“Braces is only unbearable if you convince yourself it is… or if you undergo an appointment with the orthodontics” (something I had made up and once believed in.) I have only had my braces on for roughly a year and I am ready to get them off. It’s not the pain, but oh, how I yearn for: the sweet taste of sparkling cider, richly creamed caramel, greasy and buttery popcorn, and the relaxing chew of pink bubble gum. When I floss, the wire has more than once popped out of the bracket, impaling my right cheek, and has stayed there for more than two and a half weeks until my next appointment. The first thing I always say when I get my teeth tightened is “mom…, when is my next appointment?” I am done with these ‘tracks’ and am waiting very impatiently for the end. These braces have dubbed me the title ‘Trap-Jaw’ and ‘Metal-mouth’ among my fellow family members. Also, I hate it when every single time I reach for the sun-chip bag, my youngest sister always, always, makes sure that she exclaims to the whole world that I can’t have chips or anything crunchy because it interferes with my braces. I mean, come on right? But what makes me even more infuriated is that it’s not even my fault. I didn't choose my dad’s genes that would force me to get my canines pulled down. Why am I punished for what I am not responsible for? I mean, it’s not like I fell down and caved in my entire two sets of teeth. Also, whenever something hits my mouth and I begin to get teared-eyed because of the metal braces snagging my cheek, all I get from my sister is “take it like a man”. Where's the compassion and empathy? They have never experienced and will never experience the -beginning to cry- pain, anguish, and amount of suffering I am experiencing.-calming down- But all I must do… is look at the outcome and see how much better off I will be soon than I was a year before.

    1. Oh... I'm so sorry that you're going through that Caleb. It also scares me, because I was told that I'm going to need braces this year, and I REALLY don't want them. So far though, I think that they have forgotten. Here's the trick: NEVER mention it. :)

Ouch! That's rough. I totally feel you with the braces thing. I've had mine on for a year this month... haha but who's counting right? For me, braces haven't been too bad except my last appointment. Last time I got power chains on top and bottom (all of my teeth) and then I got thicker rubber bands. Which before I was on a break of rubber bands! So it hurt a lot! But for me, it's totally worth the pain to eventually get strait teeth! :)

I got my braces a little before Christmas. They hardly hurt at all and I thought that the braces weren't working, but on the next appointment they told me everything was fine. I was convinced that since I had braces I wasn't going to eat any sugar for Christmas. I was dead wrong. I swear I ate more sugar during Christmas break than ever before. I am really surprised that my braces weren't broken after that. It was truly a miracle.

    6. So the thing about braces is that you forget about them about 85% of the time you have them on and even in the time you are thinking about them, nothing happens for the majority of time. What I was doing was taking that 15%, which involves appointments and other things like sports and dessert, and I expanded it to appear far more gruesome than what it really is. Yeah these things are true, to an extent, but it only needs to be bore for a couple days after a hard appointment and occasionally a couple hours in between months or scheduled appointments. Also, what I have learned about sugar is that eating no sugar is just a suggestion to people who aren't planning on brushing and flossing their teeth every night. I do that and my teeth are white and my gums are healthy, almost like I hadn't been brushing/flossing every night. What also helps is to think about all the people who you will catch their fancy because you have perfect, straight teeth.

    8. I know the feeling, Caleb. I have had braces on since October and they are difficult to handle, but sometimes the way to get through it is just to simply think of how beautiful and straight your teeth will be after the few years that you have them on! It will be worth it, trust me.

  3. Tired, SO tired. School starts in about and hour or two; but I'm just hoping that I will still be awake by then. I get out of bed, shrug off my covers, and begin to get ready for school. Afterwards I walk over to the computer that we have sort-of spliced in between the dining area and the kitchen. Now.... you want to know something weird? I don't feel nearly as tired! My eyes are wide open, I have no homework to do from yesterday, and I feel like I will be able to go through this whole day without falling asleep! See ya'll at school. :)

Title: OLD thoughts AND YOUNG emotions.

"I listened to the steady beat that played in my ears, I heard the symphony of the piano and strum of the guitar being played, and I heard the lyrics of the song being sung.
I found myself vulnerable, vulnerable to the world. My mind was so impressionable to the thoughts of society.
I gave up a sense for a drug, a leg out of carelessness, and I gave up my spirit for popularity instead of choice.
We never thought about protecting the future, we only ever thought about protecting ourselves, we never thought about the consequence, because I guess we always thought that for some reason our children would know how to handle them, but I see know that that was a fools way of thinking. After all how would they know how to even start if we never thought to finish. We will forever be known as the generation of fathers that walked out on our family and the generation that was so privileged, spoiled, and selfish that we caused the future to suffer and pay for the debts we have collected, I see that know.
I understand and I see my failure, I see where I went wrong and I can see how our choices are starting to hurt my children and grandchildrens' future and now I finally understand what my father meant when he told me "If a nation expects to ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

"Wow! that's amazing, I mean not the parts about, you know, not caring about the future, and don't get me wrong the whole stories great, but I was just thinking how coincidently amazing it was that you used the same Thomas Jefferson quote my history teacher always uses." I said as I sat uncomfortably in one of those uncomfortable, cold, metal fold in chairs.

My great-grandfather looked at me a little surprised, but then smiled and laughed before asking me how I knew who he was quoting to which I replied again I had learned from listening to my history teacher, Brother. DeGraff, quote over and over with much pride and importance.

we spent the rest of the afternoon playing board games, eating grandmas wonderful food, and talking with each other about our interests, plans, and past; when night came we all sat down and watched shanghai noon and shanghai nights, the movies, while we all enjoyed warm milk dipped peanut butter cookies and home made freshly toasted and buttered banana bread slices.

    1. That's really deep insight that your great-grandfather shared, Jocelyn. Thank you for passing it on.
It's so important to remember the past and look to the future. When we ignore either one, we get in a whole heap of trouble that's much easier to get INTO than it is to get OUT OF.
And it's awesome that you could recognize a quote because of Brother Degraff. I love when I hear someone quoting a quote I've heard in Liahona :)

Thank you for your slice, Jocelyn!

  6. Oh how I love living on a farm! The crowing of the rooster in the morning, the bleating of the baby goats, the whiny of a horse, the bark of a dog. It gives such a loving of God's creations. Planting asparagus in the ground, filling up water, playing with the little goats, they all bring joy. I have the wonderful responsibility of taking care of all of our animals not counting our three cats. The city is too crowded. I love the clear air and open fields. I love Monopoly! My friend Carson and I have been playing Monopoly since we were 5.
    Sort of.

We would take the Property Cards and put them under their corresponding spots on the game board. We each took 2 tokens for our players. We then rolled the dice and if we landed on a property, we took the property exactly opposite the one we landed on. We sometimes fought about which one it was, though, because we were 5, and, you know, 5-year-olds don't do opposites very well in this situation. We would also make up nicknames for each property, like Atlantic Avenue was nicknamed Atlantica, and all of the railroads were named the first half of the first word + road, so Reading Railroad would be nicknamed Readroad, and so on.

Now that we actually know how to play Monopoly right, it's a lot more fun then trying to play it with a rulebook made by 5-year-olds... :)

    Until next time, slicers!

So I have decided to see if being a paleontologist is up for grabs because I LOVE Dinosaurs! Like that was probably the first job I ever wanted was to find dinosaur bones or work on them. Problem is though the internet is so bad in the spot where I’m sitting in the classroom I can’t load the webpage to find the info! Jeez this is a bit frustrating, or is it? I find that I always say something is gross or frustrating when in reality I don’t think it is or feel it is. If you don’t get what I mean by “feel it is” I tend to not want or like to feel often from past experience sooooooooo that should make it easier for you if you ever ask me “how do you feel” because the answer will most likely be something Spock would say, “I do not understand the question.”

We bought an 8-pack of socks at Costco (which is one of my favorite places on earth) and the difference is not that great. 4 of the pairs are gray with black toes and heels, and the other 4 pairs visa-versa. I was a little bit shocked for some reason, and I realized that there must be another mismatched pair in my house that was missing! We have a mystery on our hands people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started hunting for the pair that day to no avail, so I had to take my socks off to spare my poor family. I have continued this search for months, but still have not brought justice to this heinous crime against nature. I have continually found a one of the mismatched pairs, but then I find the other pair when one of them is in the washer!!!!! I am pretty sure this is some kind of sick joke... But there is a break in the clouds friends!!! I think I have solved my problem! Thanks to me being a meddling kid, I found one mismatched pair yesterday and am now wearing the other pair today!!!!! I have righted the wrong and proved to the little troll who has been hiding them that I WILL PREVAIL!!!

I play Tiresias, a blind Grecian prophet, and as I filled out the sheet, I realized how well I will be able to play this character. What Tiresias wants and does fits with what I would and will do if ever in that situation.
So my Slice of Life today is parts from that sheet. I hope that I was able to convey what I meant in my words.

GOAL: - What do you want more than anything, as a character?
I want the war to be done, but more than that, I want those surrounding me to look around themselves, to see what an influence they can have. I want the people - the mothers and the fathers, the brothers and the sisters, even the little children - to make good choices that will lead to better actions. I want the city to return to safety and sanity, balance and beauty, happiness, kindness, love and most of all, freedom through the correct blend of justice and mercy.
OBSTACLE: - Who can help me achieve my goal? Why? How?
The king, Creon - if he will listen to my advice before it grows too late, he can start to right the city. He can extend kindness instead of cruelty, and warm love rather than cold law. If he can offer mercy, the city can begin to heal. The city can begin to return from the ugly anger and insanity of war. It can change from a place of fear, misery and bloodshed to a place of happiness, unity and security; if mercy is allowed to temper justice, and love is allowed to temper laws.
The people can help me in this, too, if they will let go of anger, let go of fear and hate. If they don’t, then their children will be unable to grow up without these scarring shadows. And the children are the hope of a city. The future
-Who can keep me from achieving my goal? Why? How?
The king, Creon. If he allows his pride to take precedence over his reason, his laws to overcome his love, cruelty to crush compassion, the city will be unable to fully recover from its inhumanity. Harsh hardness is not the way to begin healing. But pride and anger can blind a person like nothing else in ways that are even more dangerous than a physical blinding. And if he is blinded to the truth of what the city really needs, then he and all around him will wind up hurt by his decisions.
TACTICS: -How can I get what I want?
I can warn the king, the people what their choices are doing. I can spread wisdom and knowledge and truth which will also heal the city in its healing. I can inform those around me that as justice is nothing without mercy, so is mercy nothing without justice.
EXPECTATIONS: -Why do I deserve to achieve my goal?
I want everyone to have a happily ever after. I want life and freedom to prevail. As I said under Goals, I want the city to return to safety and sanity, balance and beauty, happiness, kindness, love and most of all, freedom through the correct blend of justice and mercy. My desire is that the city will be set to rights. My desire is right, and my actions - warning Creon, convincing him to ‘bury the dead and let the living go’ - have been as earnest as my desire. I have done all that I can as an aging, blind woman. That is why I deserve to achieve my goal.

Ok so today our inspiration was, "Monopoly" right? So during our writing time in English I started to think of all the times I played monopoly when I was little. I remember playing it a lot with my friends. When we didn't know what to do we would pull out a game and monopoly happened to be it quite a few times. But then Sister Jackson talked about having coconut on her cereal and my mind switched gears. I thought of how I loved chocolate and coconut together. I then thought of,"Almond Joys!" I recently have found a love for almond joys! Anybody else with me!? So thinking about candy it made me think of this quote I saw on Instagram. It said, "When you're stressed, you eat ice cream, cake, chocolate and sweets. Why? Because stressed spelled backwards is DESSERTS. Mind= blown." Haha so there is the answer to all of your problems. Just kidding! ;) But I thought it was pretty interesting! Well, that's all I have for today. Thanks! Stay awesome everyone!

On our way there and back we stayed the night in Vegas. when we went there it was dark so we got to see all the lights. The whole trip was amazing and I am so grateful that I was able to go!

Monopoly. Usually the first thing that comes to a persons mind when this word is mentioned, is the classic board game that shares that label. This game invented in 1903 was created to demonstrate the evils of land ownership; thus the title of monopoly which is defined as "the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity of service."

How many monopolies are present in our country and world today? Are there more than we actually foresee? There are many theories that are prevalent on this subject.

Monopolies are real. They are universal. They are treacherous. They will affect us if we do not affect them; we must.

  31. Slice of Life day 10 (:

I have never played Monopoly before. The closest I have gotten to play it was sometime last year. Here is the story. I was at my friends house. We didn't know what to do. It was a dark gloomy day so we didn't really feel like going outside. Then one of my friends suggested that we play a board game. So we go to the gamy shelf and look through all the games. We finally decided to play Monopoly. I had never played it before so this would be my first time. Well, sorta. Keep reading. So we go to the table and start setting it up. We get the money dealed, the board set up, and we chose our characters. Everything was ready. We were getting ready to start, and then... it was time for me to go home for dinner. I didn't even get to start the game. Oh well. That is the closest I have ever gotten to playing Monopoly. I still haven't played it since. But I still have my entire life ahead of me. I'm sure I'll find an opportunity later.

There's nothing better to clear the encephalon than a little bit of fresh air and walk in the noon-day sun. Finding peace is the best stress reliever.

I don't do classes live (I watch the classes about a week later), and I just found out about the Slice of Life project, so hopefully it's okay if I start late.... :\ Here's my slice of life for the day:

When I was a two-year-old, I thought that I was the most fantastic baker in the world! To show my talent, I decided to bake cakes for my family. The only times that I was able to successfully make a cake were when Mom and Dad were taking a nap and I woke from my nap before they did, or when Dad was at work and Mom was on her computer in her study. To start making my fabulous cake, I got a cake pan from the cupboard; and I didn't even care if a few more cake pans fell out and broke as I pulled out the specific cake pan that I wanted. Then it was time to make my cake! My instructions went a little bit like this:

1)Pour flour into the cake pan. Pour until your arm gets tired, or you can just set the carton on its side and let the flour flow out of it. It doesn't matter if it overflows or if it gets all over the countertop and floor-- Mom just cleans it up afterward.
2)Get your sugar and do the same process with the sugar as you do with the flour.
3)Go into the refrigerator and grab the milk. Because the 1-Gallon milk carton is heavy for your small and weak two-year-old arm, it's okay to spill it everywhere--except in the cake pan.
4)Get the egg carton out of the refrigerator (and you don't even have to open the super heavy fridge door because you left it open when you got the milk out!) and throw in the cake pan as many whole eggs --egg shell, yoke, egg-white and all-- as you want. It's also okay if you use all of the eggs in the carton and all of the egg cartons in the fridge. Don't worry about cleaning up the broken eggs on the floor and counter that missed the cake pan when you threw them from ten feet away.
5)Sneak into your big brother's candy drawer and get your favorite candy that would compliment your cake flavor. Of course, you'll have to taste-test some of the candy to see if it's still tasty enough for the cake...
    6) When all of the ingredients are mostly in the cake pan, take your finger, fresh from picking your nose, and stir the batter with your finger. It may spill out of your cake pan. That's totally fine. Mom cleans it up. She aaaaaaalways cleans it up. ;)
7)Stick the cake pan with what's left of the batter in it in a random cabinet in the kitchen. ....or it could be a cabinet in Mom and Dad's study with all of their nice bills and paper... Again, it may slop around all over the floor and in the cabinet when you're carrying it to the cabinet. And again, ignore it. Somehow, the cabinet serves as an oven...

Once you've finished with those instructions, grab your family to behold your amazing creation! Your brother laughs--he's obviously laughing in awe. Your dad suddenly gets a bad headache when he sees the ruined bills and paper-- he obviously can't handle how good of a baker I am. Your mom bursts into tears-- she obviously is so proud of her prodigy baking baby!

So, yep, I was pretty much the best baker in the whole entire house when I was two years old!

The weight of the cord does not bend or break.
    Heated blankets and folded t-shirts are on the floor;
Colored in various ways, the dryer smells clean and fuffy.
I like the laundry room, because it's part of a holy house.
Like a temple, all things need a place to wash and fold clothes.
Sometimes I wonder if I can feel the spirit here.

For my slice I made a reverse poem, but when I posted it and refreshed the page it wasn't there. I explained in my slice that even though our life may not be the best, we can turn it around and see it in a positive view. I was pretty frustrated, but then I realized that I should look at this situation in a different way. It gave me an opportunity to write a new slice about my reverse poem, and it taught me a lesson. I was telling all of you that you should turn life around when it is not going as well, and I wasn't doing it myself. Now that I have gotten a taste of what I am preaching to you, I advise you to always look at the positive in any situation. If you do this, you will become content with life and whatever challenges it throws at you.

For my slice I wrote about my ballet class I went to this afternoon.

“And up!” my ballet teacher’s voice rings out loud and clear above the soft classical music playing in the background. I shift my body weight to the balls of my feet and shift my shoulders back. My eyes quickly dart to the ballerina next to me, before switching back to my own figure. I bring my toe up to my knee before extending it out, in tune with the music. My grip tightens on the bar as my leg hovers, extended in the air behind me. I point my toes and straighten my neck. I lower my leg back down and sit in first position. The rays of light from the window streak across the room, making the elegant ballerina’s even more beautiful. I adjust my hair and continue with the routine.

Another full day is here. I'm going to go to school, do homework, and go to soccer practice. Soccer. It's an amazing sport; it's fun, it's physical, it's draining, it's fulfilling, it's HARD, it strengthens you, and it does pay off.

When I get to soccer practice, I feel ready to work my hardest and put in my best effort. I warm up but still feel good and strong. About halfway through practice, I'm feeling the burn and I'm tired, but I can still keep going and still try to give my best. By the end of practice, I'm dead. I don't want to move and I just want to be left alone for a few days. I wonder why I even do soccer. It's time consuming, I don't get home until 5:30ish, I have homework I need to do, and I'm just wasted by the end of the day. If I quit it would make things easier. So why don't I quit?

I don't quit because I know that this is good for me. I get to push and test my limits. I get to improve and get stronger. I get to be part of a team and gain experience and knowledge. I have been waiting to do this for 2 years, I'm not going to quit. there is satisfaction in easy things, but there's more satisfaction in endurance, long-suffering, overcoming, and success. Yes, soccer is hard, but it's worth it.

I get home from soccer practice, dump all my stuff on the floor out of pure exhaustion, go eat some dinner, pick my stuff up, do homework, go through my nightly routine, go to bed, and then wake up with excitement the next day. Bring it on!!

People travel the world to find exotic, beautiful things. You can't just go there and expect to find it, we must search for it and want it. I also think that if you go somewhere and find things that interest you, capture those moments and take them with you to other places. I believe that not only the obvious things that everyone sees, and enjoys are the most beautiful. I think the little things are beautiful in there own way. If we don't find some kind of beauty in everything, then there's really no beauty at all. Beauty can be found anywhere, we just have to look for it in the least obvious places.

My family really isn't the best at playing board games and my little siblings can’t stay focused on a game for longer than 5 minutes so playing long board games is out of the question and only something I would do on New Year’s Eve (even then it was a challenge and we would just end up quitting and doing something else). The first time I actually played monopoly was at my friend’s house a couple years ago and I loved it, my friend’s family also loves it and they have a couple different character monopolies sets and it’s fun to mix it up now and then.

What if instead we took a sept a leap into the future with out our electronics and get back to nature?

Where the world asks “I am so bored, what can I do?”

Take a step back, walk out side, put on some running shoes.

Take a hike, bike or swim. The world is more then a two dimensional screen, there is a world of color and life; So get up and go play outside.

I realize that sometimes life doesn't work out the way we plan. We all think and dream about things at random and imagine what we think it should be like or what we wish it to be. Making plans that will probably never happen but we dream them anyways. I do this daily. When life gets hard you make up a different story and pretend to live in it. But what do we do when those amazing dreams that we had start to come true? Or even if you imagine this great story and when it starts to become reality, it gets better. Sometimes I think it's at the worst time, because I forget my story. Maybe it might be better to live that way. But maybe, just maybe, if we try hard enough our storys will get better as they come true. Just a thought.

  60. The game Monopoly is okay, but it sometimes feels as if it will never end. The normal game of Monopoly is very detailed with all the things you have to pick (like the houses and hotels and rent/ buy) and it is so confusing to me that I always prefer to play Junior Monopoly, even when I should be capable of understanding and being able to play the harder version. Then again, in lieu of either Monopoly games, I'd prefer to play something like Apples to Apples or Uno or Taboo. In my opinion, there are so many other fun games out there that make me wonder why anyone would chose to pick Monopoly over those fun games?

Have you ever been to Lowes Xtreme Airsports (LXA)? If not, you should really go. Seriously. There are many things that you can do, such as climbing the rock wall, swinging from the trapeze, and practicing on the American Ninja Warrior training course. As fun as LXA may be, there is a a major downside. Namely, when you fall into the huge pits, filled with foam squares, it is extremely hard not to get tiny pieces of foam in your lungs. Despite the major health hazards, Lowes Xtreme Airsports is a fun place to visit.

The importance of modesty, it is something our church teaches to both the YM and YW. It is something my parents and older sister have taught me since I was a young girl. This year I decided I wanted to buy a prom dress for our Prom in May. I looked and looked. I found beautiful dresses at great prices, but modesty was always an issue. I thought about how I could just not worry about it; I thought of the possibility of trying to find someone or something to fix it after I bought it. But neither felt right. I knew I couldn't be true to what I believed without buying a dress that was modest. Finally after many weeks of searching we found a perfect dress, it was beautiful and modest and a great price. I finally felt at peace with my decision and we bought it. I may not be the prettiest girl at Prom, but I will have something even better than that. I will know that in this dress I am, "Standing as a witness of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places." And that is the most important part.

My family is doing scripture study going off the Preach My Gospel manual. At the beginning we talked about what it means to truly testify of Christ. That The Spirit would bring the words to our lips.
I find it more and more exciting as I progress spiritually. On Sunday, we were having a really meaningful lesson and The Spirit was really testifying to me. As I was making my oral observations to everyone, I just started talking about things that I wasn't thinking about before I started talking. The Spirit was bringing the words to my lips so that I could truly testify of Christ. It was an incredible experience, and now I know that I can do anything through Him!

“You’re not going to ask why I have hundreds of books on my floor?” I chuckle slightly. He knows me all too well. Even though he’s only eleven we are still close.
“Well for all I know you read these all today!” I laugh for real this time, at his comment. I love books and the fact everyone knows makes me kind of happy.

    Oh,
how many times have we "perfect beings" talked to our friends about the quirks and dorks of our world,
    how they walk,
    how they talk,
what they do to gain the label "socially awkward".

Now, what if your friend that you were talking to,
    in secret,
    torments himself too,
he doubts himself because he has one of those quirks that you've been bad-mouthing about.
    Imagine that,
you've been scorning those "lesser beings" more than a little in front of your friend,
who now feels like he - by his best friend - is belittled

    The point is,
gossip not only hurts those you talk about,

    they're dorks too.

People ask me if I am going to REAL school now. Now that I am not in Peru. I want to say that I am doing REAL school. It is different, it is weird so they think it is not real. How it bothers me! Just because someone doesn't look like us, or do what we do. If they sound different or speak different it is a crime. If they can't speak correctly then it is something to make fun of. If they do something you wouldn't do, then we make fun of them. It hurts and brings us down. Trust me, I been through it, I know.

It was my first time in Washington D.C.. I was going with my dad. He goes there about every six months to talk to the Senators and Representatives. He takes one kid up once they hit about age thirteen, and this year it was my turn. I was so excited I was going to get to meet all the Representatives and senators and I would get to go see the the memorials. We got there a late at night, walked to our hotel, and went to bed. Our first day was all site seeing. Our second day was meeting with the Senators, and some site seeing. I really enjoyed sitting through the meetings and watching my dad talk to the Senators and the friends he was going up with to decide who was going to be the bad guy in that meeting and who was going to be the good guy in the next meeting.
Between the meetings, instead of having to walk to each building, they have underground railroad that takes you from the Senator building, to the Representative building, and to the capitol. (I don't remember if it went to the white house, but I think it did) In one of the meetings I got a tour of the capitol on the half that people aren't allowed to go into, so I got to see a bunch of different places that other people don't usually get to see.

When ever my brother, Sam want to play monopoly he always asks me. The reason is because I'm the only one who will eventually play with him. He always tries to get me to play it I say no after awhile and then agree with him. As the game goes on, I'm losing more and more money. Eventually I get bankrupt and he wins. But when I ask Sam to play monopoly deal, which is a card game almost exactly like monopoly. But the point of the game is to get 3 or 5 sets of properties. I always win- well most of the time I win. Few times I lost to my extended family, but that wasn't very much. I'm like the champion of monopoly deal. I'm glad my brother agrees to play it, because he never plays anything with me. When ever you want to play it you probably should play it on a table. If you don't you'll never see the cards that fall down those cracks. Well... Unless you move to a new house. Monopoly and monopoly deal are similar in a way, but also very different. In monopoly deal you have to get more sets of colored properties. But as you know in monopoly you have to get the other people bankrupt. There are many similarities between the two games, but there are many differences too. In my opinion I think monopoly deal is better than monopoly.

  78. The oh so many different styles I have. Thursday I woke up and was feeling rather lazy, so I threw on a boys baseball tee shirt, some black leggings, a pair of navy blue boys church socks from costco (my favorite place to get socks) and a fair of white converse, my hair was put into a very sloppy pony tail and a pretty much just drew all day long...

Friday when I awoke, I was feeling rather classy, in a sense found my coral button up long sleave shirt and threw that on and I put a black slipping cap sleave shirt over the pink shirt, I popped th coller out over the black shirt, I put my favorite black pants on and for my shoes I grabbed my black velvet pointy toed shoes that has a sparkly, ankle cuff that is attached to them. I let my hair just do its natural thing, and was on my way to go shopping.

I am just going to skip Saturday and Sunday because I looked like a druggy all day long, it was a struggle, I did not attend church due to a fever of a rather high temperature.

Monday I was still filling sick so I decided to dress in practically all black, I had a black long sleeve, v neck tee shirt, black legging black headband, The only thing that was not black was my socks, they were a dark red color, I was constantly asked all day long if I was going goth, I just shrugged and would reply that this was my current mood for the day....

That brings us up to today, a above the knee emerald skirt, with a black fancy shirt.... and I would say that today is a bright day....

This was not an intentional thing or something I sought out, but it was a happy mistake. But the mistake I made was to glory in not having to prepare or present a devotional in seminary. Not even 24 hours later, I received a text from my teacher. In this text, he plainly and simply asked if I would give a devotional tomorrow. It has been months since we have had a devotional, but I get asked to give one hours after my triumph of avoiding this exact task. Sadly, I do not have my license... This is something which weighs heavily on my mind, all the time. People seem to ask me the same question, over and over again. "You don't have your license yet?." The answer is simple, it's because I'm lazy. They may be asking this seemingly innocent question out of curiosity, but in my mind, this is how it sounds; "Hey Alec, I bet you were unaware of the fact that I can drive and you can't. I could be in Juarez Mexico in nine hours, and you would still be here, unable to drive. How does it feel, not being able to go anywhere without someone driving you?. I bet it sucks." And then I have to explain the boring reality of things, and they always seem disappointed with my answer.

When I lived in Panama me and my family had an awesome opportunity to go to an orphanage every Tuesday and help feed the babies and little kids then put them to bed for their afternoon nap. Going every Tuesday was a little hard sometimes because it was that day where we had a ton of things to get done, every week. And sometimes we would ask our mom if we could skip going to the orphanage just for that week because it would be easier, she always said no but never really gave an answer. Then one day my little sister was really set on not going and she just kept asking my mom over and over if we could just skip this one time; my mom finally said, “The way I see it is that The Lord has put us in a place where we can do this for him. He can’t come and hold these children himself so he has us do it for him. And for everything The Lord has given us I think this is the least we can give him.” After that we all had a different attitude towards going. It was still hard sometimes but having that thought in our minds really lightened the load. As the weeks, months and years went on we couldn’t wait for Tuesdays to come around because we really grew to love these kids. We began to see them, I think, in a small piece of how God sees them and adores them. We even went for Christmas one year and spent hours playing and just spending time with them. It was really hard when we moved because we knew that we weren’t coming back and that might be the last time we see them. But I know that sacrificing those couple hours every Tuesday helped those kids feel love that had been neglected from them for so long. It also helped me and my family feel the Saviors love in a more personal way, in a way that I had never experienced it. Those Tuesdays helped me put my life in perspective and see that I have it pretty good and that maybe just maybe my problems really aren’t that bad. And finally, those Tuesdays helped me lose myself and find the Lord, which is a blessing that I will never regret.

I had my flower planed selected the night before, it was a gorgeous tulip growing out back. The day of I left my house forgetting the flower. By the time I had realized it was too late to retrieve it. Scrambling desperately I discovered a large bag of candy given to me by my orthodontist for getting my braces off that same week. It was a slender clear bag off Mike and Ikes, and Sower Patch Kids. Was tied off with a bow and looked as though it would pass as a gift. Entering seminary, I got in a line of students putting flowers in the vase. I timidly placed my bag down next to the vase with a thud, attracting the gaze of all in the room. Upon seeing my gift my teacher praised me, sparking jealousy in all the others.

Tuesday. I hate Tuesdays but this Tuesday I had something to look forward to. My dad and I were going saltwater kayak fishing. This is something we both love to do and we are very good at it. Im not going to talk about my fishing success but I am going to tell a story of a few years back when I had no clue what I was doing. My dad and I had just bought our new kayaks to take on fishing trips. We wanted to catch something big so we planned to paddle five miles off shore from Galveston to an oil rig. We had heard these oil rigs out in the middle of the ocean attract fish because fish love structure. So with minimal knowledge of what to do we set off on our slow heavy kayaks. In about two hours of paddling we made it to the rig. Having no real Idea of what to do I put a pice of shrimp on a hook and cast it out. Within three hours I caught two small fish. Disappointed with my lack of success I made one more cast. I caught a small fish called a blue runner that was about six inches long. My dad said “awesome we can use it for live bait” I was annoyed with this statement because what were the odds of catching a fish big enough to eat this live bait hole? However, I did not want to be the negative one so I put the fish on a hook as we started to make our way to shore. About half way back my pole seemed to be carrying extra weight. I started reeling in to see if I had some sea weed stuck on my hook. As I reeled it started feeling heavier and heavier. Did something take the bait? Then all of a sudden something started to fight me, I had a fish on. When I reeled in the fish I was surprised to see a four foot shark on the end of my fishing line. After brainstorming for a wile my dad and I figured out how we could land it without being bitten. At the time it was the biggest fish I had ever caught. I was a good day.

I really like Monopoly. When I was younger, my siblings and I would play it 3 or more days in a row during the summer. I always frustrated me how my brother always attracted all the money. It seemed, and still seems, that he always lands on Free Parking, that he gets the best property set (by trading or landing on them), and that the most people land on his property. He's like a money magnet! He would be collecting all this money as my money slowly trickled into his pile. But that was all part of the fun. It made it a challenge to see who could hold out longer or who could collect the most money. Monopoly is one of the best games ever invented.

Monopoly is a favorite game of my family, especially my brother. He has an uncanny ability to amass capital and property(he does this in other games, too). Everyone dislikes hi merciless style of playing, though it's all in fun. There is this stigma of mercilessness even when he isn't winning. I do pretty well, also, but I'm not hated because I am nice: I forgive rents, settle for less money, and don't brag about my game accomplishments. In addition to being nice, another strength I use is not trading property. I keep as much as I can so other people cannot get a mutiplicity of monopolies. I like my strategy better than my brother's strategy. While he may triumph more than I triumph, I don't have a stereotype connected with me. This helps me to win because people are nice to me as I'm nice to them; they also don't gang up on me. In the end, I win with a more strategy than my brother's.

We were able to learn about CPR at mutual a few nights ago. Once a year our Young Women group does a CPR certification class. This is my fifth year doing it and it never ceases to amaze me how much you can improve a bad situation just by being prepared. It’s going to be easier for everyone included in the situation if even one person has prepared ahead of time. Preparation doesn’t necessarily make the bad situation any easier, but we have the ability to handle it with ease. I think that principle really applies to anything in life. School, Missionary Work, and anything in-between.
