Slice of Life: DAY 27 Happy Easter, Everyone!

Sister Jackson's Slice:

Easter. A time of year when all of Christianity rejoices in the glory of the atonement and the miracle of the resurrection. I rejoice in these things.

Without the atonement of Christ I would be a condemned soul, and the condemnation would come from myself because I would feel so hopeless in ever being able to overcome my many faults and shortcomings. Aren't we all our own worst critic? Yes. Who do we forgive first--ourselves? Never. I have learned to forgive myself better, but it is a general struggle with us humans. We want to see the best in others, but we are our own worst critics. With Jesus having suffered for all our mistakes and even our afflictions, I recognize the miracle and try to let go of guilt as I repent and work to improve myself.

Not everyone in the world celebrates Easter. Not everyone believes in Christ. But I believe and I celebrate because with Christ, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Brother, and my Friend, I can overcome all sorrow, suffering, and sin. By his loving grace, I can live forever in glory instead of guilt. I can live forever with those I love. I can be who I am intended to become.

First, please let me rejoice in saying, I am the first! Woot woot winner winner!
Now, there were a lot of talks this Easter Sunday that were full of sharing the light of the gospel. I remember the wonderful uplifting talks from last night during the General Women's Session of conference. The thing that really stood out to me last night was how Sister Marriot talked about love. She said that Love is making space in your life for someone else. To nurture, to serve and to bring them true joy. Which can be done through Christ's Attoning sacrifice. I could go on and on on this subject but this is supposed to be a slice....
I especially love how this Spring time we celebrate rebirth and mercy through the atonement. It can be seen in all places on the Earth at this special time of year. It is Spring time and the flowers are beginning to bloom, snow is melting, and the Sun is peeking out, finally!

I love the points that you touched on. I'd like to add my thoughts on how not everyone believes in Christ but that's why our Father in Heaven Abe us this gospel to share through missionary work. Through loosing ourselves in the service of others we can find ourselves in trey joy.

    3. First, congrats on being first! I know how that feels. Second, we had some awesome talks in my ward as well. All of the wives of the bishopric spoke, my mom being one of them, and that was super powerful. Lastly, my mom showed me a part (the main video) of the woman's conference and it was so amazing!

  3. Frankly, I can't figure out dish washers. I mean, can all the varying companies agree on one way to do it? Simple, one hole in door, only one detergent. No, so many different holes to put stuff in or rules like don't mix up dish soap with dish washer soap because now my hotel room's kitchen is soaked in suds and everyone is asleep!!! So how do I fix this?!?! Curse you dish washer makers!!!!!!

I totally agree with you! It would be nice to have a universal system of dishwashers, fridges, and microwaves(or any other machines for that matter). that would make things a lot easier for us humans. Good job and well written!

My dad set out to tell my youngest sister that Santa, the Easter Bunny, Leprechauns, and all those things aren't real. My parents sat her down and asked who Santa was and she replied that he brought presents to all the good kids at Christmas. They asked who the Easter Bunny was and she said that he simply brings candy and other treats for everyone... My parents decided that they would continue to let her believe because she's so innocent and naive. (or so they think...) They're just kinda done with all that stuff. They've been doing Santa and the Easter Bunny for 20 years now. I think it's about time that they fess up... HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

  5. Today at church I went to my dads class. We were talking about Easter. Last night since is was in Boise for motocross we got home at 1 am. I forgot it was Easter. I woke up to my little brother waking me up to tell me that the Easter bunny came. I pulled my blanket over my head and went to bed. Then my dad came up in my room and woke me up to tell me to get ready for church, I just pulled my blanket over my head and went back to sleep. My dad yelled from across the house that if I didn't get up I could have any treats today. I dragged out of bed and got ready and I'm very happy I went to church.

  6. Easter is one of those holidays that I didn't fully understand until this year. Christ has become the center of my life these past few months and because of that easter means a lot more to me now. I love my savior, I love what he did for me, I'm so grateful he is my brother, I'm so grateful he loved me enough to die on the cross then be raised from the dead for me. I'm am so grateful for the influence he is in my life, and most of all I am grateful for the compassion and kindness he has for us. I am grateful that we have this day to remember what he did for us. All I can say is Hallelujah, thank you for the sacrifice you made for us.

We had an Easter dinner at my grandma's house, it was really yummy and we had a fun time. On the way home it slowly became clear that we all had had way to much sugar. We were speaking very fast, yelling at one another, and jumping up and down. Needless to say it was very hard to settle down for family prayer.

After that my family all went to our stakes patriarch and I got my patriarchal blessing! It was so amazing and such a spiritual experience! I cannot wait to receive my personal copy and be able to study it! I am unable to express my feelings that I felt during this experience. I hope to be able to always remember these feelings and emotions.

Congratulations on your Patriarchal Blessing Gabe!! That is so amazing! I know how you feel when you say that you are unable to express the feeling that you had while receiving it and that you hope to remember those feelings. That is exactly how I feel about my Patriarchal Blessing. It was especially significant to me because it was the first time, I felt, that I had ever had direct revelation like that and had received such clear answers to my prayers. My Patriarchal Blessing has been such a comfort to me and I know yours will be to you.

Yesterday, I had a pretty cool experience because my mom and I got tickets to go to the General Womens Session of Conference. I live in Utah but never in my life did I see myself going to the Conference Center to attend an actual session of Conference! It was really cool to see the whole, huge room of seats fill up with people. Amazing! But the most memorable part of it for me was when the prophet and his counselors walked in. I've never seen them in real life before; they've always been on the other side of a screen for me. But I watched President Monson walk in and in that moment I had a confirmation that he is the prophet of our Church today. And I love and sustain him.

Oh, wow! That must have been the neatest experience. It's amazing how different things are in real life, rather than on a screen. You can still get the same message and even the same feeling, but you can't always get the full effect or experience in it's entirety, with out being there in person. I'm so glad you got to go and enjoy a live session of Women's Conference. There were some amazing messages, given in this session. :)

    3. I agree that it is a totally new experience to go to the actual conference center! I went once to see conference in 2012 or 2013 I think. It was so cool! And seeing the prophet in person was so amazing.

  11. our family didn't celabrate Easter today because it's supposed to be next week so thats when we're celabrating it. our cousins came over today for breakfast and then we did a egg hunt. Anj and I hid one baket of eggs for our cousins and my brother Joey hid the reast for Anj and me. there was a little kiddy pool and we had 3 eggs the same color as the inside and it wasn't blown up so we hid the eggs in the cracks of the pool. Joey didn't get to look for eggs because he knew where they all where so he hid some in our old dish washer that happened to be outside at the time and it still is.

  14. Happy Easter everyone. Today I'm pondering the crucifixion and how Jesus died for us and rises after three days. The only downer is that those missionary's got injured so we have to fast for them. usually we would fast a different day, but not this week. but back to the injured missionary's part I told my mom it was the missionary's fault that we will have to fast then my brother said it's those dang terrorists fault that we have to fast. hahaha.

  15. PASSOVER

I went to my Grandma's house for Easter Dinner last night, and She had prepared a huge Passover meal! The tables were laid with fake palm leaves and we used really cool plates and cups. At the begining of the dinner we partook of bitterherbs and dipped them in salt water, (representing Christ's tears,) red cranberry juice to represent his blood, and we ate qualsadillas for unleavened bread. After that, we had mashed potatoes, lamb, roast beef, deviled eggs etc. Then we had an egg fight outside in their backyard. It was a fun day!

  16. Easter is a time to remember Jesus. I feel like we talk a lot about how He died so we could be forgiven of our sins but a lot of times the other stuff His sacrifice allows us, gets forgotten. My favorite point to remember on Easter is that because of what He did I can be with my family forever and be sealed to my future husband someday. Without Jesus this life would be the end. I like the church video that says " Because of Him... death has no sting" I love that this isn't the end and we get to keep progressing for eternity.

I totally agree Kenzie. The point that touches me the most is the hope that we have through Christ. We have hope in a life after death. We have hope that we can be with our families forever. We have hope that we can return to live with Him forever even though we've made countless mistakes and sins. I am grateful for the hope His Atonement has given me.

  17. Happy Easter! Today I keep thinking about the talk None Were With Him by Elder Holland. Our Savior walked such a terrible, lonely journey for all of humanity, and today is the anniversary of when everything was made whole again. The tomb is empty, He is risen. Death and darkness have been conquered; His light and life, as Abinadi said, have made it so that death and darkness do not have power over us.

When a loved one dies, I have the reassuring knowledge that I will see them again. When my life is at a low point, I can take it because I know God's plan for me. When facing a swirling storm of seeming darkness and chaos, I smile and press forward, remembering who commands the storms. In the midst of affliction, I come unto Christ. When I hit rock bottom, I press forward with a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God, and of all men. After three days of sadness and pain, I look up to that see my savior, whom I thought dead, has risen once more. I have hope. "Which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being lead to glorify God." (Ether 12:4)
So many people don't have that hope. So many live without these things, this knowledge. I hope that one day I can share this knowledge with all the world.

Humility and embarrassment all mixed together as I went down and sat in my pew. I love bearing my testimony, and I have so much to say and be thankful for! Every time that I get up in sacrament meeting, it seems like it’s my first time bearing my testimony. My well-constructed thoughts are quickly forgotten, and all that I’m left with are my feelings of urgency. Not about being left without thoughts, but because I have so much I want people to know, and no words to say. I get flustered every time, realizing afterward that I was a jumbling mess of thoughts quickly spoken words. I guess I need to learn how to let the Lord put words in my mouth because without Him I am inadequate. Sometimes it’s frustrating that I’m not at that point yet, but I know that I’m supposed to learn from this stage of my testimony too.

    1. There is much I can relate to for this slice. Before, my thoughts were everywhere, and all I was concerned with was not saying anything wrong, either grammatically or principally. But through the years and strengthening, I have come to know that it is far more important that you don't say something wrong, but say something right. A message with power always is because the Spirit is the spokesman. If you do as you proposed, that being to "let the Lord put words in [your] mouth", then you will leave the pulpit with satisfaction and abundant joy.

Our teacher showed us an Easter video and afterwards had us write down more or less our testimony on the atonement and the savior. While we wrote the teacher played another video, the spirit in the room was so strong, every girl in the room was at least almost to tears if not crying. Afterwards our teacher gave us each a movie about Easter that was beautiful! I love the Easter holiday and all the traditions we have at that season and the feeling I have on Easter Sunday!

I wish I could have been there to see him rise up and live again, but maybe I was there, but not physically there. I could have been in the spirit world, looking down on the miracles he was performing, and the work he was doing, you never know, but someday we will know again!

Last night, the mission president of our Stake came to speak to us. I always knew I was going to go on a mission, and I was already at the point where nothing was going to stop me from doing so. But it does help to just be given that pat on the back concerning my decision, and that extra emphasis that helps me come to the acknowledgement that I have come to the right conclusion. He spoke concerning how when on your mission, you are going to hit the wall due to frustration, grief, or the difficulty in it that you had not perceived while not being a missionary. He also told of the many sweet blessings that come. Sure you will get slammed in the face more times than you can count, but those instances when you can just see the happiness radiating from one newly baptized is indescribable, and non-comparable to the grief you have to suffer through. I would go through life's toughest challenges if I knew someone would be watching me, and that all those I put my heart and soul into teaching would come up to me with tears in their eyes, exclaiming the newly found joy they have just received. Missions are meant to be hard because they are to strengthen you, but they also help you to know that it isn't you who are giving when you are on your mission, you are the one getting because of God's infinite love for you.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, always..... Follow your first prompting. Never put off a prompting. If something good to do pops into your mind then you can always assume that you should do it. Later you will discover it was the spirit. You will then ether be happy with or disappointed in yourself. I thought to text my friend. It was not a big deal, but it could have made a difference.
