Sister Jackson's Slice:
I hear the songs playing in the background. I hear music in every moment of the day. Words are music. A chord. A melody. Harmony. That's something I want. Peace and harmony in every facet of my life is the goal. Goals take us places we long to be. Goals make up the words for the song we find within our hearts.

Happy slicing!

The blade of a two sided sword is sharp, but not as sharp as the word of the gosple that pierces the heart of men. We need to wield the blade of the gosple and defend our families and protect our friends from the enemies and adversary, and to teach them with it so they can help others. Put on the armor of God and fight for what it right.

So we are doing "Romeo and Juliet" here at Liahona Drama. Julia, who plays Juliet was gone, so Julie volunteered to fill in. So I died! It was so fun. Everyone was crying over me, then I came back to life, saw Romeo dead, and did what every stupid teenager does and died again, for real this time. The best part was my character, "Peter" is the first to find Juliet again. So I died, popped back up to find myself dead. It was so fun! I love drama.

ReplyDeleteI’ve been cleaning since the day I was able to put enough muscle into scrubbing and wiping off splats and streaks on my oven door. Having her children do their part to help keep the house that they dirty up was very important to my mother. Little did she know, and my siblings and I, that cleaning would become a major part of our lives. Our skills are now sought for from far and wide. We clean people’s houses, schools, church buildings, and dormitories. We seem to have been made for the cleaning business. I myself always feel a thrill when I clean a window or mirror; by time I’m done with them they glisten and shine. Spots and streaks are no match for me and my super powered Windex and cloth. Thank you mother for teaching me your ways.
I wish my cleaning teaching were as well received. But now I am fantasizing about hiring you and your cleaning business.
DeleteThat's where you get all your muscle and strength? Obviously among other things too. I can totally share this facisnation with you, Red! I have always loved to clean and organize. It's become apart of my life and a daily habit. Sometimes I rationalize muskeg and think of its OCD or not. But then I think again and it's more of a weird hobby. I do it when I'm happy. Weird, right?

ReplyDeleteLibraries. The end. That should be all that I NEED to say, but... Libraries are amazing. They have so many resources and options. Libraries are full of worlds more than just the one we live in. Libraries often become an escape for me. Libraries are giant treasure chests if you ask me.

ReplyDeleteToday has been a relaxing day. My friend Hannah and I decided to go on a nature walk, on the path near my house. The path is surrounded by big green trees and green plants, we also crossed a bridge with a small stream running under it. We walked along the path and stopped at a duck pond where we found a bench that was dedicated to some one, we thought how cool it would be to have a bench dedicated to you when you pass away. We sat on the bench enjoying the view and sunning beating down on us with a cold breeze blowing against our faces. We sat and talked to each other for who knows how long. I love just talking to Hannah, she brings so much excitement into my life. She's super talkative and outgoing and we literally talk about everything under the sun. ;) She often takes me on adventures and we'll go ding dong ditch one of our friends with plate of cookies or drop off soup to a friend that's sick. I feel so good afterwards to have served someone and we have tons of fun doing it! :) Today's adventure was enjoying nature and laying on one of our friends hammocks. It's been a pretty good day. :)
I can't wait until spring break because I intend to spend some time outside like this. Wonderful.

ReplyDeleteWe are headed to the wooden park! None of us totally know what the actual name of the park is-- all we know it's completely made of slivers and sketchy wood. But hey! Utilizing this start or spring weather to our advantage has a toll on our young lives. Being able to just be outside opens your mind incredibly. At least, for me, the productive time we utilize is the best we can do with our family. I have had the realization that I have my educational and social lives that influence me. But I mustn't become so attached to them as I should to my family life. Because as a child once more and go get some bruises, bumps, and scratches with your familia.

Being older than I was in the past (I know. Shocking.) I don't have the same energy I used to when I was a kid. But when I do find that energy, oh boy is it fun!!
Caleigh I swear I've been to the same park! Oh my goodness! I agree that family should be closer than friends. Your family will be with you forever and so we must make sure that we have good relationships with those who we shall be spending eternity with!
DeleteI love music. It's one of the best things in the world for me. There are so many different types of music, and they're all powerful in different ways. Yesterday, I purchased an EP called Soft Spoken from an artist called Puppet. This EP is one of the best purchases I feel I have ever made. Music of all genres, from hymns to dance, helps me to stay centered in what ever I'm trying to do. I'm very grateful for music and for the way it touches my life.

DeleteYears ago my dad took me and one of my older brothers fishing. I actually hate fishing because its so boring, but I agreed to go.
ReplyDeleteWhere we ended up fishing was so beautiful! It was this bright blue and green lake surrounded by green mountains. To the right there was this huge grove of white aspen trees with golden yellow and orange leaves. It was a perfect day, not too hot or cold, and it was probably the most beautiful place I have ever been too :)

DeleteYesterday we went to a museum in Waco Texas, Behind the museum they had some 1860 Texan town with life size buildings for you to walk through. When we were in the towns mercantile (or store) they had an old Sears Catalog from that time, which people would use to order things that wasn’t already in the store. While my sisters were off doing something that wasn’t really interesting me at the moment I began flipping through the pages of the catalog and of course I landed in the book section. I started scanning the list of books you could’ve ordered at that time. And out of nowhere pops out the words Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It was being sold for 22 cents.

DeleteToday at my younger siblings’ games, the weather was a tad chilly for the first little bit but then after a while finally warmed up. The grass and trees were still dead and colorless and the clouds made the scene more dark. Everything was going well, everyone having their own conversations, and all the kids were playing their little games when out of the blue a random, older looking lady with white hair, a purple jacket, and a scared face walked up to my parents with this man following her. They both looked friendly and harmless, however, the old women had exclaimed that she didn’t know who the man was and that he kept trying to take her. He then spoke saying, “Sorry guys she has part-time alzheimer.” We knew neither of them so we couldn’t make any assumptions. The man kept making calls to someone else letting them know that the woman, who he called Ruth, would not go with him. The man had also claimed to be the woman’s son-in-law. My mom then asked him if there was someone else there that she did feel comfortable with, he replied, “yeah, my wife’s on her way.” So my mom let him know that it was all right for her to hang out with us for a bit until that person arrived. When she did, and it was sure that the lady knew her, the three of them left and went on their merry way.

ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in my slice yesterday I'm in Utah for a week of skiing. Skiing is such a fun sport, shooting down the mountain, flying over snow, going through trees and over bumps. There are, though, the unfortunate times where you crash into a tree or slip down a run. I have seen quite a lot of spills even though I have only skied for two days now. One guy I saw from a ski lift slipped on a black diamond, slid into several trees, and lay on the snow not moving. Now there was nothing I could do but look back to see if he started moving, but the guys on the lift chair in front of me said they would ski down and see if he was alright. Now that probably wasn't what they had planned to do once they got to the top of the mountain, but they where willing to sacrifice their plans to go seen if the guy was okay. This was not the only time today I saw someone go out of their way to help someone else. It's interesting to see much people care for complete strangers.
I don't ski any more but I loved it last year but this year it's just not my thing. But I'm so glad you like it!!!!
DeleteI was very much aware of my heart beating. I slid through the darkness and reached the other side. I took a deep breath as the first two dancers leaped on stage. The beat thundered through my head. I counted it out, trying my best to stay on time. I caught eyes with Kaitlin. She gave me a reassuring grin. I took a deep breath as she mouthed out "Five, six, seven, eight - skip, two, three." I followed her on stage, trying to keep my fave plasters in a smile as my brain focused on my moving feet. As we moved along into the dance I began to relax. The smile became genuine and I silently cheered when I made it to the bow. We bowed and my legs shook. The lights went off, the stage darkened, my heart screamed with happiness. I'd done it.

ReplyDeleteThe splendor of the melody surged as the scene sank into a triumphant finish. The music brought awe to me in the very center. In a glorious tumble of enveloping, evocative music, brought to life because of skilled performers playing to the genius of an unseen playwright, and lit by sweeping stage illumination, musical theater leaves me wonderstruck. I desperately hope that someday, I will have the chance to be one of those who sinks into exuberant bows after such a sublime piece of art. Performed well, a play can be utterly magnificent, and I aspire to that glittering magnificence.
Done so irrevocably it cannot have been stated any better. I have two simple things to say in relation to this slice: 'by small and simple things are great things brought to past', and music is the art that triggers emotion, therefore, its power over you causes you to have a desire to emulate its effect on others with you yourself being the deliverer.
DeleteI was joking with my brother about how one of the boys I like in my ward came over to ask if Joey could hang out. The reason why we were joking was that I said for him to get to know him so he can come ask if Joey wants to hang out. He said that he will get to know the cute boys in the ward that are my age if I get to know the cute girls in the ward that are his age. It was a deal and I'm not backing down!

DeleteI love those moments when your parents go from their role as being parents to being your friends. This happened to me whilst I was in the living room playing the guitar. All of a sudden, my father walked in with his guitar in hand, and he began teaching me the 'songs of his days', that being Set Sails Free and November Days by The Origin. It helps to remind me that though our condescension to this world and the time we are born are different, we are still all brothers and sisters. There is a purpose to the family you have been blessed with, and that reason shall make itself known when God sees fit to give it to you. We are all the same in our uniqueness, and with our roles becoming united we become an invincible force, ready to walk in this life hand-in-hand with confidence and power.

ReplyDeleteThere are certain actions in my life that take place, and I don’t ever want them to end. The list of these actions is different per person. My personal list is currently, but not limited to: singing a tight chord in choir, getting a massage, completing a perfect dance move, conquering a new piece of music on the piano, hugging someone you love, balancing an arabesque, looking at the stars, and laughing uncontrollably. Next time that you find yourself in moments of bliss, think about adding it to your mental list. You never know when you’re having a bad day and can complete one of those actions from your list.

DeleteToday was awesome! I went to the "Vaal Dam" (Pretty much what South Africans call a lake,a Dam.) and did some awesome water sports! We arrived at night and had dinner right when we arrived. All of our friends were asleep after dinner, so me and my brother took a mattress outside to look at the stars. THEY WERE AWESOME!!! There was so much detail, You could see every star! We saw a bunch of shooting stars and then soon started to fall asleep. We came in and fell fast asleep. The next morning we played tennis and then ate our breakfast. Then we went out on the Dam/Lake to have some fun! We started off with lots of tubing. I jumped on so many bumps! Then I tried skiing while the boys made lunch for us, I only got up for 5 seconds! Not so good! :) We ate lunch and my little brother, my friend and me went to explore the island that was in the middle of the lake. My friend made 2 bow and arrows and I found my own little weapon! While walking on the sand, we saw lots of footprints. We thought they must have been bok on the island. Then we started building a shelter for fun, But it is all fun and games till someone gets hurt! I soon fell on a sharp stick, giving me a gash on my right leg that was very painful. Now it is a giant bruise! Then it was time to go home. We jumped in the pool, got in the car, and drove home. Today was an awesome day!

It's good, even though life gets a little dull sometimes, pun intended. I mean, we're talking years of diligent service! However, for some reason, you humans aren't satisfied with just an old writing pencil. maybe its not exciting or effective enough for you or whatever. Yeah, I was pretty much fine when the pen came out. She doesn't bother me too much, despite the fact that her work is more permanent than mine. Oh, but you people didn't stop there, did you? My biggest rival has been created. The erasable pen. See, erasing is MY thing. I just can't seem to justify a PEN stealing my most useful attribute. It's just insensitive. My book is open to the page I’m on and I want to read. I reach over and close it. Shutting off the world it was offering me an escape to. I glance at the time and let out another sigh. I make a list in my mind of all I need to do. Despair rushes at me and I push it away. Turning on music to help me concentrate. I hear the voices of my mom, my brother. Hear the sound of my dog, Zoey, come up and walk past me. I distractedly pat the leg to call her over and she comes to me. I pet her and allow myself a moment to close my eyes. I refuse to think about everything that needs to be done, focusing on one thing at a time. I’m tired and worn out. I want nothing more than to take a break but I can’t right now and so I sigh and continue with my schoolwork.

No water. The plumber has not called us back. We came back to our house sunday after church only to find a leak. No running water. No showers, sink, or toilet. Survival mode has been turned on. No water to drink or cook with. We are one day in and already done with this kind of lifestyle. We could take this time to practice our self pity, but we just see how blessed are we. We live in a place where this is unusual. We live a life with conveniences that we take for granted. Yes, there is no water is coming from our pipes, but we always have the living water, who is Christ. I will thirst no more.

DeleteBack in December I remember having really bad migraines. I could barely stand up and would often become a weeping mess. Several times I had Ocular migraines, migraines in my eyes. I normally have perfect vision, but during a class I felt no pain, but couldn't even read the notebook in front of my face. I had just gotten over a migraine from the previous day, but I thought nothing of it until it became so frustrating I was beginning to cry. I had no idea what was happening to me, and later the pain hit. I had to stay in bed the rest of the day, again. Now, in my x-rays from the dentist, you could see my wisdom teeth forming in my jaw when I was 7. We scheduled an appointment with an oral surgeon, and they took more x-rays and checked out my jaw. We knew before that my wisdom teeth were coming in, and exactly a week after the appointment I had surgery to get my Wisdom teeth out. Before the surgery, I got the migraines, but when I wasn't having migraines, it was usually a dull pounding headache. Immediately after my surgery (when I wasn't so loopy), I realized the headaches were gone. The only issue with my head after that was I would randomly start to black out while I was standing up, but turns out that was just a side effect of the pain meds. My head felt much better, and I was thinking more clearly. My teeth that became crooked because of the Wisdom teeth are straightening themselves out. My first reaction when I saw the removed Wisdom teeth was: "Holy crap! Those are huge!". It hurt for a couple of weeks (and my siblings ate all my soft food), but it was better than migraines, holes in my sinuses (the roots would have punctured through my sinuses), and damaged nerves (the roots on the bottom would have messed up a major nerve in my face). But the best thing from that experience is now I have empathy for those who are out of activities due to their wisdom teeth. (and I'm glad I don't have to do it again!)

ReplyDeleteRight now my niece is sitting on my lap singing twinkle twinkle little star. She is so sweet. I am lucky to have such a little blessing in my life and can't wait to have children of my own!
ReplyDeleteToday was a little disappointing. I had to cancel a much anticipated climbing trip, again. I've had to cancel this same trip 4 times now. I love to climb, but it's a hard sport when you live in on the southern coast of Texas. I have to drive an hour to the nearest climbing gym just to get a work out in. The nearest outdoor climbing is in Austin TX, which is over 4 hours away. We wake up around 4am, drive across the state, and arrive around 8am. We then unload all the gear and hike to the cliffs where we'll spend all day climbing. It's not easy, but climbing outside on real rock is completely worth it. I haven't been on an outdoor trip in over six months, so I'm hoping we'll finally find a weekend that will work.

My little sister and I like to play piano together. The only difference between us is I read sheet music and she doesn't. There is this one song we have known since we were little and it has become very easy now. We start out slow and each time we finish we speed it up a little. This normally happens about 5 times until we are laughing too hard and can't move our fingers fast enough to find the right keys. My older sister hates the song so we usually hear a very loud, "SHUT UP ALREADY!!!!!" Which just leads to more laughter. I love my little sister so much.
ReplyDeleteGood morning everyone how’s it going…. Good that’s great! So todays story is pretty weird so put your weird caps on and buckle up its going to get WEIRD! You might be wondering what that weird story is…Well I’ll tell you if you could stop interrupting me... Thank you back to the story. So this story is about scout camp and already some of you are like.” PLEASE NO NOT ABOUT SCOUT CAMP”! Any who so this story is the second year of scout camp, and I was sitting in camp when one the boys I met at camp came along and sat next to me. Let me stop the story to tell you this I was wearing shorts that’s very important for you to know or the next part of this story won’t make sense. Ok back to the story, so I was sitting there with my friend and my friend looks at my legs and says this. “you have long leg hair I always wanted to have leg hair, can I feel your leg hair”. He said it so casually like can I have a cookie, can I touch your leg hair like if he practiced it over and over again like a weirdo! And what I said was “hahaha NO you are not touching my leg hair! So there’s my story and yes its true so I hope this brought a little joy into your lives, have a great day guys. BYE!
