ReplyDeleteThis seat is one of the sweetest ever. It means that I didn't procrastinate and I did what I was supposed to right off... Really cool for a guy who procrastinates forever.
What would be the worst is if one of you posted right before I did. I would literally come through the screen a stab you. Have you ever had an experience like that? Where someone came and stole your glory right out from underneath you?! I really hate those experiences.
Jordan Bennion Period 3
I totally relate to that Jordan. Those experiences are pretty bad, but... I think that it helps to think that: the person who ended up "steeling the glory" didn't mean to, and that they are happy with their accomplishment, and that I can be happy for them, and wait until the next time. :)

Highfive for not procrastinating! I always procrastinate.....
Delete-This post is so relatable! This reminds me of my time at church in sacrament meeting. My parents have always had a thing about us sitting in the front row. Me, along with my siblings, never liked this rule. We couldn't understand why we couldn't just sit in the second row because it looked identical to the first. But then my dad told me that an apostle said that sitting in the front of the chapel is a treasured thing. He says that if you are in the front, you are awake. You have to get there on time to get it sometimes, and you have to act a certain way when you do. Since everyone can see you, you have to be posed. You have to set an example for everyone else around you. And that, my friends, is why we sit in the front row when we can. I don't have to like it, but at least I understand it.
DeleteI love it Jordan! I know how you feel too!!! It's awesome having first comment on here :)

ReplyDeleteBy Jocelyn Crofts.
I stared blankly at the celling, trying to make out shapes that weren't there from the blotted paint marks that had formed sometime when the paint was drying during the final building stages of the house.
"What's going to happen to me in the future?" I asked my self out loud, noticing an icy cloud of white mist escape my lips as I did so. "I must have left my window open last night." I thought to my self.
I removed the covers of my warm cocoon, that had entrapped me in a desirable heat, to instantly feel the sting of cold air surround me and choke whatever warmth I had on my person. I quickly walked through the icy air of my room to my window and closed it, as little puffs of clouds leaked out of my chattering teeth. I then quickly ran back to my bed and jumped back in to the three layers of quilt that had been slowly losing warmth without a main source of heat to circulate throughout the sheets. The blankets where welcoming to the gift of the natural heat my body produced and I was grateful for the blankets assistance in keeping the heat out. As I hid beneath the covers of my bed a thought had presented itself within my mind; I imagined that the blankets where part of a ventilation system and that I was the Furness, the main source, the hart of the operation, and that thought made me happy because I couldn't help but compare my relationship with the blankets to the relationship God has with mankind. After my thoughts had subsided I when't back to sleep.

DeleteThe cocoon you speak of... I have felt it... On nights where I have nothing but a tent and sleeping bag. Usually, though, the cocoon only surrounds my person, not the sleeping bag in its entirety. If I were to scooch two inches farther into my sleeping bag, I would be putting my feet into the ice, cold, enemy territory. The heat would be God and the thing being heated would be us. Its our choice if we want to feel warmth and joy in our lives or experience a cold, hard life on our own.
Now I want to go crawl into my bed.... You did a great job with being descriptive.

DeleteI enjoy the opportunity of going to church and partaking of the sacrament. Going to church allows me to learn more about the gospel. Taking the sacrament allows me to be forgiven of my sins. At church I have the opportunity and privilege of passing the sacrament to others. Ever since I started passing the sacrament, my testimony of it has grown. I have been given a greater understanding of what Christ did for us and what the sacrament means. I am grateful for the Atonement of Christ and all that it does for me.
ReplyDeleteCaleb A, English P3, DE
DeleteWhen I was younger, I used to envy the people who would convert to our religion when they were 50+ years old because they would be baptized and forgiven of their sins much farther along the path than I, an eight-year-old, would be. That was only before I learned that taking the sacrament had the same affect on us. When we bless, pass, or partake of the sacrament, we are taking part of Jesus Christ and need to be worthy of letting him be apart of our lives.

ReplyDeleteThe past week has been very interesting. And rough. And full. The fun started Tuesday. I went to the library at 1 to serve. I got home at 2:50 to leave at 3 for Irish dance. My sister had a performance that night, so we went straight to the covey center, then my mom picked me up to go home, eat dinner, and go to bed. On wednesday, the fun continued, and even more so on thursday. On friday I went to SheTech, leaving home at 8, then went to Irish dance right afterwards, eventually coming home at 6:30. I was very sore, and very tired. I proceeded to wake up at 7 the next morning to go to Irish dance again for our recital, came home for a few hours after that, then returned to Irish dance yet again for a workshop we were doing. Needless to say, I am sore, tired, and because of a cold that is going around, sick. Blech!

ReplyDeleteHopelessness. Emptiness. "It's over" I thought. Nothing mattered anymore. Darkness. Pain. Guilt. Sorrow. These were words I knew all too well. I was the only one I knew that could truly describe these words. ... Why me? Why couldn't it have been someone else... No one knew my secret; no one cared. Everyday was an act to cover up my true self: who I used to be. I felt that everything I was associated with went wrong. Everyone that had ever knew me was wronged because of me. Even things that I thought would last forever, would disappear. Relationships wither. Friendships die. I needed to feel loved by someone other than my family.
I felt that the magic of life was ... gone. Exciting events, lose their luster. Holidays are anticipated for no more. I often imagined my life was good enough to be worth living, but that moment was almost instantly replaced with a feeling of sadness and depression. All of that potential wasted, because I had made an unforgivable mistake.
As I sit and think, I realize it may be better if all of it...
ended.
(to be continued...)
Caleb A, English P3, DE FYI
Delete"Well, you know what they say... trials make the heart grow stronger."
Hopelessness; Emptiness; Those only come when we depend on the world to solve our problems. The world is a cruel place full of wickedness and pride. But our Heavenly Father, a just God, will always welcome us.
Don't let your past define you. We have all made mistakes. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "We are all broken, that's how the light gets in". The tools of Satan will discourage us and make us loose hope, feel dark. The atonement is real! Let it bring light back into your life! You are loved!
DeleteYou may think your hard times will never end, but I promise you, they will end. Someday you will look back and realize you made it. Stay strong and things will work out.

When some of those emotions overcame me, Brady, I looked to the Lord. Not immediately, not instantly (which I regret) but eventually. Christ's love and Atonement are the only things that can soothe and still those emotions and thoughts. Maybe those reading this will think, "the Atonement? How?"
DeletePray. Pour out your feelings to the Lord as if He were sitting right there. Tell Him everything. Everything that you don't want to say to your friends, your parents, your leaders and anyone else,
say. to. Him.
If you're crying by the end of it, that's okay. I was.
And then, listen.
Go somewhere quiet and undisturbed, and watch dust motes float through the air or the stars slowly pass through the heavens. Count the number of threads in your pillow. But go somewhere alone and quiet, and wait for the peace that He WILL extend to you. Maybe your peace will come through the love of family and friends, or a sense of stillness or thanks or happiness or love. I don't know how the Lord will bless you exactly. But He will. I know and can promise that this did happen, to me

ReplyDeleteAn interesting thing I have thought about is how in the future, when the Plan of Salvation is complete and we are living an eternity in our designated kingdoms, if we would be able to look back on our time in mortality as if we were reliving it; if we could meditate and literally relive our experiences on this earth. If that is true, than when I think about it, there really are two of me; the part I am living is stuck here in mortality and my spiritual, perfected self is in heaven looking back at the time I am currently living. They say the mind records everything that happens in this life. I can’t wait to hit play and see my memories in a perfected sense.

DeleteThis week, I had a very special experience, and was inspired today in Sacrament Meeting to write a poem about it.
ReplyDeleteRemember; the sky is full of stars;
the mind is full of thoughts.
Remember; the heart is full of feelings,
and the soul holds all above.
Remember; I am a sky, full of twinkling stars;
I am a mind, full of differing thoughts;
Remember; I am a heart, full of strong feelings;
and I am a soul, full of great worth.
Remember; we are all skies, endless,
Full of color; the throne of a sun.
Remember; we are all skies, starry-eyed,
The ballroom of a dancing moon.
Remember; we are all minds, depthless,
Full of thoughts; the arena for creating.
Remember; we are all minds, spinning ideas,
The birthplace of imagination and genius.
Remember; we are all hearts, fathomless,
Full of feelings; the streambed of emotion.
Remember; we are all hearts, strong and brave,
The home of love and happiness, sadness and anger.
Remember; we are all souls, ageless,
Full of fire, and of great worth.
Remember; we are all souls, spirit children,
The vessels of a breath of life.
Remember; you are of worth,
Full of color, thought, feeling and fire.
Remember; you are of worth,
Endless, ageless, fathomless, depthless.
Remember; you are of worth,
dauntless, changeless, priceless, deathless.

The salmon gushes out lemon sauce and butter, the rice pot spits up steam as the lid is opened to reveal white soft rice. The salad lays there in the bowl with flavors dripping from each end of each piece of salad. ReplyDeleteI had the opportunity to go to Chicago with my grandparents, and older sister, Eliza, around this time last year. It was originally a business trip, and was later turned into a vacation for the four of us. For the first four days, while my Pops went to those business meetings, the other three of us roamed around the city. In those four days I found out a few things: that there really is a Corner Bakery (as in the chain) on every corner, that it's not nearly as clean as cities like Salt Lake and Portland, and that the Chicago Theater for a beautiful place. Even if the tour guide got some of his facts wrong.
Busy Sundays are my favorite yet not my favorite in parallel realities. I like to rest and catch up on letter writing and extra scripture study, but Girls Camp Kickoff firesides are pretty awesome too. Oh, and choir practice rocks the house as well. The song of the heart is a prayer unto the Lord, right? There are a few other things that round out a sardine-packed Sunday when I stop to think about it. ReplyDeleteMiracles Are For Real
All of my life, I have relied on Heavenly Father for guidance, protection, and strength. That doesn't mean that I never had trials or experienced pain. I learned how to become spiritually closer to my Father in Heaven. I have many experiences recorded in my journal of the multiple miracles I have seen, just by putting my faith in Jesus Christ. When I was applying for BYU, I had taken the ACT twice. I never had a great score and felt that it was impossible to get into BYU. With faith and perseverance, I trusted that the Lord wanted me to go to BYU. Some how, I knew I would be able to get into BYU. A couple of weeks later, I find out I can go to BYU Idaho. The Lord is so merciful.
My Dad and I realized that we have lived here long enough that there is not a good reason for why we are not in the ward choir. My Dad and I both love singing, why not?! So we went. It was fun, but it is not an experienced choir. My Dad and I are both experienced singers and well, the ward choir was not. But over all we had a good time and the choir has great potential. I have a feeling my Dad will be called to be the next ward choir director.

ReplyDeleteOn Sunday we had B.Y.D. and so all of the Young Men and Young Women were combined for third hour. If you don't know what B.Y.D. stands for it mean, "Bishopric Youth Discussion." So we had one of the bishopric members talk to us about "Reverence." It was amazing! At first he showed us a poster of one direction and then he had two volunteers come up and draw silly stuff on the poster with sharpies! (Like mustaches, glasses, ties ect.) So after we kinda laughed about it he told the person who drew the best on the poster that they got to draw on the next one. He then pulled out a picture of the Savior and we all quieted down and were all like, "ummm we can't draw on that!" Some people said, "We don't need to change anything about that picture because He is Perfect." So then, The Bishopric member talked to us about reverence. He said that we all quieted down because we were showing respect and reverence for the Savior. We talked about how we should act in different situations. We read a scripture somewhere that talks about how there is a TIME and PLACE for everything. For example, you wouldn't act the same way you would act at a concert as you would in sacrament meeting. Anyways, It was an amazing B.Y.D. the spirit was so strong and I learned a lot of new things. It was a great part of my day. It made me think about how I act and present myself in different situations.

ReplyDeleteI had an amazing experience yesterday (Sunday). Our stake is going on a trek this June and all the youth were encouraged to find family names to walk for. There is a girl in my ward who is really reserved and just pulls herself into a shell that nobody feels comfortable to really approach her. She has had some really hard family experiences which left her as an only child. When our YW leaders announced a couple of weeks ago that we needed to find family names, I knew I needed to help this girl find one. I had tried a couple of times to invite her over to help her look, but she never got back to me. Finally, at church I approached her in person and we arranged for her to come over to my house that afternoon. I showed her the basics of FamilySearch and then we got searching. Most of her family had been done, and I was getting worried. The whole time I was praying fervently in my heart that we would be able to find at least one name so that this could be a good experience for her. Over the course of three hours, she was able to locate 5 family names that she could take to the temple to do baptisms and confirmations for. I was so happy. She even sounded like she was going to do it again and look for more. I felt like that was the best way I could have spent my Sunday afternoon.

She doesn’t get to come very often though because it is such a long way to travel. However, she drove up last night for spring break and will be here for an entire week! Jenny Phillips is a wonderful woman. She shares her testimony through her talents. It blesses me because I love listening to music. Her songs are uplifting and help me make decisions. I went to a fireside she performed at. She sang and spoke about the pioneers. "Always Remember" was the title. My stake is going on the pioneer trek this year and the fireside was to kick it off and get people excited. After going to it I am very excited to go and get a taste of what those saints went through. ReplyDeleteIf we keep hiding away our sin
And cover our transgressions up
And we do not come to a place of confession
To allow the light of His love
To reveal to us where we're in need
Of forgiveness from the Lord
Then we will not prosper in our ways
Or know His mercy at all
But when we confess all of our sins,
Forsaking what is not right,
We will surely obtain God's mercy
And walk in it all our lives.
I love this so much because it tells us all how important repentance is.

ReplyDeleteI get along better with kids younger than me. I connect with them more. I would rather be out playing and running than shopping. Rather wear a hat than do my hair. I would rather wear sweats than jeans. I would rather be with kids than people my age. I can shoot a Nerf gun and hit a moving target, I can play video games and beat almost anyone, I can go outside barefoot and not worry. At a party I would rather be with the little kids, getting dirty and having fun than with the girls my age, gossiping and being on electronics while ignoring everyone else. I don't look 17 but I don't care. Give me a kids meal anytime, give me chalk for outside and I would spend time on my knees and hands getting chalk all over me. At family gatherings, I am the one hanging with small kids, going around and taking them outside to play games or to run around and be kids. It is just who I am.

DeleteI and my family are getting our house ready to sell so we can move to Denver. Part of moving is getting the lawn to look nice before we sell it. Our lawn is unlike others. It’s about half living and half dead. In order to save our lawn we seeded it. To keep these young sprouts alive they must be watered regularly. I not being the most organized of people, makes it especially difficult to remember to get things done in a timely manner. Trying to keep track of which section of the lawn has been watered already or not, is a difficult task. Many times I have forgotten to set the alarm and a portion gets twenty times what was needed. Hopefully I’ll learn from this experience and work harder at keeping on the ball at school and at a future job.

As we raced, I found myself lagging a bit behind him, and as I fell behind, I watched him tumbled over his bike with a quiet yelp, as I burst out laughing, paying little attention to my own bike, I was thrown off my bike as well, although we were both a bit bruised, we sat there laughing for a good ten minutes.

ReplyDeleteChurch was great today, we learned about the priesthood. Today I read my scriptures and finished my personal progress. I'm so glad to be done with it and look back on all my accomplishments. It was hard work but I got through it with some help from my friends.

ReplyDeleteTwo days ago played a game called tf2 with my good friend Zander. And he has a youtube channel so he thought it would be a good idea to make a video of it (Not to brag, but i am WAY better at the game than him). But for some reason, i have absolutely no memory of it happening. He just reminded me today and i was just WHAAAAAAT? I remember a few things, like him bragging about his amazing new recording software, but nothing else. And that sick killstreak. that was awesome. I have no idea why i don't remember, Zander's horrible skill must have made for such a bad memory my brain blocked it out.

Me and my cousin, Carson, went down stairs and played Rise of Nations on the computers. Carson and I were on the same team and after two and a half hours we finally won. I had sat in the same position for so long that I almost fell down because my legs were numb. I hate it when that happens! It was worth it because we won!

Has anyone ever named something after someone? For example: my Aunt Jen used to drink all the milk but a few drops and then put the carton back in the fridge. The next person to pull out the milk would be sorely disappointed to find only a drop or two left. So my parents nick named that act of leaving a little bit left after her. "Who pulled a Jen" or "Someone 'Jenned' the milk".
ReplyDeleteToday we are going to the movies, then we are going to dinner. I'm excited! I like spending time with family and friends.

ReplyDeleteI'm really excited for tomorrow. I've been getting noticed for my cosplaying abilities. I'm going to the zoo with a group of cosplayers. The funny thing is that I'm the oldest out of the group. The youngest just turned 13 yesterday. They are all my little baby cosplayers. I consider myself the mom of the group. Anyway, they're super sweet and they all understand my bubbly and random personality. I'm glad I have found such a sweet group of people who like anime, but now I have found a whole group of nerds like me.

ReplyDeleteI just watched Les Miserables and cannot get the songs out of my head. It's truly incredible how you can tell a story with music. The music specifically in Les Mis is very powerful. Yet beautiful. Quite the theory of opposites.
I totally agree! Music is like a different language, and tells a story in a different, yet profound way.
DeleteYesterday my sister and I got out are horses and started riding them. We road them through our fields for a while and then we wanted to start running them. When we started to run them they weren't going to fast but all of a sudden they started to fly. We were going for a while and then my sisters horse spooked and my sister flew off of her horse. I stopped my horse real fast and went back to see if she was ok. She got back up, lunged her, and started riding again.

When life hands you lemons, don't make lemonade. Get mad! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! "I don't want your dang lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?" Demand to see Life's manager! Make life rue the day it could give Cave Johnson lemons. "Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down, with the lemons!" - Cave Johnson
ReplyDeleteHa ha! That was awesome Vince! Keep it up. :-)
DeleteOne time we attempted to hatch duck eggs. Out of 5 only one ended up hatching. My little sister named her Quackers. So original, i know. Quackers did this weird thing when we would put her in the water. She would swim in circles and it took us weeks before we realized she was blind. She lived a very normal, happy duck life. She knew where her food was and we had some other ducks for her to socialize with. She would follow them around and talk to them. She did love to be snuggled though. I would just sit and hold her in my arms and she would love it. But we got a dog and the dog kept attacking her. So we had to take her to an animal sanctuary down in Kanab Ut. She died there. I really miss her. She was such a cute, sweet little duck. Oh and she was a white duck.

ReplyDeleteIt goes on, and on and on,
Mile after mile,
That’s not worth my while,
I look out my window, and everything seems dull.
As I grip the steering wheel I look at the sky,
My knuckles turning white I ask myself why?
The sky is grey like my soul, oh why must I feel so low?
