Slice of Life:
ReplyDeleteYesterday I went to the Lamb of God performance. The spirit was so strong, and the music was absolutely beautiful! One of the things that made my day; however, was that Daniel Beck played the role of Peter in the performance. He is one of my all-time favorite singers, and he lived in our ward while we lived in Lehi for two years. I got to talk with him after the performance, and it was so cool! He has one of the most amazing singing voices ever. Afterwards, my dad took us to Rita’s. Rita’s is a frozen custard and Italian ice place. I got this thing called a Galoti, which is basically a cup with custard on the bottom, (pretty much ice cream,) then the Italian ice, and then the custard swirled on top. It tastes amazing!
That was my Slice of Life for the day, signing off!
I think I need some gelato now, thanks to you! I love Italian food and treats. Thank you for sharing!

DeleteDude! Drumming is my life! I would say that I spend more time with drums then I do with humans. Everyday as soon as I get home from school I head straight for my drum set. I find that I usually spend 4 to 5 hours on week days playing drums. On the Weekend I spend about 5 to 6 hours playing drums. I've broken about 20 different pairs of sticks, 2 of which I broke in a period of about 10 minutes last Friday. Do you know how annoying it is to be rocking out on drums, and then right when you're about to finish the song with a really powerful ending your stick breaks? Probably not... but it is sooo flippin annoying!
ReplyDeletePeace out.
Rock 'N' Roll!
You should look into more durable drumsticks. They might be more expensive, but if you break that many, maybe it would be less expensive in the long run. Just a thought. And this slice reminds me of my fun times in marching band playing crash cymbals in the drumline. SO FUN!

ReplyDeleteHi guys. It's my Birthday today. I normally am excited for my birthday, but today I'm not. I mean what is there to gain from turning 14? I get to move to Mia Maids, but all my friends except one are in beehives.
My best friend won't move up to Mia Maids until November. What else do I get? Well, I can go to dances now. Big deal, they're not that great. I'm in high school next semester, with our school that's not much of a change. There isn't even anything I'm looking forward to getting for my birthday, there's nothing I want. So I don't really feel all that happy today. But you know what? I'm going to be happy anyway. I have made a brilliant choice, on my birthday, since I don't feel like being the center of attention, I'm going to be as nice as I possibly can today. I will make someone else have a great day. That's the best present I can receive. So, happy birthday to me!
Happy Birthday KyAnne! I hope that you have a wonderful day!

That is a great goal KyAnne! Happy birthday. I hope that you have a fantastic day, and that wishes for today come true! :)

DeleteWHAT?! DANCES AREN'T GREAT? There super fun. You get to dance, snack, talk, laugh, clap, congratulate, and tap your foot to the beat. They make the night and help you get to know people without it being that awkward. If you can't dance, its still a great way to pass the time and get to converse with your friends. Dances are awesome.
I agree with Caleb. Dances are awesome!

DeleteDances are super fun!!! I went to my first one in February and I soooo did not want to go, but they end up being AMAZING!!! They are so fun!!! You will find yourself enjoying your first one. They really might seem scary at first, or seem boring, but trust me, they are so fun.
So, yesterday came as a huge surprise. Yesterday I competed in a State Wide Drama Competition. I competed in Musical Theater and had a scene with 4 others planned. We were pretty confident in it... But we had some extreme competition. I don't think any one of my scene partners or myself had any shred of confidence. We tried our best and two of our friends had some extremely good pieces.
ReplyDeleteSo when the awards ceremony came to be, we were all waiting there for our friends name to get called. When 3rd place came, the extreme competition from the other school got 3rd place. Then, one of our friends amazing pieces got 2nd. And then when first place came we were all expecting someone else. Then, we won :)

DeleteCongrats! That sounds so awesome. That happened once to me when I was in a original song completion last year. I entered, thinking that it would be a fun experience and that I wouldn't win anything, and then I got the "Judge's Favorite" award! I think that the best awards that you can get, are the ones that you least expect.
DeleteBeing so fancy has its rewards. End of discussion.
DeleteJordan, EVERYONE except you and the others in the bonnie and clyede piece knew that you would get first. It was no surprise when your names were called, we all saw it coming. We tried to tell you that you'd win but you didn't listen. :)

ReplyDeleteSince today is Sunday, I think that I am going to share one of my favorite scriptures, and what it means to me.
2 Nephi 4:28
Awake, my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, O my heart, and give place no more for the enemy of my soul.
This scripture means a lot to me because it brought me out of dark times of my life, and I also recite it when I am going through something difficult. It tells me to be happy all the time. Anyway, thats what I felt like I should share. Ok, bye
So powerful! I need to remember this one on the hard days. Thank you so much for taking time to share this today.

DeleteThat's reminding me of Alma when he wished he was an angel that didn't bear the weaknesses of mortality. He wished he didn't fall into the traps that the adversary set for him. Excellent scripture. Its small but packs a very powerful punch. Very effective...

ReplyDeleteLast night I went to competition at the Salt Palace, and my ride conveniently forgot to tell me that she couldn't give me a ride and just left, after about 20 mins of looking for her, I texted her and she said she had already left. So, here I am, 15 mins before closing, everybody had already left and gone home, and I'm stuck, alone, in Salt Lake without a ride, and to make things even worse, my phone died before I could call anyone. Temple Square was right across the street, so I decided to walk over there, I used the phone at the visitors center to call somebody to come get me. I walked around Temple Square for about 45 mins until my parent got there.
Oh my goodness! That sounds like a very scary experience. I'm sorry that you had to go through that! At least you're okay! :)
DeleteThat sounds horrible. Even as a grown up, I'd be very upset for awhile. I hope you're recovered from the shock of it today.

DeleteThat's happened to me once. Not as serious but I had a meeting with the bishop at church a couple years ago. When I went out, my family had already left. I began pacing all across the building but seeing as I have no cell phone, I just hoped they would realize I was gone and come pick me up. An hour passed and they still didn't come. Then, one of the counselors of the bishopric, seeing me in my despair, offered me a ride home. I wrote that down in my journal and still remember it.
I got stranded at a stake center 30 minutes from my Grandmas house. I had to wait half an hour for my dad to get me. Thankfully I had my cell phone charged. Your lucky you were right by temple square.

DeleteIn Texas I went to this camp out with the scouts. And we hiked this steep mountain and I got lost and they didn't know that I was lost and they left without me! I had to get off this 30 foot cliff with out dieing! I had a bungee cord that i was playing with for some reason and there was a tree that I could hook the almost falling tree off the cliff to me and the bungee and the tree went to about 25 feet and I jumped off 5 feet. Then I tried to find my way out of the camp I jumped over the fence and then I started walking 5 miles I went into a neighborhood for help. I finally found a house then called my parents and they came from 15 miles away and then I celebrated my birthday! That was my 12th Birthday for me...! LOL
-This post reminds me of the many times I thought I got lost in the grocery store as a child. It reminds me of the still many times in my young adult life that I still think I get lost in the grocery child. The most prominent memory that sticks out to me however is the time my parents couldn't find me and my little brothers at church. It was after a choir practice one Sunday. My brothers and I were playing the nursery room with all the other children waiting for choir practice to end. The only difference between my brothers and I and the other children is that all there parents came to pick them up except for our parents. After a lot of times other parents looked around the church to find my dad to no avail, I just told them that we could walk home. We have walked as a family many times to church because we could see it from our house and only lived a couple of minutes away on foot from the church. Even though other parents offered to drive us, we said we could do it, and walked home. When we got home, my mom answered the door and told my sister to call my dad who was looking for us at the church. This post brought that memory out of me. Wow, you are a good writer.
DeleteTomato soup with dumplings. My mother used to make this for dinner in the winter. I've never been fond of tomato soup, but for some reason those dumplings transform it into a delight. She worked her magic on the soup I think because my father loved tomato soup but none of us did.
ReplyDeleteToday, I decided to work some of my mother's magic. I needed some comfort food without having to spend a lot of time on it. Sundays are a day of rest for me. Like, I literally catch up on the rest I'm deprived of throughout the week. So as you can imagine, I fixed a batch of magical good stuff, got my blanket, and have been camped out on my purple sofa ever since.
That sounds amazing!

ReplyDeleteToday, we had a meeting with all of the Youth Family History Consultants. Of which I am one. We had about 9-11 out of 18 show up. And sitting on the table in front of us were sixty cookies. We all started indexing, like us family history people do. Everyone's eyes kept trailing to the cookies. Our conversations went something like this:
"I think that letter is a G. I want a cookie"
"I'm pretty sure it's a capital Z. I wish they'd let us have cookies now."
"Zilpah? What kind of a name is that? You should go convince them to let us have cookies now."
"Well Gilpah is a weirder name, so I think we should stick with Zilpah. Eating cookies would totally increase our righteous ability to index, but I don't want to go talk to someone about it."
It might not have been every sentence like this, but cookies were definitely on the brain. At the end, we all just took one or two cookies, then the guy in charge told us to take as many as we wanted. Everyone mobbed the cookies. The astounding thing is, we didn't finish them. I just got home from my meeting, and am regretting not taking more, because now I only have one left. But it's okay. Someone gave me their Starbursts, so I still have something to live for.

ReplyDeleteMy cousin is awesome! Yesterday we hung out for over 5 hours! How did this happen? It's a funny story actually. Usually after a couple of hours, my aunt comes and picks up my cousin. Yesterday we played some video games, did some other stuff, and then we watched a movie. At about the fourth hour that my cousin had been at my house, we started to wonder why his mom hadn't come yet. We joked that my cousin's mom thought that he was just down in his room and he wasn't at my house. About an hour and a half later my mom called his mom and my mom said that she was sorry she hadn't taken her son home yet. She replied saying something like this: "WHAT!!! He is still over there!!!!" Apparently my aunt thought she picked my cousin up a while ago, and he was down in his room or something!! I looked at my cousin and said something on the lines of: "I knew she thought you were just in your room!!!" This was just one of the many funny moments we had that night. When we drove my cousin home, my mom talked to his mom for 30 minutes, so we just goofed off and had the best time outside!!! We joked about things only cousins can joke about. The night was then concluded about 12 am. When we got home, I tried to convince my mom to let me do my slice so I could get the first comment, but she was too tired. Those kind of nights are just truly magical, and I hope it happens again.
That's hilarious! cousins are the best.

ReplyDeleteSo, a couple weeks ago, me and the other priests gathered in the Bishops office and commenced our lesson. Then, all of a sudden, I just felt this warmth and goodness flowing from within myself. At the moment I felt that, I said to myself "I want to feel this peace everywhere I go." It felt so good and relaxing that if I had been in my bed, I could have easily fallen asleep.
The Holy Ghost is a warmth that can only be taken in if we open our hearts to him. God wants us to be relaxing and always looking up to him. The spirit calms the mind, eases the muscles, and puts our spirit to rest. When we are whole with the father, he is able to send the companionship of the Holy Ghost so that we can be comforted in our discomfort. So what I have been trying to do to keep the spirit in me is glorifying the fathers name more and always trying to keep myself clean, no matter how many times I try. God wants us to be happy and he loves us very much.

ReplyDeleteToday has been pretty busy.
Last night my three year old brother was up all night and refused to go to bed. Therefore, my parents were up almost all night trying to get him to go to bed, and all the noise kept me awake.
Because of this, we all went to sleep and woke up late. By the time we finally made it out the door, we has missed most of church and I only made it to young women’s, where I got a cookie. I am very happy about my cookie.
After church we had to go to somebody’s house to barrow some clothes that I can use for trek that we have coming up in a couple of weeks.
Once my mom and I were done getting my clothes for trek, I took my little brother Cameron to the park while my mom was cooking dinner.
When we got home we ate our dinner of mashed potatoes and roast beef.
After dinner, we had to drive out to the subdivision where our new house was being built. All that was in the lot where our future house shall be is grass and dirt. Not very exciting.
Once we got back home, I skyped my cousins who live in Utah. I talked to them for two hours about food and all the stuff we had been up to lately.
Once I got off skype, I remember that I still had to do my Slice of Life, so here I am writing my Slice of Life for today.
After a long day, I am very excited to get some sleep.
This is what happens when I get bored in English class.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I would appreciate people telling me what I did wrong and how to fix it.
Their helicopter whooshed across the jungles of Umboi with enough speed to make a NASCAR driver jealous. The AgustaWestland AW109 flew at top speed heading to the company’s facility on the island, the CEO is in critical condition and they had to get to him and back to Lae in the short window they had before he bled out from his wounds. The medic in the back put on her headset and turned it on.
“How long until we land!”
“We got two minutes until we get to the landing pad”
The medic looked out the window of the chopper as it began to slow down as they approached the landing pad. The pilot spoke through his headset.
“We’re going down fast so hold onto your hats”
“Got it”
The pilot wasn’t kidding when he said they were going down fast and as soon as they touched down the chopper doors flung open and a man with on stretcher was brought in. The medic look at the man with his suit all bloody and with bloody bandages all over his body. The medic looked at the guy that came in with him as soon as he put on his headset.
“What happened to him”
“He got attacked by some wildlife”
With a jerk that make the CEO groan in pain the chopper began to speed off back to Lae. The medic had been to Umboi before as a little girl and had never seen an animal that could cause this kind of damage, there were lacerations all over his body. She checked his vitals like any first year medical student would, she paused counting, then sighed. His vitals were not the best but for a man his age they could be worse. She reached for some bandage to cover his leg when she noticed something odd.
“I need some pliers”
“Here”
She took the pliers from his hand and took the object from his leg. It was a tooth from what she couldn’t say but it would support their story on him being attacked. She took the tooth and put it on a tray to be looked at later and began wrapping up his leg but it was bleeding too much, his femoral artery was cut so she had to stop the bleeding.
“I need a tourniquet and some pliers now!”
The man handed her the tools and began praying in his native tongue. She ignored him, and tightened it above the artery and began to try to clamp it down. If this man was conscious he would be screaming however he wasn’t. She tried grabbing the artery but it went back into the body and that is when he died. His pulse stopped and his body gave out from the amount of trauma and blood loss he experienced. She sat back against the door of the helicopter and sighed.
“Record time of death, cause massive blood loss.”
The man did what he was told with a tear in his eye and handed her the notebook after he had done what she asked.
Where's the rest of the story? I'm hooked!
DeleteGood job! Keep writing stories like this and you could become a great author with that imagination of yours. Christopher Paolini, the author of the Eragon series, was 16 when he published his first book!
DeleteToday I got to give a talk in Sacrament meeting!! The last time I gave a talk was about three years ago; so I was kind of expecting that I would be giving a talk soon. My topic was "How do we serve God with all our heart, might, mind, and strength?" Or something really close to those lines.
ReplyDeleteThis morning was kind of hectic for me because I did what I do best and I procrastinated on writing my talk. But really, there was hardly any other time to type it up because I got assigned to speak last Wednesday night and then I was either at soccer or drama or somewhere else. So I didn't write my talk until this morning. I got up at 6:30, took a shower, and then sat down, did a little bit of research, and wrote. It took me about two and a half hours to get it finished. By that time, it was ten o'clock and I had fifteen minutes before I had to go to church for choir practice (my church starts at 11 o'clock). So I quickly got dressed, brushed and fixed my hair in about 5 min. Then it took about another 5 min. to get my scripture bag together, print my talk, and brush my teeth. I didn't have time to eat my breakfast, and so I was starving by time I got to Sunday School; fortunately, my Sunday School teachers love us and they brought no bake cookies to class. Mmmmmm, so good!!
My talk went well, I think. It didn't quite go as I had planned. I had planned on my bangs staying out of my face, not speed talk and read, and look up at the congregation more. But the sister missionaries spoke after me and they did a very nice job. Now I'm super tired because I've only gotten 6 hours of sleep each night for the last two nights and I've been up really early every morning this past week. But now it's Spring Break and I get to sleep in a WHOLE HOUR!!! Happy Day!!!!!!
Friends. They're there for you when you need them. They talk to you. They listen when you talk to them. They make you smile. They smile when they see you. They appreciate your sense of humor. They hug you when you need it. They accept your hugs and everything else about you. They share your interest in stuff. They introduce new things to you. They understand and relate so fully sometimes when no body else does. They call you or text you and cheer you up. They always answer the phone when you just need someone to be there listening. They're the one of the reasons you look forward to seminary, youth night, school, church etc. They're friendly faces that make even the strangest of places welcome. They lift you up past and through the storms of life. Friends. They're there for you when you need them.

ReplyDeleteI think one of the things that is most often forgotten, in a list of things we are all grateful for, is our health. It’s one of those things that we kind of forget about until we lose it. I personally fell into that rut before I got a small bug that was going around. I slept for 48 hours and just felt, dizzy, nauseous and awful. Without that experience though I wouldn’t have known the difference of being healthy and being sick, just as in this life we wouldn’t know happiness without trials. Trials are no picnic but they help us truly appreciate the good things in life and help us learn.

ReplyDeleteI’ve been really struggling with my math lately. It’s taking me way longer than normal to do one single problem and only a couple lessons take up more hours than I have time for in a day. Being homeschooled, it’s okay because my mom is usually there to help me with the problems. However, sometimes I still don’t understand it completely even with her standing there helping me. It’s hard, but I know that if I want to get into a good college and be able to teach my kids in the future, I need to learn how to do this. Sometimes the things we dislike the most in life are the most important. I think heavenly father made it this way sometimes so we would have to work for what we need and be able to push through something even if the reward isn’t quite what we wanted. It just makes me all the more grateful for the things that come naturally to me and I enjoy. (Posted to SOL on day 23)

ReplyDeleteI don't know what to write about today. My mind just can't comprehend something interesting to write about.
So I will write about what I did this morning. This will be boring.
We went to our church building to help unload ninety-nine 40 pound boxes of chicken that our YW and YM sold for this year's fundraiser. My dad was the one who did pretty much all the physical labor, while I played with little John Bradley and Gideon, who are 4 and 2. They were so cute. End of story.
Period 3
DeleteThat's okay. When my dad does physical labor, I help him out. I don't like to see him working alone. As a girl, some may say it is weird for a girl to work hard and do a mans job. When it comes to working with my dad, I work with him because there are no boys in the family. I am technically the tom-boy who works with her father.
Today we were sick, so we stayed home from church. My mom, siblings, and I pulled out a board game (The Farming Game) and played for hours. This game is really fun, but a lot like Monopoly where it takes a long time to finish. We finally had to stop to go to bed, but we left it out to continue tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteIf the savior stood by me, I would call him by his name.
If the savior stood by me, I would have asked for forgiveness.
He is my king, he is my ruler, he is my friend.
When I'm lost or lonely, I turn to him for strength.
I never need to say, where are you Lord?
Because he is always there.
Peace and comfort fare.
When I need him, I feel him. Just pray a little stronger.
But when I don't hear him, keep calm and believe that he is there.
Yes, He is there.
Now I just need to find a melody to put it to the test!
Do you think it has good lyrics? Perhaps I should fix it up a bit more.
This is my feelings about Christ and his infinite love.

Falling was the sensation Jill woke up to. Turns out she was indeed falling. She checked her watch eight hours had passed and she was still was falling. Continuously, forever it seemed that she would never hit the bottom. but when she did it hurt. She didn't hurt physically but in deep in her hart she felt pain like no other. She needed help and she got it threw Christ. She prayed and she prayed and she received. She repented and never fell again.

At this point of the school year I'm exhausted. There is something due every day and I feel like I have more homework then ever before. But I still have time to go to lacrosse and spend time with friends and family so that the bright spot! :)

DeleteI can relate. School has been really stressing me out but it's really nice to get relief through sports and family. :)
I love playing soccer. I do not think that I would play for any other school in Utah because my team reminds me of the Highland All Blacks. They are the #1 team in the USA for High School rugby. If you want to know a lot about their team watch the movie Forever Strong. Their team will not do anything that will dishonor their community, family or themselves. They don't drink, do drugs, they are kind to one another, and they are moral. Our team is like that.

ReplyDeleteI am so grateful for friendship. Friends are so important in life. Without the wonderful, loving friends I have today, I have no idea where I would be. They have changed my life in so many ways and make me a better person. Thank you everyone at liahona. This is for ALL of you. You have all made me smile even if it was just a simple hello. I notice you all and love you all.

ReplyDeleteFinally got the money in my account. It feels good to have those 10 dollars in there. make you feel accomplished. If I can contact my cousin I will give him whatever he likes with those 5 dollars i generously gave him.I haven't been able to contact him for a while though. This kind of scares me. We're totes besties. Not really though (the worried part). we do awesome things together. we play video games. We play epic video games. We have epic moments playing video games. Ok ok ok there isn't actually that much variety. But think of it like 500 pounds of bacon. Would you take something else? Didn't think so.

Some times sarcasm can go too far. People think there being really funny but sometimes it just plane out sucks. We cant let it get us down though the best thing we can do is just laugh and go along with it. because deep down they are good a friend. unless they are just plane stupid(usually they are not though) Good friendships are priceless.

ReplyDeleteDodge bow might sound scary but its not! We drove to my friend's house and he has a giant backyard and I walked down to the backyard and I looked at the arrows and they had foam on them and I had a feeling of relief! We practiced shooting the bow and I got a bull's eye on my first try! We put on our helmets and grabbed our bows and arrows. Then we started shooting our arrows and it was like paintball but less painful. I toke out 2 people and the arrows past my ears and I can hear the whizzing of the arrows. In the last round I was the last one and there was 2 on the other team and I was so close to winning but someone shot me in the neck! I loved dodge bow and hope I can do it again!
Chris Signing off!
Last year me and my family went to Mexico. We went to the same place for breakfast every day. It was our favorite place to go to. We also went on a sailboat. When we got on, there was no wind so it was a very long ride. After we got back we went snorkeling. They took us to an island and we went under a land bridge and to a little hole in the island. I thought it was really cool when we saw a whale on the sailboat.
ReplyDeleteWhat do I want to be when I grow up? This statement is kind of weird to me, and you want to know why? Well, let me tell you. When do we really grow up, when is that time of life when we can't choose what we want to be? If we ever put a number on the words "Grown up" how old do you think that they would be? I think that we can be what ever we want to be at what ever age we are. We don't have to be a "Grown up" to do what we love/want to do!

DeleteI think that that is so true! If you think about it you don't ever really have to grow up, right?!

ReplyDeleteLast day in utah for all of spring break! Me and my Dad are driving out to california tomorrow, to meet the rest of my family, and I'm really excited! First of all I love california! I love the beach, the waves, the sun and especially Disneyland! I also love going on road trips just me and my Dad! When me and my Dad go on road trips we get junk food and just hang out the whole time. It's always lots of and I cant wait until we get to go, just the two of us, on a road trip again!
So apples and peanut butter are one of the yummiest combinations known to man. I eat it pretty much every day. So good I want to cry. I love it so much! It is also very good for you! I am eating some right now! Heavenly.
