Slice of Life: DAY 19

Remember that you are writing a snippet of your life, a slice, not giving us the whole pie, so write well but write with brevity.

After you post your slice, strive to comment on at least three other slices.

How to get entries into the raffle at the end of the challenge:
  1. Post your slice here BY 9 PM (MDT). For each time you post, you get an entry.
  2. Comment on other slices at anytime throughout the challenge. For every five thoughtful comments that you make, you get an entry.
  3. Slice every day for the entire month (31 days), and you will get an entry into a special drawing.

  1. One of the benefits of staying up late to make sure grades are as good as they're going to get is getting this top spot that has become highly coveted since the slice of life challenge began. I'm thinking that it gives me the will to keep going for at least another thirty minutes or so. Possibly. I guess we shall see how good, bad, or ugly things are for me tomorrow trying to be my amazingly vibrant, non-boring English teacherly self.

    P.S.

And I just want to say one more thing that is totally non-academic:

HAHA! I totally got the top spot!!!

But, the people who can take those sheets off and show a little bit of there childlike selves from time to time, those are the people I love and admire. Those are the people I wish to be more like.

    $ --- $
That is basically it, the $ are wheels, and the top it the front. There was some pretty cool cars, and my dad got to name them. Mine is the "Red Razor". There was a block of cheese with a mouse caught in a mouse trap on top, like a REAL mouse trap, with a squeaky mouse toy caught in it, my dad called it "Rodenator". There was a car that was a black wedge with KTM written in orange, the letters were popping out of the car, so it was still arrow-dynamic, but looked awesome, my dad called it "King of The Mountain". For those of you that don't know what KTM stands for, it is of Motocross bike. There was an orange truck, and my dad called it the "KTM Hauler". He called a fast white wedge with a curve up at the back, "White Chocolate". Ok, here are the results. Third place was a red humb called "The Scab". Second place was "White Chocolate". And last but defiantly not least, First place was The Red Razor. Yep, I won. The 3rd place prize was a small pack of kit kats. 2nd was a snickers. 1st was a king sized Hersheys! It was awesome!!!

Harry Potter is one of the greatest literature works ever, and is additionally a great source of humor. One of my favorite funny quotes is from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and is the words of Sirius Black to Severus Snape, when they are in the Shrieking Shack. The quote is, " Why don't you just run along and play with your chemistry set?!" This quote isn't even THAT hilarious, but to me and my sister it is very funny. I love this quote because my sister and I started saying it to each other and when we would be in a little argument, one of us would sometimes say that and we often would laugh about it and be friends again. For Christmas last year, my sister gave me a chemistry set. It was so funny! She told me that now when she tells me to go run along a play with my chemistry set, I actually can! Haha. It was so funny.

You guys, guess what!? I was SUPER bored one day, so I decided to go through every AM station on the radio. Besides the 89 different stations of white noise, I found this cool station that plays all these oldies songs! That was pretty awesome as it is, but I was listening to it late one night, and it was talking about how every night from 10:00-12:00 PM, they have all these old stories, mysteries, and comics over the radio!!!!!! It has Superman, the Green Hornet, and every other super hero you could think of, all read over the radio!!! The radio station doesn't read it, because they actually have the recordings from the 30's to the 60's! That is what I fall asleep to now, and it is freaking amazing. Its AM 1400 by the way, and it is in Utah. You should totally go check it out!!!!!

I think I'm experiencing writer's block. I'm sure a lot of you go through the same thing occasionally when you write, here is Wikipedia's exact definition:Writer's block is a condition, primarily associated with writing, in which an author loses the ability to produce new work or experiences a creative slowdown. The condition ranges in difficulty from coming up with original ideas to being unable to produce a work for years. Throughout history, writer's block has been a documented problem.[1] Professionals who have struggled with the affliction include author F. Scott Fitzgerald[2] and pop culture cartoonist Charles M. Schulz.[3] The research concentrating on this topic abounded in the late 1970s and 1980s. During this time, researchers were influenced by the Process and Post-Process movements, and therefore focused specifically on the writer's processes. The condition was first described in 1947 by psychoanalyst Edmund Bergler.

Yup. Definitely writer's block. I literally just wrote about not being able to write, then I copy and pasted a section on not being able to write from Wikipedia. This is an all time low for me.

This post is in response to Caleigh's. Thank you dear cousin, but I am sure I am not as delightful as you might have previously anticipated. My words simply fall from my mouth without rhyme or reason! No matter how dreadfully hard I attempt, in any time or season. My words are just bitter and plain and unwanted. No one hears what I have to say, for I cannot captivate them with the dull and miserably boring words with which I so unknowingly speak. To furthermore prove my point, I shall write one of my dismal poems to my dearly mistaken cousin.

This is a poem that sounds really lame
cuz no words come to my brain. (cuz my brain is lame)
That's why I am no gooder

  13. I have a memory from when I was about seven turning eight. It was Christmas Eve and in my family we don't put presents under the tree; each of the kids gets an armchair and you set them out in the family/living room and the next day "Santa" puts your preasents on your chair. It was almost time for bed and I was in the living room, being a very stupid child I had decided that it would be fun to stand up on one of the chairs in the living room and jump over to the other chair. When I jumped I tripped over the armrest of the chair and face planted into the floor. As a child I had a very high tolerance for pain which I'm sorry to say I lost through the years ( as in when I stub my toe I collapse in the ground; convinced that I'm going to die there). When I stood up I saw my nose was bleeding and I though I should probably tell my mom about the incident. My mom was standing to the kitchen getting a glass of water. When I walked in I turned off the lights, crept up behind my mom and tapped her on the shoulder and whispered, "See my blood?"
    She screamed.

While on the other half I put extra mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and black pepper sprinkles. When I finally get my pizza I breathe in the delicious mouth watering smell. Once I soar above the clouds maybe I will see that the cocoon was simply preparing me, for above in the clouds I realize my doubts have only been helping me to grow and bloom into the butterfly I hope to be.

Ah…. Spring Break! Oh how I love thee. Thou givest me mine rest from school, and grants me sweet relief. But… Once thou hast come, I see my friends not as oft, and sadness grips my soul. How bitter sweet are you my friend as much as you’re mine foe. Why does my dwelling have to dwell so far from all my friends’? I live many miles away from them, miles and miles away. While most of them are far away in Pleasant Grove, Orem, Mapleton, etc. When me – alone – Live here in Sandy. Oh Sandy! Solitude thy name is cruelty! Why doust thou torture me so? Though… I do love to climb the maple tree out front and swing my feet a long way from the ground. Without a worry or a care, I feel the wind blow through my hair, and bring a smile to my face. Spring Break. I’m not sure if I love thee or hate thee… and so, I’ll call another day. :)

But, humans never use it properly. Ninety-nine percent of the time, we ignore the warning labels completely and instead, jam them deep into our inner ear possibly causing damage. Time and time again we’ve been warned about the dangers of sharp objects in our ears, but we continue to do it none the less.
I have decided to stand up and lead the revolution against the insertion of q-tips into our ears.

    2. Be friends with somebody from Texas

I totally jinxed it. I currently live in Texas, and have friends here, marking 1%2 off the list. All that’s left is number three. I have like ten years before that happens though.

I literally have no desire for food or water or sleep when I have it in my hand. I was addicted, and didn't know how to stop. On top of that, my sprained ankle has gotten worse. I probably shouldn't have worked myself too hard during soccer practice, or I should have prepared better before the season even started. I was overjoyed to find that I had over a week for my ankle to heal, because next week is spring break! I am going to have ice on my feet at all times, even when I am writing my argumentative paper, or any other homework for that matter. My mom got me soft pads to put in my soccer shoes, to help me with my ankle, and I am so grateful for that. My mom says that an arch of a foot acts as a spring when running, so it absorbs the shock when your foot hits that ground. Apparently my feet don't have as much of an arch, and that is partly why they are hurting.

    * When I say "Rubik's cube" I mean my 2x2 Rubik's cube. I don't like solving the 3x3 that much.
    ** Ditto

In one of my previous slices, I talked about the key to happiness. I want to add something to that:

GET TO SLEEP ON TIME!!! I learned this the hard way, and hopefully I can get back on a good sleeping schedule.

A year ago I did the hardest thing in my life so far.... It was the ordeal of the Order of the arrow. If you don't know this it is a Boy scout event that you go to. But you have to be elected to go to the ordeal by your Boy scouts in your ward. First you sleep outside with no tent and you only have a tent and a tarp. Its not too bad when its not raining. But here in Hawaii it rains almost every day. We went to sleep at midnight and then it started raining and I couldn't sleep then my body shut down finally and then I woke up and I realized I only slept 2 hours! We followed the leader and we couldn't talk for the rest of the day. We had breakfast and it was 1 egg and a orange and that is all. Then we went to the Shed and got our hacksaws and started cutting down trees to make a path though the jungle. I am not kidding I got at least 100 mosquito bites on my legs and my arms. It is so humid and hot and the jungle it felt like i was in a desert and I was soaked by sweat and it was salty and my legs were itchy. Then we had lunch and ate a sandwich that was half the size of my hand. Then we kept working then the leader said we were done. I looked at my watch and we have been cutting down trees for 9 hours!
Then we had dinner and ate rolls and turkey and I had triples! Then we went to the ceremony to get our Order of the Arrow
and it was the most amazing and hardest thing i have ever done in my life so far and I hope I have an awesome experience like this one!

  29. When I was a little younger, my cousin and I got permission to go to the mall! Surprisingly our dads were fine with us going to the mall by ourselves, but our moms were a little more protective. So they compromised with us that we could go in some shops alone as long as they could follow us from a distance. We didn't have any money and our moms weren't going to buy anything for us, so were made a game where we would go into shops (usually expensive ones) and would pick out a whole outfit. After we picked it out (a blouse and jeans or a dress usually with a hat and some of the highest heels we could find) we would go into the dressing room and try on our outfit and have a mini fashion show and see who won, then we would check all the price tags and see who got the most expensive outfit. After that we would go on to the next store. After a while our moms noticed and made us stop. Even now we have to convince them we wouldn't do something so silly as that. This story is kind of weird but it is a fun memory I like to look back on.

Lots of people think that when we neglect Christ when we are going through trials, it is because we did it on purpose. "I don't need Christ", "He does not know what I have gone through", ect. Although this happens frequently, it is not the only case. Admittedly, I have gone through this other form of neglectance.
Some may think that I must have a reason for my accidental neglectance of Christ, and obviously I did. I was, at the time (one, two weeks ago), distracted by many things, the choir I was in, school, so on and so forth. As I was going through this time I was reasonably stressed (similar to stepping on a rubber band and pulling the other end over your head). As I was going through this, Christ was quickly slipping out of my mind (now you are caught up to three or four days ago). Until about last night I was racked with stress. So what happened last night?
I remembered Him, and as I remembered Him, my problems seemed silly and strange.

"We're supposed to be dying." She reminds me. I nod and retrieve my shinai. Despite the rain, the mud, the leaves and grass all over me and the poncho that makes me look like a LOTR character and the fact that I just 'died', this is the most fun I've had all day. I don't regret the rain; I don't grudge it. It's cool, and it makes the green in the world stand out. The mud and the leaves will wash off in the shower when I get home, and the poncho only gets caught up with my shinai every so often. 'FUTURE MISSIONARY'. Ever since I got it, I never have taken this wrist band off. It has been almost 7 years now, coming up in July. I made it a goal to wear it until my mission. Thus far, I have been committed. The time for my moment of frustration arrived. Yesterday was the first soccer game. Then I was told that in a soccer game we are not allowed to have anything on our wrists or hands! How was I to keep my record? Then I had a "brilliant" plan. I will just transfer it to my ankle without it ever leaving my body. To do this, I went and sat down, took of my shoe, grabbed my foot and carefully stretched the wrist band off my hand and on to my ankle. Now, my ankle and my wrist are not the same size. I quickly figured this out when I could no longer feel my foot due to lack of circulation. Yeah. . . the story ends with me deciding that it is worth it to risk being benched and transition it back onto my wrist.

  37. There is no definition for Jordan!!

When I was in fifth grade, I had an assignment from my teacher that I had to create a poster with the definition of Jordan on it. I literally spent hours trying to come up with a definition of myself. Quite frankly this totally failed. I beat myself silly with everything that I was gonna use to define myself.
So, on night before the project was due I wrote a secret message on a poster, hid it from my mom and gave her a "fake project" instead. When I got up in the morning and went to school, I threw away the stupid poster and pulled out my surprise poster.
What makes this story better is that we had to present these definitions of ourselves to the entire class. When it finally reached me, I really gave them this whole story of trying to find the definition of me. At the end I said something like "Without further ado, the definition of Jordan Bennion." Everyone's reaction were positively priceless. I had written in big huge block letters, "THERE IS NO DEFINITION OF JORDAN!!!" Mine had the least on it and was treated like the worst one. Amazing right :p

So yesterday, I lost my wallet; I couldn't find it. I searched all throughout the house but it was nowhere to be found. This wallet was very special because it was the first wallet I have had that has broken the 100$ in cash limit. When I lost it, I felt all of my savings had gone down the drain. But then, today when I went to get an appointment for my Driver's License, I saw it just on the floor of the car right below me. I had thought about checking the car the other day but had forgotten since all my family told me it was gone and there was no way I was going to get it back. Well now I have it in my possession and I hope I don't lose it. The spirit helps to bring to our remembrance the small and simple things that seem almost insignificant yet has such a meaning to us. The very next day I told some of my friends and the office about but they didn't announce it over the speakers. I went home and my parents told me to make it big because spring break is this very next week. So today I went to the office first thing and told everyone about it. When the first bell rang they announced that a phone was missing and if they knew where it was they need to turn it in. As the day went by I told more and more people that my phone was lost and it was a black samsung t-mobile flip phone. The office announced it one last time that a phone was missing. My mom showed up in her white car and I had to go. I talked to my mom in the car about getting a new phone, a sliding keyboard phone and she said I had to buy it with my own money. I was a little mad because I wanted to save my money for more important things like for a mission or for college.

So Wednesday I had, "Tap" class. I started tap last semester so I haven't reached the title, "Pro" yet. When I first started tap it was harder than I thought it would be. I was struggling to enjoy it because it was so stressful; I just didn't get it. Everyone else seemed to get the steps down but I was still confused. In tap its all about rhythm and timing; it's important to stay together or it just sounds off. So last semester was a little rough but I learned a lot.

So this semester we are learning our recital dance for our upcoming performance. The song we are doing it to is,"Jail house rock" by Elvis Presley. When I first heard this I was super excited!! (My dad raised me to love Elvis Presley and so of course I'm excited about this song.) It's been really fun to learn this dance because I get to ad my own personality into it. My little sisters and I are actually really good friends. I have 3 younger sisters, namely: Torrey Elaena, and Emily. I love them! What we love to do together is make movies on our iPad. Today, we are making what we call a "Mocking Reality." That is when we take a reality show on TV and then we re-enact it, but do it in a really dramatic, ridiculous way. So right now, we are in the process of filming a 'Mocking Reality' of "Toddlers & Tiaras!" It's been a lot of fun! I am the makeup artist for all of the films, and I had a really fun time making my sisters look all over-the-top sparkly with a pound of makeup on their face and their hair as big as the sea... Making the movie really made me think of the little girls who actually do pageants. It think that it's so sad that at such a young age, they're taught by their mothers that beauty is everything in their world. That's just setting themselves up for complete failure when the toddlers grow up! I'm so glad to live in a family that is taught the gospel and to know that it's not what counts on the outside; but it's what's on the inside that really counts.

Holidays are still fun now, but now that I'm older all the magic has just slowly faded away. And now all I can think of to say when my mom asks me what would make the holiday special is money. #Life of a Poor Teenage High School Student.

  61. I'm so excited for Spring Break! I love it when I get to sleep in! I am looking forward to just sitting at home. It's so nice not to always have to be running! I think that it would just be nice to go on four-wheeler rides, hikes and just kind of be care free.

  62. Sometimes you'll never know
    the value of a moment
    until it is a memory.
    - Dr. Seuss

This quote made me think of all the fun memories I have with friends and family. At the time I didn't realize how important that moment would be to me, but I personally think that some of those times are the best memories.

All day everyday I've been craving donuts, I don't know why. I've had some quite a lot this month but, I just can't seem to get enough. Sometimes I like to wonder if theres someone in the world with my same problem. Donuts make everyone happy especially me!

    1. I am a strange exception when it comes to donuts. I do not like them very much, but that makes my friends happy because I give mine to them. It is always good to find things that make you happy. Even little things like donuts!

  64. Well, couldn't get that into my account. I am planning to put money in my account and get him $5 worth of stuff. TF2 items are fairly cheap. This is too short so let me tell you about the time i pwned an entire team. It was CTF. My team was 2 captures away from winning and the other team was naught but one capture away. So i ran in as the engineer (low HP not very strong guns) and ran in, not even stopping for common sense. I ran in and they all fell, like freakin flies.Actually i just kind of walked in and took the flag. And won the game and became a hero.

One time I put off writing a paper until 2 in the morning the night before it was due. It was really stressful. Another time I planed in advance and had no problem writing my paper. It was nice.

Ance. Most teenagers get it at some point or another in varying degrees of severity. Some teenagers get really freaked out if one pimple pops up. To them, I say, "hah!" If they think one pimple is bad, they should try having lots of them. I have always had a moderate amount of acne, but it rarely bothers me. In fact, I was so unconcerned with my acne that I only started treating it because my parents nagged me. While now I am more concerned about my appearance now, I still don't freak out about my acne. I would be pretty miserable if I didn't accept the fact that I had acne. I will probably have acne for the rest of my teenage life, so I shouldn't let it embarrass me to the point that it affects my self-confidence

  69. I was just thinking about what I should write about and my patriarchal blessing came to mind. Well lately I've been wondering who I am, why am I hear, and what am I going to do in life. As i come to think of these questions I turned to my blessing. I love my blessing SO much, it gives me such a good feeling and knowing what I am hear and what I have to live for. It's amazing!

It was the week my final was, I knew I needed to be studying. I just really didn't want to study, so I put it off all week, till the day before the final. So I went through all of my flash cards once for my final. I walked into my class that morning thinking there was no way I was going to pass with a B or higher. During the final I was thinking yeah I'm doing ok I'll get C. I then came up to a question worth a lot of points, I started to answer it. After I finished my entire test and turned it in I realized I had only answered half of the question, I thought well I'm going to fail. It took them three weeks to post scores. As I was looking down the list, I saw the top score was 93% I kept looking and saw the second best was 92% I didn't see my name on the paper at first which means I failed it and would have to retake it. I looked one more time and realized that I got 92% on the test, I was so excited.

People want to find the place where the "grass is greener". They think there is a place that is better than where they are. Thus can be true. However, if they aren't grateful for what they have at the moment, they will always be looking for something better than what they have; they will never be satisfied. When we go around to other places, we should be grateful for the beauty we have seen to appreciate the new beauty we will encounter.

  73. In the scriptures a man came to Jesus and said something like "My daughter has died but if you touch her she will live." I realized he didn't ask this as "Can you heal her?" but as "You can heal her and make her live again." That's a lot of faith that I think we should have.

  74. I was in California with my family and we went to the beach. I was wandering down the beach looking for seashells when I stumbled across a starfish. It was huge. It was purple and half alive so I picked it and and carried it back to my family to show them. My uncle took pictures and then threw it back into the water. It was the size of my head, no joke.

I’m so thankful for music. Like really thankful. Whether I’m listening to it or playing it, music just has a way of clearing the mind. It is one of the most relaxing and comforting things on the planet. It also has a way of bringing the Spirit into a room in a matter of seconds. Every now and then you just realize how thankful you are for simple things like music, and what a difference it makes in your life.
