan two... Move to the Bahamas.

  3. This Easter is going to be super special. I have decided to give out notes, flowers, and a piece of chocolate to those women in my ward that I've known for a while. Thanking them for all they've done for me in my life. It did cost some money but I think it'll be so worth it. I just thought Easter should really mean something and what Christ did for us to atone for our sins that was more than anyone could ever do for us. I also decided to put this toward one of my personal progress in Good Works. I am so thankful for Easter and the unconditional love Christ had for each of us to die on the cross. May we all remember the true meaning of Easter!

  4. These days get pretty crazy. I'm almost two weeks away from going home again and right now I'm home alone. I wonder what I should do. Should I throw a party or what? I have no clue to be honest. All I know is that videogames are awesome right now. :P

  5. today I want to talk about knife's. There are all sorts of knives like machetes pocket swords katana broadswords. But if you cut yourself it is like going against the commandments and if you do this you have to repent which is like putting a band aid on the cut and it wont heal automatically but it will heal eventually.

  6. Sometimes there are days like today where I have no idea what to do with my life.
I have already read my scriptures and scrolled through Facebook, Instagram and pinterest for four hours in a row.
I would go for a run, but it just rained and its probably pretty muddy outside.
I'd bake something, but I already made brownies yesterday.
What I should be doing is catching up on homework.
But I have no motivation to do that right now.
I guess I'll get off my laptop and go find something productive to do now.

    1. Everyone has had those days Emi! I feel you! I think that once I'm okay at driving maybe if be able to just take a drive and go get snack someplace or do shopping for my mom. That happens to me and I usually then get caught up in chores or cleaning. But I really need to be motivated to memorize lines, read, study, and learn how to drive more...

I have a beautiful picture on my dresser. It's a picture of Christ looking out over a hill at sunset. I see it everyday.
I once had a bracelet that was important to me. My friends at church and seminary would take it all the time and play with it. One Sunday one of my very closest friends was messing with it and forgot to give it back. I texted her to reminded her to bring back when she could. She promised. Then, one day after seminary she asked to talk to me alone. She told me that she had accidentally lost it at a festival, and was extremely upset about losing it. Apparently she tried to find one like it on the web to replace it, but couldn't find anything. She told me she was a mess for all of that day. We were texting about all this and she asked if I would ever forgive her, and I told her that I wasn't going to let a little thing like a lost bracelet mess with our friendship. Looking back, it was just a stupid piece of jewelry. She and her mother then came to my house to give me a thank-you gift. It's the photo of Christ that I have had sitting on my dresser ever since they gave it to me almost five years ago. Every time I look at it I think of her and her family. They have done so much for my family. If this friend of mine reads this, you know I'm talking about you, so please tell your family THANK YOU for everything they have done for my family. And thanks for the beautiful picture. Love you guys!

    1. I miss you so much! You are such a great friend. You are a far better friend than I am! I love you! Thank you for always being there for me. Also, thanks for not being mad at me. ;) You demonstrated such Christlike love and forgiveness towards me, and that is why I chose the picture as a demonstration of my gratitude. I wanted you to know what I appreciated in all of that. You did more than shrug it off! You comforted me when I was a mess, and you were the one who lost something. I still hate that I do not know where that is.... and that I never found it... but you gave me peace. Thank you!

  8. Change is a critical part of life. Change helps us to learn and to grow and become better. Change can be very difficult though. It can cause heartbreak, emotional breakdown, and depression. I know I mention moving a lot, but this is a big part of my life right now, so I’m going to talk about it again. I will be moving in like 5 months and I’ve been getting quite the mood-swings. At church when I see people who I care about and love, I feel so sad, knowing that I won’t be able to see them every Sunday by September-ish. I walk around my familiar neighborhood, and drive around Sandy/Draper in which I feel so at home. Soon I will be moving to an unfamiliar town, with unfamiliar people, and an unfamiliar neighborhood. I pray that God will help me to take it well when the time comes, and I am grateful for this opportunity to meet new people and progress in life.

Change is difficult. I say that I like change, to changing things up everyone in awhile, but then when that change comes, I realize how hard it can be. I know the feeling , when you know you'll be moving and you realize you won't be able to be around the friends you've made, and the familiar surroundings will disappear. It changes your perspective on life, at least for me. You realize how lucky you are to have come in contact the people around you and you see what a difference they've made in your life! Good luck with moving! I hope when the time comes, that when you do have to move, you'll find warm and welcoming faces to greet you. Trust in the Lord's plan for you! It'll all work out! :)

  9. Today was an interesting day. We drove an hour to Anniston for the match, and at Chick-Fil-A (<3), gray steam began pouring from beneath the hood of the car, and the temperature gauge showed a sudden spike in heat. I feel very blessed that we were able to make it so close to our destination before the car trouble began, rather than being stranded on the shoulder of the interstate. We were picked up by our very gracious friends and taken to the range for the match.
After the match, our friends tailed us on the way home, watching for any signs of dissent from our rebellious car. When gray steam was seen to be flowing out of the exhaust pipe, we pulled over, and they gave us a ride home. I'm so grateful that they were willing and able to be so helpful to us!

I almost forgot to post today, my stomach dropped when I realized what time it was.

Today a family friend came to visit. We haven't seen her in 3 years and it was so much fun to catch up. She is like a big sister to me, so her little daughter is like my niece. So I got to play all day with a little four year old. We play with princesses and baby dolls. We played "kitchen" and climbed "mountains". She has such a wonderful imagination, and the last time I saw her she was just learning to walk!

I went to the Color Festival in Spanish Fork! It's up at the Kirshna Temple. The people there are so diverse, happy, excited, weird, very weird, and oh so colorful!
We went to the top of the temple and it reminded me of how pure and clean our LDS Temples are and how only people who are authorized may enter in them.
Hawken and I got separated but at the when we were reunited he had a story to tell: he had started a mosh pit with a guy. Then he went crowd surfing on top of the sea of people. And he fell flat on his face as he soared over the crowd and the sea parted as if avoiding the plague!
Overall the experience was so fun and amazing. I hope to do it again; I also hope this chalk will come out of my hair.

I was listening to a conference talk in the car, with my family and this quote by Preisdent Monson really stuck out to me, he said, "Remember that faith and doubt cannot exist in the same mind at the same time, for one will dispel the other." Listening to past conference talks is getting me really excited for General Conference, next weekend! I love hearing an receiving inspiring words from our Prophet, the twelve apostles and other general authorities! :)

How is this possible? I already stayed home from school for two weeks due to sickness, you’d think I’d be done with it by now! I felt fine, wonderful, healthy, amazing even! Then all of the sudden I have to wake up with my throat feeling as though I swallowed a bucket of sand and someone stuffed sandpaper up my nose. For Pete’s sake, can’t I go without a cold for two weeks? I just hope I’ll be able to come to school on monday.

Easter is such a joyful holiday. We celebrate Christ's atonement and resurrection. We creat and spread joy by sugary candy and chocolate eggs. To most, those two things seem completely opposite. To me, spreading joy through sugar, candy and Easter bunnies helps us, in a way, better feel and know Christ's love for us. True Easter is most often turned into a big candy and gift fest, much like Christmas, but I believe we can celebrate with candy and gifts while still turning our thoughts towards our savior.

  15. "Faith" is a poem I wrote and I want to share it with you.
    Faith
    My life was good,
    it was happy and fun,
    like nothing could stop me,
I felt like I could run.
One day all of that changed,
    my brother left our family,
    my sister left the church.
8 onths passed my brither still still gone,
    my sister anonther religion,
my brothers wife put a restraining order on mmy dad,
    my sister got tattos,
    everything isn't going well,
I haven't seen my brother in months,
    my sister with many boyfriends,
    my parents hearts are broken,
    and si is mine,
    but everything is partly fine...
    Becuase I still have faith.

not all of this is the same now. I've made contact with my brother and my sister moved in with us and broke up with all her boyfriends. So all my faith payed off.

  16. The Sea
I look out. Light emerald green water looks clear cupped in my hands. A tickling sensation runs around my toes tells me the tide is moving. I see a wave, foam crashing on top. I sprint toward it. I stumble. My parched lips are covered in salt. The wave pushes me back. I laugh. I run at them again. And again. A squawking noise attracts me. I don't believe my eyes. Almost thirty seagulls sitting on the beach in hues of white, brown and gray. I smile. I run at them, thrilling at the sight of them taking flight in all directions. My foot hits something hard. A couch shell. I pick it up. Colorful stripes on a small shiny shell sits in the palm of my hand. I put it I'm my pocket. And another. And another. And another. I hear the call to leave. I groan. As I walk back to the car, I think of the uncomfortable sensation of dry sand on me until we get to the hotel, the long car ride, the ache in my feet. Then I spot my colorful collection of shells. I hope we go back soon!

Dad galloped around the damp gravel and dirt lot, replicating Mercy’s silly little chasse. She followed behind, tickled that dad was being so silly. Dad turned on her and hopped over her, and she giggled. Soon mom was joining in on the galloping fun. My siblings and I were all laughing and watching, seeing the funny side of mom and dad was a nice treat. We were stopped at a little gas station, somewhere in Wyoming. In the large dirt lot there were two gas pumps, and a small convenience store. Nothing surrounded us except an abandoned building a few yards away, someone’s place of residence, and the mountains. Rest stops were nice, but they were even better when we were laughing together.

  21. My mom is always big on getting us new dresses for Easter. When I was little it was always the big poufy dresses and I always matched with my sisters but for the past few years we have been able to pick out our own dresses. I usually choose a flowy yellow dress because I love how they look but this year I went with a straight peach and white lacy dress which I really like, turns out I should of thought outside the box years ago. I also got a very pretty flower necklace that I really love and new shoes! I am really loving my Easter outfit!

To tune a guitar, you must have a tuner. If you try to do so by ear and feeling, you will find yourself in the wrong place. There are many things that can be used to assist this endeavor, one being the piano. Just match up the key with your string, and you should hit it spot on. Or, you can use an electronic tuner that you put onto your guitar, and as you play the instrument, see where its dials stand so you may hit the perfect key in accordance to that which you are using. Or, you can give it to a professional, and he will put it exactly where it should be. There are many methods of receiving revelation. You can look it up in the scriptures alone, praying is also good. But if you only have in interest in them and not in what the spirit is telling you, then you will find yourself that you won't quite be where you want to be, nor will you have the answer you seek. You can try all types of things, but if you don't give your heart over to someone who both understands you and knows where it is best that you be placed, then you will only find yourself at an adequate position, and a place not entirely meant for you. Let the spirit be the tuner that tunes your life in with the gospel, and all anxiety will be settled; let it take control of the chords, and you will have a beautiful melody.

I really dislike talking on the phone sometimes. Usually when I'm talking to someone I don't know or making an appointment for something. I'm even more awkward on the phone( I'm already pretty awkward in person) but on the phone it's so much worse. I don't ever know what to say so it's just awkward silence. I do like talking on the phone to people I know well though, it's fun. I'm just really awkward.

We would always celebrate Easter over 2 days when I was little. Saturday was Easter fun-day and then we would have Easter sunday. We would die eggs, have an Easter basket hunt, and do all the fun things that would be expected with this holiday. Sunday however was saved for what the celebration is really about. (Also we didn't want the Easter bunny to work on sunday!) This year we didn’t have our fun-day, but I did not mind because at this stage in my life I know what this is really about. I have an appreciation that we are reflecting on the most important act that has ever been done in our existence. When I say in our existence, I do mean before and after this life. The Savior gave everything for you, and he would do it again for just you alone. He saved us all. Remember that.
