After finishing up reading Fahrenheit 451 this week, some things have sunk in for me. Realizing so much too late is something that people do--just like Montag. Is it ever really too late though? Is there such a thing as realizing too late? In some cases, yes. However, with the love we have in our friends, family, and God surrounding us, realizing when we are in a mess is just the first step to greatness. So many thoughts are swirling in my mind that I can hardly stop enough to write it all down.

ReplyDeleteWell this is an experience. I’ve never been first to post something on the blog before. It’s nice to be first sometimes. My favorite experience when I participated in being first was at the last Shakespeare Competition. I have been on the Liahona Shakespeare team for four years. When I started in 9th grade, there were about 10 people on the entire team. Over the last few years we’ve grown to about 50 people and we’ve gotten better at what we do. It was a very sweet moment for all of us but especially the seniors when our ensemble scene took 1st place. We had finally done it. We were the David in our division but we had taken down all the Goliaths. We had defeated our foes and defied the odds. I feel so blessed to have gone on this journey with Liahona’s Shakespeare team- to have represented my school, to revel in the spirit of Shakespeare, to show my love for theater, and to have worked with and learned from my INCREDIBLE teammates. Go Warriors! Long live Shakespeare!!
wow i didn't know you were on the team for so long. congrats not he big win!!!
DeleteYas, Red! Shakespeare competition is like none other around. Winning at something so difficult as that is just a slice of the cake. It's hard to compete in, which makes it even better to win in. I've only been on the team for two years now and you have been a big role model.
DeleteI love hearing about Shakespeare competition! You guys are amazing! I'm considering joining this next year because it sounds like you guys have so much fun! :)
DeleteCongratulations! The Shakespeare team at Liahona is amazing, and your hard work doesn't go unnoticed! Awesome slice!

ReplyDeleteIn the fall our tree slowly turns red, orange, and brown, until slowly there are no leaves left on our tree but instead crowding all the space in our yard. After its sad state of no color on our little tree, when it begins to warm up and there is the hint of spring in the air our tree out of nowhere turns white with blossoms galore, which also after a while enjoy crowding the space in our yard. But slowly white turns into the summer green which provides the shade on many of our Texas afternoons. Which turns to back to an autumn brown which turns back to the bare winter where it rests from the summer duties it holds, and the cycle continues as it stands tall showing off in our front yard, growing taller a grander every year.

Its crazy to have something jus taken from you. This morning my uncle passed away. He had Liver Cancer, and I guess it was is time to go. He is 47 years old with a wife, and 5 kids. Last night I was listening to a song called 7 years old. and the lyrics are, once when I was 7 years old my momma told me go make your self some friends so you don't be lonely, one I was 7 years old. I Think you should look it up because it is a good song. The song reminds me that every one was once your age and they know how to help you when you are struggling. I know I went off track but, I know this is a sad post but don't let it get you down. Every one loves you, even if they don't know you!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. Stay strong!

DeleteHow was your day?
ReplyDeleteWell, depends who's asking. I mean, really, some days I say fine to everyone and amazing because my day was fine and amazing. But what about a hard day...
When the kid behind the counter at McDonald's asks. Ummmm NO. I mean, are you really going to unload all your troubles to a kid who's paid to be nice to you?(No offense, to those who work fast food) Or the kid who is super nice to you at school. Well, don't lie. I say something like, "Well I Don't feel so chipper, but I'll be okay." Then you find someone you really trust. Refer to J. K. Rowling, "'I'm-' For a second, Harry tried to say 'fine'- but he couldn't do it. Before he could stop himself, he was talking more that he'd talked in days..." I love Harry Potter. (Book 4, pg 331)
Okay, that quote was kinda lame, I would have gone on, but I don't want to give away anything to those reading. :)
DeleteJulie, I love reading your slices. I haven't met you but you seem like a such a happy kind girl! Thank you for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI rolled out of bed and stretched; stumbling over to quiet my alarm. I yawned and walked over to my window bench. I knelt down and offered my little morning prayer. Then took a frightful glance in the mirror. Ha, it wasn't that bad today. Got out of my pjs and got ready for the new day. Being the first awake I usually get out the cereal and bowls but not this morning. This morning is a Friday. Everyone was still sleeping until @Hawken came down the stairs. Before he could finish his breakfast the horn honked and I ran upstairs to brush teeth. I mean, I can't go anywhere without brushing. (It's now a joke in our family because I've made people late because of that habit). We rushed out and went off to our 8:00 class. Woo.
Caleigh! I love you! Your writing is fantastic! Also, it's a very good habit to brush your teeth. :) I have the same problem when I leave my house, haha.
DeleteLove your writing! And I can vouch for you Caleigh, she does indeed make everybody late because she ALWAYS has to brush her teeth. It's ridiculous.
DeleteMy aunt Nicole sent us a Flat Stanley, and my mom decided that today we'd go to the Southern Museum of Flight and take Stanley with us. The museum had a lot of really neat things, ranging from a model of the Red Baron's plane to the actual front half of a bomber that was pulled up from a lake just a few years ago. We had lots of fun, and Stanley got to sit inside one of the models, so mission accomplished.

DeleteMuseums's are awesome, the only sad thing is that they have turned from an amusement to something less visited, like parks and zoo's. Pretty soon people will lose interest, and then, just like in F451, they will shut down, and pass from the present to past. When that happens, I fear what shall take its place in the future. But anyway, it really is cool to see the 'actual front half of a bomber' because it helps to make history become more alive in our minds.
That sounds like a lot of fun Ainsley!
DeleteMy parents and I are doing a "sugar detox diet" where we cant eat any sugar or grains for three weeks. They purpose of this is too stop craving so much sugar and I guess this works because the less of something you eat the less you crave it.
ReplyDeleteThis diet has been really hard for me. Its hard to find meals that don't have any grains in it. I can't eat potatoes, bread, tortillas, cereal or rice and its hard to find meals that don't have any of those things in them.
I'm finding it hard to function without sugar. I crave it so much and when I don't have it I go crazy. I have a hard time focusing and feel irritable when I don't have it.
I realize this is why I need this so much.
I am enslaving myself in my sugar addiction and it has to stop.
I need myself to remember that this is a short term thing and it may be hard, but it will have positive consequences that will hopefully help me for the rest of my life.

ReplyDeleteWhat to write about today? Hmmm. . . Today I designated a couple hours to reading. I haven't been able to read an enjoyable book, of my choice, in awhile. It was nice to relax and step into someone else's world for a moment or two. I love the journey's and adventure's that I'm able go on and the great part is, I can stay in the comforts of my room, under my warm blanket, haha. ;) I've learned so many things by reading other people's experiences even if they are fictional characters. Reading is a great way to gain more knowledge and increase your understanding of different situations. Reading has become a wonderful joy and blessing to my life, I'm so glad our society hasn't gotten rid of the books yet. ;)

ReplyDeleteI love to sleep. It's like being dead without the commitment. I just slept off the last of the anesthesia from my knee surgery, and really want to go back to sleep to block out the pain. And sleep does help the mortal pains. Do y'all's parents say, 'Go sleep and see how you are in the morning.' when you tell them your foot hurts, or you feel sick, or whatever?
Theatre: I love Theatre. Brigham Young said, "On the stage can be accurately represented evil and its consequences, good and its rewards." I can attest that everything in this quote is true, I have personally felt that when playing the character of Neville Craven in The Secret Garden. Through Dr. Neville Craven, I was able to discover which parts of me I hated most, I learned what to do and what not to do when it comes to loss. I love Theatre, words can not describe the emotions I have the this art.
ReplyDeleteI love theater because of two reasons, the first being musicals and the second being the drama kids. I love musicals and just the music from them. Drama kids are such a great bunch of human beings. They have no fear of being who they are because, in my opinion, in pretending to be other people they have found themselves.
DeleteLast year after a soccer tournament that we were finally driving home from, we were super tired, because it was pretty late. Since it was late, most of our options for food were closed and we were all starving. We finally pulled up to a subway that said it was open for like another hour, but when we walked up to the doors, they were all locked. Now this subway was a special subway. What made it special was that it had a drive-thru, and since it had a drive thru and the doors were locked my team and I thought it would be a genius idea to go through the drive-thru to order. We stand at the drive-thru wondering why it won’t detect us, until the genius on the team, who just so happens to be the valedictorian of our high school, said it was because there was a “weight detector” that detects the weight of a car when it pulls up to the drive-thru and says we needs to jump on it to get the right weight needed to detect us. And, just like in Toy-Story, when they’re trying to get into that store, we start jumping on the “weight detector”, counting, so that we all jump at the same time, and either it finally detected us or they really have a camera because whoever was inside finally spoke on that intercom thing and told us to “come on in” and they’ll unlock the doors for us. Finally, we get in, get our sandwiches and were able to eat peacefully on the bus ride home.
ReplyDeleteHaha! This made me laugh! Imagine what someone driving by must have thought! "Look at those crazy teenagers. I wonder why they're jumping up and down next to the Subway drive-thru menu. They must be really excited for their food!" Thanks for brightening my day!
Deletewow that is so funny! The person who was working there must have been really confused to see a whole bunch of teens jumping out side of the establishment.

DeleteHello, I'm Kenzie. I'm tired. My friends tell me that when I get really tired... I act like I'm drunk. I apparently act a little loopy and talk A TON. One time I told my friend my entire life from birth until that exact moment. My dad says I'm tired in stages. I have the kinda tired stage; I act like a normal, tired person. I then find all this energy and get loopy. The next stage is that I get grumpy until finally I pass out from exahustion. Spell check just tried to edit that, to a word I'm pretty sure doesn't exist. My sister had a gender reveal party today and it was at my house. The way she showed us what gender it was is she put colored powder in a balloon and shoot it. Jeannie (my sister) put a white baby footy PJ's under the balloon then shoot the balloon and the powder got all over the footy PJ's. Steve (my brother in-law) shot the balloon and pink powder went all-over. MY SISTER IS HAVING A GIRL!!! ReplyDeleteI love friends. Today I went to my friend Abby's house. If you were to ask what I do with Abby, I wouldn't know what to tell you. There is no one specific thing I do with her, we just do random things, most of which, if ever discovered, would land us in an insane asylum. But it is very much fun. We have deep discussions and random games. It is good to have a best friend who I can be myself around. We delighted in the beautiful weather, we looked into the blue sky and names things we saw in the clouds. We jumped on her trampoline, we played with her dog. We ran through the grass barefoot. Things that would be relatively boring doing alone, like drinking water or sitting on a bed, become fun when my best friend is with me.

DeleteFood is an interesting concept. Something can be prepared a million different ways, there are a million different flavors of the same thing. Ice cream has so many flavors and on top of that you have just as many if not more toppings, and way you eat it. I bring this up cause my ward had an ice cream party, and there were so many flavors I couldn't try them all, and another table FULL of toppings!
ReplyDeleteCool, I never thought of it like that.😋
DeleteAn explosion. One second before it happened every thing was normal.
ReplyDeleteBombs have a normal fuse of ten to twenty seconds. When detonate is press the fuse lights with a magnesium powder which is highly flammable and the clock ticks. What prevents it from blowing up immediately is a thin wall of metal that separates the fuse from the gunpowder/explosive. This wall needs to withstand the heat and friction of the burning fuse, if anything hits it hard enough the bomb will prematurely explode. We need defuse the bomb so that at the correct time the right thing will happen for someone, do not shock the bomb and blow everything.

ReplyDeleteIs not water an interesting piece of substance? We have need of it every day, and yet only recognize its value when we are in need of something to quench our thirst. We sometimes forget those Africans who have to drink unfiltered water from a brook, and get ill because of the filthiness of it. Many things in life have we forgotten because we have always readily had a supply of it, even that which pertains to our spiritual self has been misplaced somewhat. The Gospel is the bread of life, with it we can live not only a simple life without the cakes and over-complicated recipes, but one full of satisfaction and our well-being.
Period 4
DeleteI was just pondering a similar topic, relating to water, and how strange it is. I mean we play in it and move our limbs so as to propel us through it. How vital it is to us and yet insignificant we treat it. I think this also relates to scripture, prayer, church attendance, etc. and how insignificant we treat them but how vital they are to all of us.
I do find it interesting that we hardly recognize something so important and so needed. I don't drink water that often except usually in the middle of the night, at all hours of the night :) But it is strange how we take something so important for granted.
DeleteYes Gabe, it is sad how those things that are vital to our existence is placed from being significant to insignificant, and Charity, the most important things are taken for granted because we don't appreciate its real value. Thanks for replying!

It calls out to me from the depths of my pocket buzzing like a bee or shouting the Final countdown ringtone. It connects the world in so many ways with its calls, texts, social media, and even applications. When I leave my phone home or I can’t bring it I feel lonely, disconnected from the virtual world maybe even bored. Phones can be a useful thing like scripture mastery apps, spreading the gospel on social media, watching conference talks. There’s always the dark side of everything, Phones can make us antisocial, make us forget how fun it is to hang out outside etc. In my life I need to balance using phone and socializing with others to achieve maximum happiness.

You put it into words! This is basically the struggle of our youth today. I wish I could express how perfect I think you worded this. You point out the pros and the cons. You brought out the problem of our over dependancy, but provided an answer. Basically I want to say, Well done!

ReplyDeleteMy best friend is 13. The same age as my younger brother. She lives in Peru and I only met her a month or so before I moved away. Yet our bond is strong and we understand each other. We talk often, telling each other our problems and talking about our days. In a time that I feel so alone, I have somebody I can turn to. I know she has problems in school and with her friends, she told me about it and I tried to help her. She wants to be homeschooled but her parents won’t agree to it. She contacts me during school sometimes, when she’s in a class she can get away with it. I enjoy these talks we have and I am glad to have a friend like her.
Today I want to talk about stickers, so lets talk about stickers. Stickers are sticky and fun you play with them and you can put them on your car then your mom gets after you and then your grounded for months anybody know what i am talking about and this is completely unrelated from my life.
ReplyDeleteXD I know what you're talking about. I used to put stickers all over my house when I was little.

Cleaning all the time. I am cleaning all the time. In a family of ADD people, we have half way finished projects all over the house that we will “get to later.” Therefore it stays out for a week or so. This does not mean that we do not clean up our house. Like I said before we are cleaning all the time. The problem is when a we never finish anything then things pile up everyday. I can’t end this poetically because I gotta go help pick up.
haha I know how you feel. I'm ADD too!
Deletethis is honestly my life because i have add as well!
DeleteI think books have minds of their own. There are so many story possibilities, and just the right words can suck you in to the characters' worlds.
ReplyDeleteThe way they describe an owl, gliding through the moonlit night, feathers fluttering in the breeze. The owl sways gently, scanning the ground and listening for its prey. A scurrying sound is carried through the wind and the owl tilts it's wings downward, ever so slightly. Spotting the source of the scurrying, the owl swoops down, twisting and winding through the trees. Locating the meal, the owl extends its talons and angles its wings to catch the air. Quickly, the owl traps the mouse in its talons and shoots upward, into the sky, flying back to the warm comfort of it's hollow in a large Oak tree.
Stories fuel imagination, giving us our own ideas to write and give our readers something so clear they can imagine and follow through the pages.
I love the Maze Runner series is my favorite book series ever but I never finished the 4th book which is the prologue because I got about half way through than lost the book.

ReplyDeleteIn 2012 I was at the orthodontist they put something sticky on my teeth, then brackets, and then a wire that is placed in the brackets. after it was dried they let me pick colors of what they called bands that went around those painful braces, at least they were colorful.
ReplyDeleteLittle sister: Tabi, who are you talking to?
ReplyDeleteMe: Ellie
Little sister: *jumps in front of me grabs my phone and goes to her room for 3 hours…*
Me: ….but she’s MY friend…
Don't you just love sisters?
Today I was able to do something I haven't done in a very long time: Sleep in. It was glorious. I slept nine and a half hours which is over double the amount of sleep I normally get. Honestly it was something I really needed as I have a lot of school on my plate right now and I was getting stressed out. I'm thankful for the little things in life like getting to spend a little extra time resting.

There are so many screaming children in my house!! I know I should be grateful for God's innocent gift and all, but MY GRACIOUS PEOPLE! These children are my nieces and will be moving out in the next week, so its kinda bitter-sweet. I'll miss the heck out of them and seeing their smiling faces as they try to distract me from school.. but at least there'll be more peace and quiet in the home. :)
ReplyDeleteSo guys a while ago I figured out how to make a forge! If you are wondering what that is it’s a thing where you heat up metal so then it turns bright red and you hit the metal to shape it into whatever you want it to become. It is so cool and all you need to make it is a blow drier, pipe , and bricks . It was so cool and I successfully didn’t burn myself.
