Humility is pressing on my mind today: what it looks like and the process that we go through to cultivate it within our hearts. It is multifaceted, and I am feeling the pinch of it, so I'm not sure how much I should write about it. But I will say that humility is a virtue I desire.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE bacon. I'm not the kind of person who loves it because it is trendy to have a bacon bedspread and bacon earrings, I love it because it is my form of ambrosia. (People who have bacon accessories, please take no offense to that comment. I respect you. We have something major in common. I was merely saying that to describe to you that I love bacon because of what it is and I don't advertise it. Does that even make any sense?)
I don't know what it is about bacon. It comes from the same animal as pork, ham, and other meats, but they are just not the same. The others don't even appeal to me, and bacon, well, I think I could eat it every day. I love bacon's smoked taste and it's crunch and it's just mouthwatering amazingness.
I think I shall learn how to can bacon. Is that even possible? Haha, I don't know what I would do without it in times of emergency. Well, no matter how gross canned bacon would probably be, I guess desperate times call for desperate measures. (Meaning if canning bacon is my last resort, I guess that must be done. Haha.)
The end. Long live bacon.

ReplyDeleteI’m going to write something random in old english. Hawken, this is for you.
O dismal day! O furious fate which hast cast down an evil spell upon me this day! Why must thou look for ways to undo my happiness? Thou hast sucked all light and hope from me. Thou infused my dreary life with mourning! Does thou find it amusing? Does your angry game fill your bowls with laughter? Why hast thou forsaken all righteousness, only to watch one pitiful mortal grieve with anguish? Dost thou find joy in mine own misery? O dreadful fate! Why, fate? Why hast thou torn apart my happiness for your own? Does it please thee to see my face contorted in despair? Thou dost feast upon my squalor, paying no heed to the wretched woe which does fill my bowls. My heart doth ache at the very thought of thee. Thou hast plucked away all hope from my life as a sparrow doth pluck up worms from the very ground I stand on. Why has thou forsaken me? Put my mind at ease once more, dear fate! Repent of thy evil and save me from hardship! Do unto me an good deed, to balance out the unthinkable throb of unhappiness that thou hast caused me.

ReplyDeleteI've been wanting another little sibling a lot for the past 2, or so, years. A little baby black boy from Africa. Or a little girl from China. Well anyone out of the country, I guess. Or a twin because that would be the best and the coolest thing ever. Preferably a boy twin, like Tony and his sister or the Mystery Twins; Mabel and Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls. The wanting of a boy twin started after the first episode of Gravity Falls... And all the time after it.
Hawken and my Dad just got home last night at around 10:00. I was so thrilled and excitement burst out when the waiting was over!! I jumped from the sidewalk as they came driving up the hill. I had missed them both so much and I just needed to see them again. It was only a little over a week but it was worth it to see them, and their tans/burns.
I have been longing for that twin for so long but then I realized, the "twin" was the guy I already had. Hawken is my real "twin" who I can always rely on, talk to, play with, and just be with. I love him so much and I learned, deep inside, that my twin was always here standing in front of me. :D
I wish I had a twin. I have a sister a couple years younger than me but she has down syndrome.

The topic of this slice is on my second best friend ever! His name is Pax, or bruh kitty, or bruh pax, or bruh paxel, or paxel. Apparently paxel is an antidepressant, and that is why his name is paxel, because he helps me to not be depressed. My second best friend is a kitty, if you didn't figure that out by yourself. He is one of the few friends that will put up with whatever I do to him. I can torture him, chase him, tease him, and he is fine with it. Why do some of his name variations have bruh in it? Well that would be my fault. Bruh is basically what I call people that I know really well. Sometimes the word bruh is an adjective. For example, sometimes I say something is so bruh awesome. I probably say bruh at least 5 times in a sentence. If you don't say bruh when you are talking to me, chances are I won't understand you, lol! Anyway, that is why I, and my whole entire family, call our kitty, bruh kitty, or bruh pax, or bruh paxel.
I hope you enjoyed my slice, and don't think I am too weird.

ReplyDeleteToday at Church the Young Men and Young Women taught Primary while the adults had a combined, two hour long meeting. It was CRAZY! I had forgotten how rowdy young kids could be. It got so bad in the class I was teaching that me and the other two young men helping me teach decided to take them outside. Wrong choice! The boys immediately proceeded to tackle each other and play tag. The girls were less bad… but still impossible to keep under control. Things got worse when I tried to quiet them down by bringing out some paper and crayons. One of the boy’s came up to me and asked me where my car was, I told him (wrong decision again), and he and his friends immediately ran over and taped notes all over the front windshield. Then the shyest one out of the group of girls comes up to me, taps me on the shoulder, than asks if she can “…run around the Church building.” I almost said “why the heck would you do that?” But thought better of it and let her do so. It was a crazy day!

Spring break will be over in about twenty-seven and a half hours :( I really enjoyed the break. It gave me some free time. I spent a lot of my time outside in my backyard. The weather was really nice this week. I gonna say that I'll miss spring break. I am excited for the summer to come. Not that I don't like school. School is amazing. I never imagined myself wanting to not have school. I don't quite know why I want summer break. I think this year, being my first year of junior high, I've been starting new things and getting harder work. It has been a kind of transitioning year and I've been getting a little stressful. I think next year things will run more smoothly. I guess I'll see what will happen.
ReplyDeleteCaleb A, DE, P3
DeleteThey say that the first year of junior high is the hardest school year in the schooling system. That is mainly because, as you've mentioned, the transitioning from elementary to the upper class. It is an entirely new schedule with new assignments and a heavier burden. But when junior high is over, school gets easier because you grow accustomed to the pattern and way of things.
Sorry, I meant 17 and a half hours. :)

ReplyDeleteAbout a year ago, my extended family and I visited our great-grandma that was in an elderly home back in AZ. She hasn't been doing well physically and we didn't know how much longer she would live. But we showed up at the home and asked the lady at the front desk if we could see her. When she came out, we saw her face just beaming and so happy that we had finally come to see her. Both her legs were swollen from being in the wheel chair, her hair was thinning out, and her skin was drooping off her bones, but we didn't notice all that. We only saw the expression of joy on her face.
Families are one of the most important things in this life. If you think about it, humans are the only species that have families that are always together; birds separate after a couple of months to a year and turtles never even see there parents. If it weren't for the family, we would almost unbearably feel loneliness and despair and we wouldn't gain nearly as much knowledge and love as we do in the family.
Wow… I have done so much today! I went to a homecoming for my close friends sister around nine. You can really tell the difference the mission has made in her life. She really glows with the spirit. Later at the after luncheon at their house, they had some of the most amazing food ever! I ate so much that I felt like I was going to explode! Shortly after, I went to the baby blessing for One of our friends. I'm telling you… That baby is adorable! Her name is Genevieve, and she has the cutest little face ever :-). Now I am on my way home and then I will be going to my cousins house for dinner. I don't know if I'll be eating much though :-).

DeleteAlso, not a slice of life, but how does one go about watching English and other Liahona classes live? Like, what are the steps to getting on live so that I can participate live with the class and other DE's?
ReplyDeleteThat's a very tough question, Caleb. I am not exactly sure how to answer that. I would call the school and have them add you onto this website called Telenect, and then you can watch the classes live and chat with other DE's. They just add your email to the list and then you make an account on Telenect. I am not fully sure how it works. I watch live every day but my mom did all the other stuff to get me ready.

Yesterday i went home teaching and i decided to teach the first presidency's youth message called victory through Jesus Christ for the lesson. It was a good experience and i felt like we should be reading the first presidency's messages and learn form them and follow their teachings.The teaching of the message said to do this: Consider asking those you teach what His Atonement means to them and how they have felt the Lord’s comfort during their “dark and bitter hours.” I got a lot of different and powerful answers. I hope that we will remember the Savior Jesus Christ and his redeeming Sacrifice and use his atonement to better our lives especially through this Easter week.

DeleteI love books, as I'm sure anyone who has read a couple of my posts this month can tell. Over my long and varied hobby, I've realized that it's amazing how much effect a story can have on you. For instance, today, when I got cold - because an AC vent is right over my bed - instead of grabbing a sweater, I pulled on my silky dressing gown. What had I been reading lately? Sherlock Holmes. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is due to certain audiobooks and the Redwall series that I can impersonate a Scottish-ish accent. My fear of amphibian exhibits at the zoo comes from Harry Potter, I'm sure. After finishing one of the original Robin Hood stories, I could speak in pretty authentic Olde Englishe for a few days; and I still go back and read a couple of pages of dialogue to refresh my mind whenever I'm writing a part in one of my stories that requires the antiquated language of that grahnd olde tym. My hair reaches past my waist because of the favorite characters of my 11-year-old self. (It was then that I began to grow it out.) Magic Treehouse books affected my love of animals and perception of times and peoples. And the Standard Works have effected many people's lives in many, many different ways.
As I thought of these few and random ways that stories have impacted my life, I wondered which stories have unconsciously changed me. I'm sure that it would astonish me if I knew all of them. Think of a rock in a stream. Everything it bounces across ultimately effects the rock. The same goes with us, in life. It is highly important to choose your stream wisely, and bounce even more cautiously :)
Caleb A, DE, P3
DeleteHaha... Sherlock Holmes...
This is an outstanding, superlative, exquisite slice. Books change us like what a coat of purple paint does to Sister Jackson's wall. It leaves an imprint on our lives and perspective. When we spend so long reading a book, we are adopting a new life into our minds that will inevitably have a good consequence.

DeleteI tend to quote books that I'm reading, or make text-to-self connections out loud to my family. When I was in the middle of Harry Potter, I'd use a pen, or get a stick from my yard, and point it at my siblings. I would generally be saying"Expelliarmus!" or "Stupefy!" Then when I'm reading a different story, I start quoting that. It's a good thing that my family knows I'm like that.
I did that exact same thing when I was reading the Harry Potter series Erin...

ReplyDeleteToday, we reviewed the Atonement in Sunday School. We talked about the whole story, seeing how Easter is next week. We watched a video called the Lamb of God. I find it very hard to watch what my Savior and Redeemer went through for me. It makes my heart hurt to see him beaten and hung up on the cross. This week we were told to share our testimony of the Atonement through social media, and since this is the only social media type thing that I do, I decided to share it here. I know my Savior lives, and that he wants me to return to my Heavenly Father. I know he suffered in Gethsemane for everyone of us, and because of that, we can be saved through mercy and grace. I love knowing these truths. I love my Heavenly Father. Amen

We are not perfect, we all make mistakes! I am so thankful for the gospel and that we have it in this earth today!
Wise words! :)
Delete-This post reminds me of the passion people have for looking more intentionally at the things around us. When watching a conference talk, different people take away different things from the same talk. And that's because God wants each individual person to take away something different. You have learned this because you took away a deeper meaning then the original story has told you.

And I wept both night and day,
And he wiped my tears away;
And I wept both day and night,
And hid from him my heart's delight.
So he took his wings, and fled;
Then the morn blushed rosy red.
I dried my tears, and armed my fears
With ten-thousand shields and spears.
Soon my Angel came again;
I was armed, he came in vain;
For the time of youth was fled,
And grey hairs were on my head.

ReplyDeleteI am short. Many people don’t believe I am 17. When I meet new people I enjoy asking them how old they think I am and when I tell them my real age, their faces are hilarious. It used to bother me that I was so short. My sister always said that it was a good thing because then I could get the best hiding places in Hide-and-Go Seek. Like I play that every single day (I am saying this sarcastically btw). I have learned it is who I am and I wouldn’t change it.
One time at Disneyland (I think), I wanted to go on some of the rides. My parents were annoyed because some would let me in and then at the same rides when we went back they wouldn’t! So my dad went out and drove and looked everywhere for those sketcher shoes that added like an inch or so. Then the next day I was wearing my brand new shoes and we went on one of the boat rides. I get ready to get in the boat and… MISSED!!!! My foot landed in the water and my shoes were ruined! The good thing to come out of it was that I got new shoes for free. There went all my dad’s hard work and my chances of riding any of the rides I wasn’t tall enough for before.
I love Cold Stone ice cream. My favorite kinds of ice cream are cotton candy, and banana strawberry mango sherbet. For my birthday we got a whole pint and 1/2 of cotton candy. It was gone in at least 48 hours. Which is pretty good considering I could have eaten the whole thing in one night. I had a good day at church and a fun rest of the day.

I started out small, making book covers in online editors, and went from there. I'm thankful for communities that introduce you to new things and people, whether they be online, or in real life.

ReplyDeleteStill. Can't Give. That. Grenade. Launcher. To my cousin. The frustration I feel is not unlike that of a soldier who has to pay for his equipment and after waiting a week for the money to be usable, still has to wait another week to use it to save himself as he is pinned down in a Siberian outpost with only 3 days worth of food. And 5 until a nuclear bomb goes off. And that is my poetic version of my frustration in metaphor form. The grenade launcher is also a strange killstreak so It's super extra special because it tells you how many people it's killed an your current killstreak. It's purty nifty.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was 10 we rode scooters down the street at blazing speeds! It was this giant hill that was a street! We had races and it was awesome! We played all day after school until night! We played Nerf wars and there was a lot of hedges and bushes you can hide behind. We played laser hide and seek and the person that was it had a laser that had to shine on someone to get them out! I was the last one hiding and they gave up! I was hiding in the empty recycle bin the whole time! We played card games,video games and watched movies. Those were my truest good memories of my childhood!

I can tell so many stories with just 26 letters,
and I hope that my stories keep getting better.
Rhyming and typing who knew,

ReplyDeleteI am in a local singers group that goes around our city and performs in nursing homes and other places for entertainment. Tonight is our final dress rehearsal before our first show next week! This is my first year so I’m getting really nervous, especially because I have a solo on our last song. I’ve really been working on trying to get the choreography down in time because it’s not something that comes naturally to me. I haven’t done much dancing in my life but I’ve recently started to do a lot, so I’m trying to get better at it. I really hope I can do well at our performances. I know that my practice has been helping so I just need to have faith in myself!
i am starving my mom has not brought the food yet and i am siting here waiting and all i can think about is food. I go to the pantry and find that there is nothing to eat. It seamed to tack forever but my mom brought me a in in out burger. There was also a lot french fries they were so good and sense i was not full i had a apple.
ReplyDeleteThere was a bug on the windshield of my car today. That little guy held on so tight. He didn't fly off until I hit 63 on the freeway. I felt bad that he didn't get any recognition for that so I thought I would give him some credit.
ReplyDeleteThis morning I was making crepes and I started singing Lego house by Ed Sheeran. My little sister started singing along also. Before we knew it we were singing at the top of our lungs in our terrible morning voices. My mom looked at us like we were the biggest dorks and I just smiled back :)
