Slice of Life: DAY 17

Remember that you are writing a snippet of your life, a slice, not giving us the whole pie, so write well but write with brevity.

After you post your slice, strive to comment on at least three other slices.

How to get entries into the raffle at the end of the challenge:
  1. Post your slice here BY 9 PM (MDT). For each time you post, you get an entry.
  2. Comment on other slices at anytime throughout the challenge. For every five thoughtful comments that you make, you get an entry.
  3. Slice every day for the entire month (31 days), and you will get an entry into a special drawing.

  1. Slice of Life Day 17:

YES! First comment! Anyway... :) So, I told you guys that I would brainstorm about the second verse. and here's what I've got:

    V2. I've seen a girl - walking alone - play'n the one-man band.
She - doesn't seem to know - that she. Is. Loved.

Chorus: Cause the winds they blow against the walls that shelter the girl within. Hiding from the things that already have been. Already have… Be-----en

Okay... Maybe I just came up with that on the spot and didn't really remember to brainstorm..... ANYWAY! :) So... Was that okay? I may need some pointers on this one. It's mostly just a rough draft. I haven't tried it with my guitar yet, but I will! I hope that you enjoyed that verse. If you have any ideas, please feel free to comment! This one needs a little more help... :)

    Signing off!

    1. :) I had an idea ... shoot me down if you hate it, I seriously won't be offended at all.

      I---- saw a place - a forest clearing - locked in time
And deep - within the woods - there plays a girl … unaware of the past. The. past…

Chorus: Cause the winds they blow against the trees that shelter the girl within. Hiding from the things that already have been. Already have… Be-----en

I'll try and think of a few more such ideas if you'd like

    3. I----’ve left a place - threaten’d by war - hidden by-y storm
Once bright - now clouds’ve shadowed - all within the kingdom ... the kingdom.

    9. :) I had another verse I thought of last night

      I---- slept in a place - a dreamer's tower - made of hope, desire
And deep, inside the stones, there rests a dreamer, dreams lifting them higher

Cause the winds they blow against the walls that shelter the dreams within. Hiding from the things that already have been. Already have… Be-----en

  2. This is part of the talk that I was assigned to give on Sunday. I have been really appreciating education this week (because I can't watch the live classes since I'm behind) and it was interesting to think how education benefits the church. Tell me if you can think of any other ways you can think of that are:

Benefits of Education in the Church

An education helps us fulfill the church’s threefold mission: to preach the gospel, to perfect the Saints and to redeem the dead. In the Church, we learn how to preach the gospel through inviting others to come to activities, participating in and teachings lessons and going on missions. We perfect ourselves as we listen to and learn the Lord’s guidance and commandments from the teachers and leaders all around us, as well as the Holy Ghost. Without education, we would be unable to do family history and thus, to redeem the dead.
But that isn’t all. Let’s think of a few of the benefits of an academic education in everyday church life.
Math and Science are taught as a part of an academic education. Math will help you with tithing, at the very least, and Science can help us understand the magnitude of God’s creations and power. Think of the Scientific Method -Observation/Research -Hypothesis- Prediction -Experimentation -Conclusion That shares the same basic idea as D&C 9:8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.
An Academic Education will teach you English, too. English is important. You learn how to read, and if you can’t read then you’ll never be able to gain a complete testimony of any of the standard works. You learn how to research a topic and write on it in English, which helps you if you are ever asked to teach a lesson or give a talk. (Trust me, I speak from personal experience.) Also, English will help you understand the deeper ideas in the scriptures and in GC talks.

Yesterday, in ballet class, we did some muscle conditioning on our cores. After about 20 minutes of it, my abs were as floppy as a noodle! I was so tired from it! Then, today, when I woke up, my abs were SSSSOOOOO sore! It even hurt to breathe! How I describe a sore muscle is that "it hurts so good." :) I will need to practice those core exercises again each day so that I can strengthen my core and get some 'sick abs, dude!' 7. Its my brothers birthday today. We had French toast, home made whip cream, strawberries, and syrup. I got up late so I had to get last pick on the French toast. It was so good I've never had anything so good before. In public school on Fridays we had "French toast" but in actuality it was toast with syrup on it. That school sucked but that's why I'm glad I don't go there anymore.

She went to the other side of the kitchen for a second and while I waited, I swung my hair back and forth. I had no idea that you apparently aren't supposed to swing anything flammable around open flames. All of the sudden my back felt very warm and next thing I knew there was a bucket of water over my head. My long hair wasn't so long anymore. I had to cut it to my shoulders. So this week is a little stressful for me.
I feel like I have way to many things going on.
Thinking about this whole entire week stresses me out.
I'm just trying to take everything one step at a time.
Today is kind of crazy because I'm in charge of our young men and young women combined activity and there are so many different little details I have to think about. I have wonderful leaders and counselors to help me out but I just really want this activity to turn out; we've been planning it for weeks. So the activity we are doing is, "Life Size Candy Land." It was really fun to plan this activity but there has been so many hours put into this activity it's crazy. I'm trying to balance school, dance, being Mia Maid president, planning things for girls camp, and just living life. It's seems like there isn't enough hours in the day to fit everything in.

Relating to my crazy life, I liked the conference talk we listened to in class today. Sometimes we need the heavy load in our life to help us push through life. Life is definitely a continual learning cycle. You can never learn too much. You can never know everything. We are always having the opportunity to learn something new each day. I think if we accept our trials and try and learn from them then we can go much further in life.

Thanks for reading my slice (if you got this far).

It's about a girl who goes to a undercover school for spies. "The last thing Cammie remembers is leaving her school to protect her friends and family from the Circle of Cavan - an ancient terrorist organization that has been hunting her for over a year. But when Cammie wakes up in an Alpine convent and discovers months have passed, she must now face the fact that her memory is a black hole. The only traces left of Cammie's summer vacation are the bruises on her body and dirt under her nails, and all she wants is to go home.
Once she returns to school, however, Cammie realizes that the Gallagher Academy now holds more questions than answers. Cammie, her friends, and mysterious spy-guy Zach face their most difficult challenge yet as they travel to the other side of the world, hoping to piece together the clues that Cammie left behind. It's a race against time. The Circle is hot on their trail and will stop at nothing to prevent Cammie from remembering what she did lest summer."

    2. Hi Ainsley!
      I'm sorry you've got writer's bog.
What helps me, when I'm slogging through the muddy morass of the dreaded Writer's Swamp, is to go back and read a book or watch a movie that inspires me. It can be a book/movie I've read/watched a million times, or it can be a book/movie I'm reading/watching for the first time. It doesn't matter.
Throughout the read/watch, I look for plot twists. I think of new or different ones. I notice what the writer did with the dialogue, or how the soundtrack affects the mood. And I remember the wonder of telling a story, a story only you can tell. And then, I go to back to my writing, go to the beginning or my favorite part, and read it. Read full of the excitement of having just finished a brilliant book/movie.
Then go to the part that's got a patch of Writer's Swamp, and either change what you don't like, what you're hung up on, or add something totally new - and completely unexpected. I had my grumpy protagonist bake a pie with a friend and talk about their childhoods. :D which was totally not what you'd think my charrie would do. I'm not saying that's what you have to do. It's just what helped me push on. Write about a character learning a new skill. Going on an unexpected side-trip. Or have them receive a letter/text/hologram etc from a friend who tells them something unforeseen.

I hope this helps! you're an awesome writer, Ainsley, and you will get through this!

She is so very smooth and elegant.
    But just like everything today,
there's always something not to like,
her job is to dance on a pole all day,

Yesterday, I decided to make cookies, without a recipe. I thought I knew a certain recipe well enough that didn't need to have it right in front of me to make it. I was wrong. I didn't know whether I was supposed to use baking soda or baking powder, so I guessed. I guessed wrong. I wasn't sure on the temperature either, so I guessed. I guessed wrong, again. After they were mixed together, they seemed a bit sticky, so I added more flour, and baked them. When they got out, they were slightly overdone, dry and had a weird texture. When I tasted them, I realized I had forgot something... the sugar. I forgot the sugar in cookies, how do you even do that?!?! So, the moral of the story is to use a recipe when you bake, or at least I should when I bake.

It’s just been hard getting together for a while and I think something needs to change. I want to be with you again but we always seem so far apart and it’s scaring me.

At first I thought I couldn’t get enough of you but now it feels like when we see each other we’re distant. We used to spend a lot of our time together but now one of us is always busy and it never seems to work out. I want to make this work, I really do, but I don’t know how long I can keep it up.

  27. This morning, I was awakened by the sound of my mother's voice calling all to get ready to go jogging. I thought to myself, "I'm not going to go. My bed is so warm, I'm tired enough to fall back to sleep, why should I get up? And anyway, I can already run 4 miles. That's more than what they can run. They need the practice." However knowing that last thought seemed a bit harsh and almost hypocritical, I rolled out of bed (literally), put my jogging clothes on, and then walked out the door with a banana in one hand and a water bottle in the other. It was rainy day and I quickly walked to the track to begin running. This is what my brain was doing on the run:
Lap 1-5: Alright, shoulders relaxed, arms to the side, knees up, feet heel-toe movement...
Lap 6: Almost there, to the halfway point. Why is it taking so long. (Speed up)
Lap 7: Only lap seven? Come on... (Speed up again) Oh, shoulders relaxed, knees up, arms straight…
Lap 8: Why do I keep looking back my shoulder. No one is even there. Oh, beware puddle.
Lap 9: Droplets of rain are clinging to my elbow and soaking my shoes and shirt. Rain is falling off my head and all I feel is wet. A bird has flown in front of me carrying a worm. Interesting...
Lap 10: Yes, halfway point. Its taking so long. Wait, that’s because I'm going too slow. (pick up speed)
-After the halfway point my Brain has lost its common sense and I begin seeing things that weren't there before.
Lap 11-13: Is that an animal? No it’s just an oddly shaped leaf. Half of the first lane has been flooded so I will move to the second.
Lap 14-15: ***I imagined I was at the last lap and was about to cross the line but then all of a sudden I'm thrown back with a broken leg and black eye. When I look up I see an epic kung fu master in a black belt in ready position to fight me. I called to him "Hey, Why did you do that?" His reply was nothing for he knew not english... I began crawling to the finish line but he then cracked my ribs and spine. Then he kicked me in the***- What I'm only on lap 16. Ughh....
Lap 17: I began giving my self math equations for me to solve (That is how tired I was). It was: Factor X2-2X+3. I first tried to factor it cleanly without the quadratic equation but found that it wouldn't work. The middle term would have to be -4X. So I then solved it using the quadratic equation which I can't type because it wont work. I learned Algebra back in 8th grade but I saw my brother learning about it. So...
Lap 18-19: My brother and mom have returned. Wow. In the time it takes me to run 4 and 1/2 miles it takes them to run 3. Good thing I am running in the 5K this Saturday. Ow. I think I have a blister. Yep, probably the size of a pinto bean on the arch of my foot. Ok than just run on the sides of your feet.
Lap 20: Almost there. Almost there. I noticed myself singing 'Called to Serve' and forming a one-man band by thumping my hands on my chest and running into the puddles for the tempo.
-When I crossed the line, I smiled for I had raised the bar by running a mile over my maximum. I will now be running 5 miles now that I know I can do it.

On the walk back, oxygen barely accessible to my airless lungs, I thought to myself, "I need to write a book about this. Anything is possible if one puts one’s mind to it. That is how achievement can be found in the most desolate of places. " I took off my shoes, saw the remnants of the blisters, and walked into the shower. We feel pain so that we can feel pleasure. We fall so we can be raised up. Shoot for goals that are out of your comfort zone and are a bit of a challenge so that we can be strengthened and ultimately, perfected.

  28. I WON!!! Wahoo! I beat Sean at Catan! It was awesome! There is a reason why it is awesome though. You see, my family plays Catan with our own little rules we made up (actually it is really just Jacen Sean and I). To us it is a lot more fun and some of the rules make the game a little more fair for everyone. I am going to tell you the rules and then how I epically beat Sean ;)

To make it fairer for people when you are placing settlements, we made this rule. When you are setting up the board you normally would put the numbers facing up. What we decided to do is have it so that the numbers are facing down. This makes it so that you don't know what the number is. Next you place your settlements. Once everyone is done placing settlements, you flip over the numbers that have settlements on them. This makes it more fair and better. Instead of say, the first two people take the best numbers and then leave that third person with the bad numbers, you have to trust to luck to get good numbers. As you go along and build different settlements, let’s say that you build a settlement by some of the numbers that have not yet been flipped over. Once you build that settlement the numbers touching it get flipped over. So again, you don't know what they will be. This rule also applies to ports.

Another rule we made is that you can fight for settlements. You start by building roads to another person’s settlement or city. Once that is done, it allows you to attack them. In order to attack them you have to pay one of each resource card. This is how the battle will go. You are the attacker. You say you are going to take their city or settlement. You pay the required resources. To take over the city or settlement you need to role a number higher than the defender. The defender will role first. If you are attacking a city, the defender gets to role two dice. If you are attacking a settlement, the defender only gets to role one dice. The attacker ALWAYS gets to role one dice, no more. If you lose, they keep their city. If you win, the city is now yours and you will replace it with your color.

This is how we play with two players. We use the same rules mentioned above. The goal is to get twenty victory points instead of ten. It makes the game a bit more difficult. If you are going to twenty victory points, you need more settlements, cities, and roads. Therefore instead of having one color, you get two. It's like I had blue and red and Sean had white and orange. When you start the game, instead of placing two settlements and two roads, you place a settlement and a road first and then you place a city and a road. Because of this, you start with three victory points instead of two. Remember, this paragraph only applies if you have to players.

That is how I play it with my siblings. It makes the game more interesting. I beat Sean by taking all of his cities. That is how I won. I got points with every city I took, and he lost points with every city that was taken from him. It was kind of funny to me. But sadly, now Sean won't play with the taking over settlements rule. Dang it. Oh well :( Catan is a great game. You should play it.

Suddenly, choirs of miniscule beef angels started singing their praises. This corned beef was the god that all other beef worships. Corned beef is so totally a dish for every day of the year. YUMMY!

  30. Ever remember those days when you pick up a match and are about to strike it on the box when your mom says, "Don't play with fire" and then you put the match down with a sad look on your face. About then you have two choices. 1: Wait for your mom to leave and then pick up the match and strike it revealing the fire hidden within. 2: Obey your mom and put the match back, all the while struggling to keep a cheerful face on. Out of these 2 choices which one would you choose? Or do you have an alternative choice that you would choose? To be honest I have chosen either one of these every now and then by trying to obey my mom or to satisfy that yearning every person has to just light the match and watch the flame dance up and down the match.

In our lives we all have at least two decisions we can choose when our heavenly father says “Don’t play with fire.” The first could be to wait until “we think” he can’t see us and then light the match. The second could be to obey him and put the match back struggling to realize how it could harm us. Now the match could be the fork in the road which causes us to stop and consider both decisions. While the fire could be anything he sees as something harmful to us, possibly the wrong decision. But if we listen to him and choose not to light the match then we can not only be safe but be blessed too.

Now I find myself a day away from the first soccer game, with ice on my feet, hoping they will heal in time. I am also hoping to get some sports tape to help my feet before the game tomorrow. On a positive note, the soccer uniforms came today! They don't have numbers on them yet, but I think they will after the game tomorrow. Driving on a long Nabrasken road our destination is far, far away. We often think of perfection like that. That it is far, far away and imposable to reach, but it's not.
Instead think of a trampoline with a tree next to it. The tree has a high branch leaning over the trampoline, that is our destination (perfection in Christ). As we jump on the trampoline we are in and out of the tree branches hight, just as in life we are in and out of perfection. We make mistakes, we fall. But if we quit jumping we will never be able to grab on to that branch and be perfected.

There are days when we want to sit in a corner and remember that it's best to be shy.
There are times when we wish we could fly, but we can't because we're chained down by our feelings.
Why? Why does this happen? I wish that I could walk around the streets clappin for joy, but I can't.
    I'm just me, I'm just a boy.
There are times when we can do nothing but turn to the lord,
There are days when we cave because of the nice things everyone else has, but we can't afford.
That doesn't matter to Him though,
Put your trust In the Lord. He'll help you through and through.
There are times when we can do nothing but have faith,
and that is all that we need.

I wish my slice of life was interesting like the dream I wrote on Day 5. I only write a lot when it is something I am passionate about. This slice is not so good; However, I can change my slice into something more fantastic.

Seek to do good by serving a friend,
And you will be served by someone you don't know.
Find time to give to the poor,
And you will be blessed unexpectedly.
Write a letter to someone who needs a hand,
And you will receive one also.
    Be kind to others,
And you will be treated the same.
    Speak highly of your counselors,
And they will look up to you.
Be honest with everything you do,
And others will trust in you.
Smile to everyone even if they despise you,
    And someone will smile back.
    Be Christ like to all,
And they will see you differently.

  36. On this day of luck with pots of gold laying under a rainbows arch, I am brought to think back of my ancestors of long ago....

They lived a farmers life on the isle of man that lies between Great Britain and Ireland, a place of old fables and green hills, castles and four horned beasts.

Though I have never been to the land of my heritage I am often thrilled by the writings of my ancestors who speak of the joy of the flowering hills where one could go to think and sit still among Gods creations. As I think of my ancestors I can not help but thank God for the blessing of my ancestors coming to America and traveling west in the Marten hand cart company.
Though they had trials and much hardship on their way they came to the land the lord had waiting and because of their great sacrifice and fervent belief I am blessed to be in a home where I have grown with the gospel in my life and am strengthened by there written testimonies.

So today on St. Patrick’s day It is not the fables of old I truly turn to but to my loved ones who came to this land from a home land they loved, because of their faith in the lord.

Happy St. Patrick’s day every one and as they say, May the road rise up to meet you!

There are some things that you just have to stand back and look at and ask, "Who came up with this?" For example, the "tradition" of pinching people who aren't wearing green on St. Patrick's Day. Who's idea was it to just go up to random people and pinch them for no reason other than they aren't wearing a designated color? It almost sounds racist when you think about it. And don't even get me started on the guy who ate the round, white object that came out of a chicken's butt.

It has always been a dream of mine to fly; to swoop between tall buildings and above the clouds, the wind blowing in my face, and an exciting thrill and flutter in my stomach. I want to fly like Jack Frost in "Rise of the Guardians" or like Hiccup and Toothless in "How to Train Your Dragon". But, like I said, the closest thing I can come to are swings. I can still swoop through the air with the wind rushing into my face and making my hair fly all everywhere, and I still get that exciting thrill and flutter in my stomach. Someday, I will fly, but for now, I'm content with swings; especially the big ones.

Movies are amazing. They have such big impacts on people today. It's incredible how movies can change a mood, give you a second thought about something or just give you the satisfaction of relaxing. But one problem is how down hill movies have gone. Movies really do have a impact on people and the way you think. It's something that you have to choose carefully. Now days it's not only the movies that are really bad that you have to look out for but the ones that imply things that are almost to small to notice. The ones that sneak in during the movie. But I guess there are always good ones from the past.

All day Monday and all day Tuesday I couldn't wait to watch the game yesterday. At the beginning of the game BYU was destroying and was up 17 at half time, but one of BYU's best players Kyle Collinsworth got in foul trouble. This gave an opportunity to the team BYUs playing ,Ole Miss, to make a run and they did exactly that and made a crazy comeback. Before I knew it they had taken the lead. BYU ended up losing the game which made me very sad, but it is very fun to watch them play and as a BYU fan is used to saying " we'll get 'um next year"!

I procrastinated and did not post yesterday’s Slice of Life until today! My forgetfulness reminds me of a quote I read in a book I recently finished called “David Copperfield” by Charles Dickens. In the beginning of the book we find young Davy Copperfield conversing with his friend Mr. Micawber in a friendly supper conversation. Mr. Micwber is a jolly, yet wretched man who is in deep debt. He gives Davy a piece of advice that will last with him forever by telling him to”…never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time. Collar him!”
I have come to know of the verity of this quote and am ever striving to stand by it. I have done my best, yet still fall many times (today, for instance). Procrastination is the thief of time and we will all do well to guard against him!

  65. Today was full of different emotions...The first being...its St. Patrick's day and I am super big into making my siblings believe in all the fun Holiday characters, so I decorated the house with tons of little things and I had to do all of this after the 7 little munchkins went to bed that took me from 10 until 1 am then the second event being my brothers 11th birthday...so I decorated his room but ribbons covering his door way so he couldn't get out of his room for a good 20 minutes... I made a rainbow and stuck in in a black bowl of gold coins I put our nice china out on the table so that he could have a nice breakfast when he woke up... today is also my half birthday. I will be 17 in exactly 6 months....

now the thing that is the most sad is that Ntim has to leave for a couple months.... and this is a sad things...him being a good friend and all but no matter, he will be back soon and we and many others will be able to make more funny memories together....

Ok so I was looking through my Google Drive and found this poem. (it's titled "A Poem") this is a shortened version because it's a lot longer than this.

well, I don’t know what to write.
I guess this poem will be short.
I don’t want my brains to get in a fight,
and end up going to court.

I guess I could write about cheese,
    or going on a walk.
I could write about knobby knees,
or just decide not to talk.

    while I’m pretty much stumped,
I think I’ll stop writing soon.
the thoughts in my brain are all crushed and clumped,
oh catch me I’m going to swoon!

oh this is just a waste of your time!
    you must be getting bored,
‘cause once again I can’t think of a rhyme,
this poem will end up ignored.

Anyway, that's what I usually feel like when I write a poem or anything really. :)

I was discussing this with a friend of mine this last week and it sounded a little deep, so I thought I would make it my slice of life for today.
Laughter is the key to the heart. The heart is a small room, inside your soul, where everyone hides their biggest dreams and darkest secrets. When you get close to people or even fall in love you let people into those places with the ability to shatter you, hold you together or watch you crumble.
The people everyone needs in their lives are the one that hold you together when you’re collapsing in, on top of them. They’re the ones that slowly fit the broken pieces back together even though they weren’t the cause of them. They’re the lifetime friends and true family bonds.
That’s the type of person that everyone should strive to be because if we all held each other up we would be stronger as a whole.

When you live in Texas, one of the worst things to experience is cold weather and rain. Because it is not cold enough to become snow. Snow for Texans who don't have to worry about driving, AKA children, is very exciting! But like I said this does not happen. So when you go outside there is no building snowmen. You simply get cold and wet, and that is not a fun combination.

I shuffle over to the back door and watch white balls of fluff weave a thin blanket, lightly powdering everything in sight. The springtime sprouts and sunshine are concealed by dark clouds and glittery forest. A smile spreads across my face as I giggle at my negative attitude. We have been so spoiled with a warm winter, now a little bit of snow seems like a blizzard. At least it melted by noon. :)

So Halloween was coming up and we thought it would be fun to get some body suits and wander around the mall to freak people out. We get to the mall and the first store we entered was JC Penny. We strutted past the perfume section while people stared at us, inquiring if something were wrong. After our fun in the JC Penny, my friends Jake and Paul decided it would be funny if we were to run down the mall’s halls screaming “toxic mold!! Run everyone! Toxic mold!!” People began to show interest rather quickly and began to question our presence in the mall. That when we heard someone shout “HEY! What are you doing!?” it was a mall cop dressed completely in black riding after us on his Segway. We attempted to escape at first; however, we then realized that it was futile and we gave up. The mall cop caught up to us and told us we had to leave the mall. This was a problem because we had told my dad to pick us up at three and it was only one. So once we exited the mall, we were forced to walk home, which was 3 miles away.

When I was about five or six years old I brought my little sister with my to my friend’s house; they lived just across the street. They had a pile of haystacks covered with one of those big blue tarps. And the inside of the tarp was freaking awesome it was all blue and it felt like we were away from the world, it turned into sort of a clubhouse. So we lay there on our backs with our legs in a ninety-degree angle to keep the tarp up. And then we started kicking because it looked cool all the flashing colors and the sound it was just awesome. After a little bit, I felt like we should stop, so I did. But my friend and little sister kept doing it so I started again. I got that feeling again, but I just kept going; and then, “THUD.” Some sort of metal pole came crashing down on all three of our heads. We all began to sob because of the agonizing pain. We all quickly scrambled out from beneath the tarp. My sister and I found our way home with tear stained cheeks. I felt so bad that my sister had gotten hurt and for some reason I thought my mom would be mad if she found out so I made an effort not to let her know what happened. But later that day she was brushing my sisters hair and noticed a huge goose egg on top of her head and asked me what happened. I immediately broke down in tears thinking that I was going to be in loads of trouble as I explained the story to her. Looking back now I have no idea why I thought she would be mad at me.

I hiked a mountain that was probably the hardest hike I have ever done in my life. Mount Kaʻala is the name of the tallest mountain of Oahu and I climbed it. Anyways I started at sea level or 0 ft I and our scout troop started hiking up this mountain and in Oahu it is humid and hot in the summer and we were in the jungle and it had mosquitoes. It was flat intill the first 100 feet then it almost went straight up we were rock climbing and falling and crashing into each other. We were 3000 feet up the cliffs got scarier as we rose up. We had to climb giant boulders that was 30 feet tall and a small path with risk of death around the corners. I saw one of our guys from the scout troop almost die! He tripped and almost fell into the hole with a horrible 3500 foot cliff waiting to kill someone. We were close to the base at the top of the mountain it was a swamp and it had 1 foot of mud because my whole leg was swallowed by the mud. We set up our tent and it had a porch and it could hold 8 people. At night it was very foggy and I could barely see my hand in front of my face. It was morning and my face was soaked from the fog. We came down and it is harder than you think! It was muddy and holes that you could twist your ankle on. I was in front of the group and didn't know that there was mud and holes. I fell down 20 times and fell into 20 holes. Then there was giant 100 foot wall of rock that we had to climb and we only had a rope there was a cliff and my right side! There was a small sand path that we had to cross there was a rope but I could fall into the 4000 foot cliff and you know I didn't fall off the cliff because I am talking to you right now! I was so close to falling off my water bottle fell down the 4000 foot cliff I was scared but I came back up and held the rope like the iron rod. There was this California grass and it has these white thorns and it had a maze out of it and I thought it was crazy! It had rocks and logs on the trail that you could trip on because you can barely see your feet in the maze. At least we had smooth ground the rest the way down but it was 4 miles long. We went down the mountain and walked 2 miles on the road and we saw our parents with their cars and with the Huge dinner. I felt an awesome feeling that I can do anything and I am not scared of heights anymore.

    Chris signing off.... Bye!

Tuesday. I really wish people understood how much God loves them. For most of my life I didn't love God as much as I feared Him. The main reason for this is that I am the kind of person who doesn't just accept the things I want to hear. Usually this serves me well but not in this case. I was always told He loved me but all I could ever think of was harsh judgment. I was reminded of His true love by a song I was referred to the other day. Its called Drops in the ocean by Hawk Nelson. I'm not very good at expressing feelings so I just want anyone who has taken the time to read this to go and listen to the song.

As I am practicing the harp, I play a particular song that really connects me to the music I am playing. When I start the first measure, the background sounds shut off in my head. I feel as if the world only contains me and my harp. As I play the next few measures, I try to think of a story that could go along with the musical piece. I imagine a waterfall cascading softly down a mountain when the notes in the music create a beautiful melody down the strings of the harp. The music changes and I begin to think of a problem. Maybe the waterfall went dry? A poisonous liquid was poured at the top of the waterfall? My mind goes racing as my fingers race playing the minor and intense chords. But, then again, the notes change the music and I think of a battle between good and evil. One measure is minor; the good is losing. The next measure is major; the good recovers and begins to overthrow the evil. The sound and intensity escalades and I think of the battle getting worse and worse. But then, the good overcomes the evil! The waterfall cascades down again as the music is repeated. And for about a page of the piece, beautiful and light music is played and I think of peace. I think of peace in nature; peace in a kingdom; just peace. Everything is going well. But then, all of the sudden, the music immediately gets fortissimo and minor and heavy chords take over the rest of the page. The villain has returned! And the villain is stronger and more furious than ever. Again, a battle takes place in the intense notes that I play on the harp. But, as always, good wins; and, again, music notes are repeated to make the thought of a beautiful waterfall flow lightly and peacefully down the mountain once again. The music gets softer and softer, until the last measure of the piece is filled with light chords played with almost no sound.

I finish the song, and the background sounds start up again and the world re-appears in my mind with all of its things in it. My mind is a little strained from thinking and playing so hard, but I have truly felt a connection with the music. That's what I love about music. Music and I are one!

I don't think most people pay attention enough to their senses other than sight. The other senses are useful, especially when you're in a situation when you can't see well. Or, your other senses can be used when you don't want to use sight. For example, I may not look to see who's coming down the stairs, but I know it's my dad because of his heavy footsteps. Conversely, I can tell when my mom is coming down the stairs because her footsteps are more fluid and light. I think we also need to pay attention to our noses. When my older sister was 3-4 years old, mom and dad nicknamed her, "The Nose." The reason for the nickname was because if any sort of chocolate was opened in the house, even privately in a bedroom, my sister would be able to sniff it out and ask if she could have some candy. If we paid more attention to all our senses, perhaps we could get some pretty sweet rewards.

I like ties. Not only do they have awesome patterns, but they can be tied in a myriad of way. The cool knots are lesser known than the regular looking tie knots you see. Some look like a braid; another looks like a tie wearing a tie; others look like flowers. It's awesome! It allows versatility with your ties. Though I can now tie complicated knots, I remember when I couldn't tie a basic knot. I needed my Dad or older brother to tie it for me. Sometimes, I thought I had learned the knot, only to try it on Sunday and "knot" be able to do it(Get it?). I also like regular knots for practical purposes. I do not know a large variety of knots, but I know basic knots and lashings. Knots are fun to do. As with tie knots, these other knots took practice to sink them into my brain. Practice makes perfect, so they say, and it applies to everything. Anything can be learned, so don't give up.

  101. Imagine floating in space. No helmet. No suit. Just floating. Although there isn't one, imagine a snall breeze on your forehead. Wisps of smoke floating by. The occasional shooting star. Too bad I'm stuck here on Earth.

  102. I rode horses in Hawaii with my sister and her friend. It was so much fun! We got to herd up some cattle and then we rode to the top of this small mountain. The view from up there was incredible. Afterward we played with these adorable little baby goats!

One of my favorite quotes is “When life gets too hard to stand, Kneel.” When life gets busy and difficult, prayer and other good habits often get pushed aside. Prayer is such an amazing place of refuge and strength and it’s ours for the taking if we are willing to put the work in. It is such a simple thing to do yet it has such a huge impact on our lives.
